@@許進曾 While true those are smaller, they are also rifle rounds, and rifle rounds are more powerful because they have a longer case to fit in more propellant and push them harder, further and faster. Barry would register those as weapons.

Yup, zombified crows, in fact. Grenade launchers is a poor weapon of choice against murder of crows, and Forest were unfortunate to meet this kind of enemy when he was still testing the grenade launcher. As reflected in-game wise, you'll miss the shots very often when fighting against crows with grenade launcher(effectively wasting ammunition); bring more appropriate weapons instead.

I went to take another look at the STARS photo and if you look closely there is a wooden stock under his arm and the breach is open from what I can tell it's an M79 launcher.
You're foolish for thinking it was a mortar. It was more than likely an HK 9 or whatever it is called. The same or close to the grenade launcher in Resident Evil 3 Nemesis.

If anyone is curious, in Marvel vs. Capcom 2, Jill uses what looks to be the original iteration of the launcher, as MvC2 was released 2 years before RE1R.

REmake did basically everything so well and a lot of times it hard to fight the bias we have there, however RE1 still has a lot of charm within itself and we have to respect it or else we'd be doing a serious disservice to the OG Resident Evil. We always appreciate your comments though, thank you!

The fact the one from RE remake and RE3 remake are made from different parts from different guns reminds me of the Stinger Machine Guns from WW2. They were made from the parts of 3 different guns and six of them were made. They got the job done but were quickly left to rust on a beach when the mission was over so they are now considered lost with only props existing of them in museums.
So the RPD allows their officers to carry explosive munitions for seemingly routine investigations, and also have no qualms in allowing their officers to use guns that do not use non-standard LEO calibers like .50E and .44 Magnum, which are overpowered for the role they're suppose to be in. They also have no enforced standardization protocols regarding duty weapons since anyone can seem to use whatever gun they want, given how Leon uses a VP70, while everyone else in the department are stuck with Beretta 92s and Browning HPs. Hell one officer was armed with Glock 19 and you have Barry here somehow allowed to use a custom handgun that shoots .40S&W, a round their department does not even use at all. Weapon qualifications in the RPD must be a nightmare to enforce since everyone has carte blanche on their loadouts. The RPD, if the outbreak didn't occur, is a major scandal waiting to happen.
If you think about it, STARS members are special forces that are allowed to use customized firearms like the famous Samurai Edge. While standard RPD officer use something in basic 9mm pistol, for Leon's case, VP70 is likely his own personal firearm, he haven't issued his service pistol from the standard due to his first day duty happen during outbreak. There is also special case for other higher ranking officer like Kevin who use .45 auto pistol.
My man, corrupt rapist and serial killer Brian Irons is the Chief of Police in Raccoon City. I don't think it's a surprise that the RPD was a scandal in waiting and poorly managed.
A lot of smaller departments allow you to carry whatever you want. My father kept his .270 Winchester in his patrol truck in addition to his 870 until they started issuing patrol carbines. This is actually period correct info because he was a regular deputy in the late 90s. He also jumped on the beretta 92 train that was in vouge at that time.
One gun i have always liked in RE is the STI Eagle 6.0, shame it never came back for 3Remake. Interesting vid as always, didn't know that it was based off a British anti riot gun considering i don't think i have seen our police use anything other than shields and batons during riots when the guns come out it is usually in response to deadly force being needed such as terror attacks.

This grenade launcher is pretty awesome, but I hope they'll be able to get the china lake grenade launcher (basically a pump shotgun that shoots grenades) in the game eventually. Wishful thinking, but that thing is really badass
That 40mm launcher from PE2 was a cool one as well, but it never shows up in games. Was based on the Manville Gas Gun, so technically it wasn't actually a grenade launcher.

@@andrehashimoto8056 i was surprised too, but we can guess the M79 is pretty much one of Capcom's fetish guns in RE series (with the Beretta 92F pistol), since it already appeared since RE2, RE Survivor, Code Veronica... maybe the presence of the M79, along with many american-made guns, has something of symbolic since Ethan is himself american, and so he get american guns to kickass Miranda and its mutated lieutenant to save his daughter. and the Duke have maybe some contacts with worlwide various gun dealers which gave him some articles , some of them are from or are near the US
I just moved to Tennessee and didn't get to watch this when it dropped but im so happy to learn about this grenade launcher. Forest Spayer was always an extreamly interesting character to me, and the arwen 37 was also an interesting weapons design to me.
In his defense, dude was basically part of (what Im sort of guessing would be) a more important SWAT unit. Anytime his teams dispatched, it’s reasonable enough to assume that you should probably bring your best weapons yk.

The British Army did a policing-role in:Northern-Ireland:like the STARS do with their call-outs. British-soldiers could get various ammo like: CS-gas,baton-rounds,smoke-rounds.breaching-rounds,etc. With a bit of imagination:The RPD might have authorised:40mm US-armed-forces,rifle-grenades to use in it & Irons himself:probably authorised it? Forest,was probably trained in:riot-control,door-breaching,etc.
When I was a kid I knew about ARWEN 37 and always thought that police riot launcher fits well for the STARS - with non lethal rounds (maybe Forest spent them all before he was pecked to death by crows). And in my headcanon all those deadly grenade rounds in the mansion were custom built by Umbrella for their own 37mm launchers.... But since RE2 looks like RPD prefers surplus M79 grenade launchers and military grade 40mm grenade rounds, so it doesnt really matter.
In this alternate universe, Raccoon City is still standing and STARS still exist. Minus Wesker who was found out and Kendo Gun Shop explains the firearms.
Had Forest found that flamethrower Barry uses on Plant 42 he might have taken out the crows and survived. His weapon of choice was actually a really good one considering some of the B.O.W.s are strong enough to survive multiple direct hits from 40mm shells before dying, so you'd want more than a 9mm handgun. It just wasn't a one size fits all weapon. Just pure dumb bad luck.
Its a shame he didnt think to switch to his beretta when the crows attacked, unless he was gonna die anyway and he just lost consciousness and the crows finished him off as hed slip out of it.
I'd love to see a review of something a bit older, but in the same vein. The M79 grenade launcher. I always had a soft spot in my heart for the old girl, and I know you would do it some justice in a video.

@@thecasualcanuck4590 all of the weapons in RE8 were surprisingly beautiful, other than the “LEMI”, but the M1911 caught me off guard with how it was definitely modded tastefully before we got ahold of it.

It’s model is outstanding (even with the chunky mount) but it’s sadly delegated to the can because of it being so underpowered due to being a “premium” item

i've never beleived the crows were what killed him hes clearly been wrekt by something else before getting to the balcony, hes also sitting if he died fighting off crows he'd be more beleivably crumpled in a corner whatever attacked him, he was bleeding out hard, found the chair and died in it, the real question is what attacked him? he left several hand prints on the wall leading to the balcony, either a hunter, cerberus, yawn would be the only candidates hunters are seemingly only unlocked when wesker does a thing, which couldn't've happened yet, yawn likely would've been modeled to have some injuries, scars perhaps if he mag dumped on that thing. so i think it was the zoggos wounded and bleeding out he goes looking for something to help, he bleeds out, gets pecked, gets found. the only thing really impacting this is how fast edward turned in the train which was a couple minutes tops. i rule out crimsons as they haven't been encountered until after you've downed them as normals, also not in the og. as for spiders, he wasn't melted, being the main thing the bugs do, grapple then spray. so his grenade launcher got him to the mansion before being finished off by blood loss
I think the common consensus is that something else expedited Forest’s untimely demise and the crows just punctuated his story. What he may have encountered prior to his fate on the balcony is always the part that’s up for contest. It’s one of the more interesting fates in RE that we may never truly know the answer to but we went with crows because at the end of the day, they had the last say in his condition once you encounter him in both versions of RE1.
It’s based off the 1980s M32 MGL. I used an M32 in the marine corps in the 2010s on a range training day. The concept is rather old, and more so became popular with SWAT and police forces for use with non lethal rounds. It fires 40mm rounds but due to the range of engagements in modern wars (Afghanistan in particular) its military use was very limited in the later 2010+ years beyond its Cold War design, where firefights would take place well beyond its 350-400m effective range. This is my real world/life training and experience. I’m also a massive RE fan I grew up in the early and mid 90s so I just wanted to add my experience. Edit: TLDR, it’s a popular police design in a post Cold War era due to its design being more useful in an urban setting and most of its rounds are now days non-lethal. Also, the 40mm Grenade was also integrated into the M203 under barrel launcher which proved lighter on our troops and more effective in the early Iraq war era.

@@andreasottohansen7338 didnt feel like explaining, translating , double checking so i wrote "not exactly" The comment "revolving cillindre like a revolver" is because the cilindre tubes (tubes that hold cartriges ) act like aaaaa.....umm... what ever holds the cartriges in a revolver cillindre? The cartriges for a 40mm have very low preassure so the tubes can be thin
Think of it as assisted double action. With a triggerpull rotating the cillindre lining up the next cartrige with the barrel while also cocking the hammer and then releasing it. It get even more muddy if i attemt to go deeper into it.

Chris and stars in re1:Everybody only came with an Samurai Edge pistol. Chris and wolfhound squad:A full blown special ops squad with automatic rifles snipers airstrike lasers etc Chris should've got this sense earlier.
Part of me was hoping for the launcher to return in the remake of RE3. Also... Pointless to say this but I am planing on including a similar launcher in my game, it's called the elemental launcher, and it shoots electric, Fire, acid, and ice rounds. Even has a lore where the electric rounds are used to power up the machines, and the acid would evaporate into a toxic cloud that could literally melt everything it touches.

Imagine if BRAVO team survived, to see all the members besides Wesker kicking ass in Resident evil series. But what I found funny is how Forest was an excellent marksmen (Omni man) so you would think he would carry a sniper rifle with the standard handgun for STARS. S.T.A.R.S. is easily one of the greatest parts of Resident Evil. There was so much care put into the characters, their weapons and equipment and for what? For half of them to be dead when you find them. And that's okay because it set the stage for the greatness of Resident Evil 1.
Honestly, a huge missed opportunity in the series is not treating the weapons like characters with their own continuing story. There would have been something poetic about Jill using the same weapons she used to escape the Spencer Mansion to Escape Raccoon City or for Chris to use a sawed off version of the Spencer shotgun on Rockford Island or for Wesker to boast he's using the same gun that killed Enrico, etc.
The grenade launcher is one the most iconic weapons in RE universe too bad they never kept up with making the weapon cooler in later series. In ps1 re3 they introduce special freeze rounds from combing certain gun powders and in code veronica the introduce green anti BOW gas rounds. They've could come up with more interesting rounds like electric or stun sonic or light rounds for blinding enemies round types if they want to hope they do in the future

makes me think that Forest should have gotten a SMG or semi auto shotgun as the alternative to his Nade Launcher.

Resident Evil has had a nice variety of grenade launchers so hopefully they give that style a go, too

@@andrehashimoto8056 i was surprised too, but we can guess the M79 is pretty much one of Capcom's fetish guns in RE series (with the Beretta 92F pistol), since it already appeared since RE2, RE Survivor, Code Veronica... maybe the presence of the M79, along with many american-made guns, has something of symbolic since Ethan is himself american, and so he get american guns to kickass Miranda and its mutated lieutenant to save his daughter. and the Duke have maybe some contacts with worlwide various gun dealers which gave him some articles , some of them are from or are near the US

I just moved to Tennessee and didn't get to watch this when it dropped but im so happy to learn about this grenade launcher. Forest Spayer was always an extreamly interesting character to me, and the arwen 37 was also an interesting weapons design to me.

I always found it weird that Forest would equip himself with a grenade launcher on an investigation.
Could've been for tear gas ( even though that's not a grenade type you find).
In his defense, dude was basically part of (what Im sort of guessing would be) a more important SWAT unit. Anytime his teams dispatched, it’s reasonable enough to assume that you should probably bring your best weapons yk.
He’s armed with a customised,ARWEN37 Grenade Launcher.
It was designed by the:Royal-Enfield Small-Arms factory as an:Anti-riot,weapon for British-soldiers in Northern-Ireland:to replace the single-shot:Federal-launchers.
The British Army did a policing-role in:Northern-Ireland:like the STARS do with their call-outs.
British-soldiers could get various ammo like: CS-gas,baton-rounds,smoke-rounds.breaching-rounds,etc.
With a bit of imagination:The RPD might have authorised:40mm US-armed-forces,rifle-grenades to use in it & Irons himself:probably authorised it?
Forest,was probably trained in:riot-control,door-breaching,etc.
When I was a kid I knew about ARWEN 37 and always thought that police riot launcher fits well for the STARS - with non lethal rounds (maybe Forest spent them all before he was pecked to death by crows). And in my headcanon all those deadly grenade rounds in the mansion were custom built by Umbrella for their own 37mm launchers.... But since RE2 looks like RPD prefers surplus M79 grenade launchers and military grade 40mm grenade rounds, so it doesnt really matter.
In this alternate universe, Raccoon City is still standing and STARS still exist. Minus Wesker who was found out and Kendo Gun Shop explains the firearms.

Had Forest found that flamethrower Barry uses on Plant 42 he might have taken out the crows and survived. His weapon of choice was actually a really good one considering some of the B.O.W.s are strong enough to survive multiple direct hits from 40mm shells before dying, so you'd want more than a 9mm handgun. It just wasn't a one size fits all weapon. Just pure dumb bad luck.
Its a shame he didnt think to switch to his beretta when the crows attacked, unless he was gonna die anyway and he just lost consciousness and the crows finished him off as hed slip out of it.

@@thecasualcanuck4590 all of the weapons in RE8 were surprisingly beautiful, other than the “LEMI”, but the M1911 caught me off guard with how it was definitely modded tastefully before we got ahold of it.
@@ZephyrusBlue the .1911 is my favorite side arm of all time, and they really did it justice. And the pump action was really ornate in the game too.

The hardest pill to swallow was with the M9/the Samurai Edge. It’s model is outstanding (even with the chunky mount) but it’s sadly delegated to the can because of it being so underpowered due to being a “premium” item

i've never beleived the crows were what killed him
hes clearly been wrekt by something else before getting to the balcony, hes also sitting if he died fighting off crows he'd be more beleivably crumpled in a corner
whatever attacked him, he was bleeding out hard, found the chair and died in it, the real question is
what attacked him? he left several hand prints on the wall leading to the balcony, either a hunter, cerberus, yawn would be the only candidates
hunters are seemingly only unlocked when wesker does a thing, which couldn't've happened yet, yawn likely would've been modeled to have some injuries, scars perhaps if he mag dumped on that thing. so i think it was the zoggos
wounded and bleeding out he goes looking for something to help, he bleeds out, gets pecked, gets found.
the only thing really impacting this is how fast edward turned in the train which was a couple minutes tops.
i rule out crimsons as they haven't been encountered until after you've downed them as normals, also not in the og. as for spiders, he wasn't melted, being the main thing the bugs do, grapple then spray. so his grenade launcher got him to the mansion before being finished off by blood loss
I think the common consensus is that something else expedited Forest’s untimely demise and the crows just punctuated his story. What he may have encountered prior to his fate on the balcony is always the part that’s up for contest. It’s one of the more interesting fates in RE that we may never truly know the answer to but we went with crows because at the end of the day, they had the last say in his condition once you encounter him in both versions of RE1.
@@KendoGunShop I’d say a strong indicator of that is how like half of his vest had been torn off.
It’s based off the 1980s M32 MGL. I used an M32 in the marine corps in the 2010s on a range training day. The concept is rather old, and more so became popular with SWAT and police forces for use with non lethal rounds. It fires 40mm rounds but due to the range of engagements in modern wars (Afghanistan in particular) its military use was very limited in the later 2010+ years beyond its Cold War design, where firefights would take place well beyond its 350-400m effective range. This is my real world/life training and experience. I’m also a massive RE fan I grew up in the early and mid 90s so I just wanted to add my experience.
Edit: TLDR, it’s a popular police design in a post Cold War era due to its design being more useful in an urban setting and most of its rounds are now days non-lethal. Also, the 40mm Grenade was also integrated into the M203 under barrel launcher which proved lighter on our troops and more effective in the early Iraq war era.

@@andreasottohansen7338 didnt feel like explaining, translating , double checking so i wrote "not exactly" The comment "revolving cillindre like a revolver" is because the cilindre tubes (tubes that hold cartriges ) act like aaaaa.....umm... what ever holds the cartriges in a revolver cillindre? The cartriges for a 40mm have very low preassure so the tubes can be thin
Think of it as assisted double action. With a triggerpull rotating the cillindre lining up the next cartrige with the barrel while also cocking the hammer and then releasing it. It get even more muddy if i attemt to go deeper into it.

Part of me was hoping for the launcher to return in the remake of RE3.
Also... Pointless to say this but I am planing on including a similar launcher in my game, it's called the elemental launcher, and it shoots electric, Fire, acid, and ice rounds. Even has a lore where the electric rounds are used to power up the machines, and the acid would evaporate into a toxic cloud that could literally melt everything it touches.

Imagine if BRAVO team survived, to see all the members besides Wesker kicking ass in Resident evil series. But what I found funny is how Forest was an excellent marksmen (Omni man) so you would think he would carry a sniper rifle with the standard handgun for STARS. But my man brought a a grenade launcher wtf😭😂 as a kid, I never understood why he would carry the GL back then but your theory or explanation makes sense 4:07

S.T.A.R.S. is easily one of the greatest parts of Resident Evil. There was so much care put into the characters, their weapons and equipment and for what? For half of them to be dead when you find them. And that's okay because it set the stage for the greatness of Resident Evil 1.

Honestly, a huge missed opportunity in the series is not treating the weapons like characters with their own continuing story. There would have been something poetic about Jill using the same weapons she used to escape the Spencer Mansion to Escape Raccoon City or for Chris to use a sawed off version of the Spencer shotgun on Rockford Island or for Wesker to boast he's using the same gun that killed Enrico, etc.

The grenade launcher is one the most iconic weapons in RE universe too bad they never kept up with making the weapon cooler in later series. In ps1 re3 they introduce special freeze rounds from combing certain gun powders and in code veronica the introduce green anti BOW gas rounds. They've could come up with more interesting rounds like electric or stun sonic or light rounds for blinding enemies round types if they want to hope they do in the future
