Today I’m unboxing a very special gift I received from a lovely person who rocks! The Barbie Fashion Model Collection Doll BFMC Cocktail Dress. She comes with platinum blonde hair, a deep lace dress with complete Watteau train gracefully dangling from her shoulders. She is amazing and I’m glad I have her. Thank you Andrew!

I remember I saw her at a thrift store, A THRIFT STORE and didn't pick her. Back then I wasn't a serious collector who foresaw the future and knew about how missing out dolls really had an impact. Now if I ever find a doll like her in the wild, you bet I'm snatching them.
Damn right! I have been to doll shops all over the west coast and thrift stores. And have never ever seen a Silkstone in the wild ever.
Oh so lovely, you got a grail! I completely agree with you, once you see and have the quality dolls from the BFMC line, you can’t justify all the junk and problems they release now. I think she was only $75.00 or $100 when she came out.

Congrats on getting gifted this incredible doll. I was lucky enough to get her when she came out and she remains one of my favorite silkies of all time, and that's saying a lot since silkstones make up more than half of my collection. I love the attention to detail, the stark contrast of the black dress and platinum hair, her pale skin and sexy yet classy vibe. The first dozen years or so were definitely the quality years for this line and cocktail dress is right up there with the best of them!
She really is. I love a lot of Silkstones throughout and wish they had more men.
@@JeffreySteinmanReviews There have been a few notable silkstone men over the years...my favorite is Nickolai. But both Madmen, especially silver fox Roger Sterling are close seconds and they can be found for about half what they sold for originally on ebay.

I have three favorite silkies, in this order: Toujours Couture, Cocktail Dress, and Tout de Suite. These dolls have that classic 1959 Barbie feel about them. I paid over $600 for all three. They are worth every penny.

Barbie has the potential to be the best fashion doll in the market since she has the best diversity, body and face molds. But Mattel chooses to overprice her and charge lots for shitty quality and instead of make her a gorgeous face they give her that grainy textured pixelated treatment. The problem with Barbie today is not the Barbie brand it’s Mattel, since I’m sure that if the Barbie brand was under MGA’s company for example, I’m sure her playline quality would be better than Mattel’s signature gold label quality. They need to change all of their quality and pricing standards if they want the brand to stay relevant, and we all know its not because they’re short of money, it’s cause they lack effort and willingness to improve their products. Calling them out on pixels, printed-on stuff, cheap hair and stuff is the best way to push them into improvement.
That’s the thing too we always see a dip in quality when BaRbIe doesn’t have shelf competition but the second she does they scramble to up the “quality” again.
I only got into the Silkstones this past Christmas time. Thankfully, because they are so pricey, I've only felt like I've absolutely *needed* a few of them. This was one of them. I just got Ingenue, and the Check, Please! Francie is on the way. I've haven't been able to display any of them though, because every one of them comes with a wonky stand. One has a crooked saddle, so she tips over. Another is too loose because the saddle doesn't come with the right kind of base, so the doll would topple off.
With this one, the crotch on her stockings is so low that she is kind of suspended above the base. I'm also afraid the stockings would be damaged because of the saddle pressing against the seam in that area. I couldn't use one that fits around her waist either because of the way the cape is attached to the dress, either. Any suggestions?

Congratulations! I sometimes feel silly that a Barbie can makes serious life issues seem better. I mean, for all logical, adult reasons, she is just a mass-produced, inanimate piece of synthetic material. She is bad for the environment, and she has perpetuated some bad stereotypes over the years. Also, now the Silkstones are really expensive. Still... I can't help myself. It's some kind of spell, isn't it?
