    I appreciate videos like this that aren't actually reviews, but still tell me the majority of what I need to know about the machine. I've got 2 Vorons now, and a resin printer, so I'm not really in the market for a new machine, but I still find your videos entertaining and informative. I almost didn't watch this video, but I'm glad I did. I think I have a new default recommendation for a cheap printer for other people, and I'm really impressed at the state of the industry right now.

      Do not get this printer do not get this printer. I've had their Neptune three and I don't know what happened. I'm pretty sure they sold the company off. This is a completely different machine is absolutely horrible like absolutely horrible. I can't even get the thing to work and I used to print on Neptune three for over half a year I made hundreds of dollars.

    As you said armbian comes with limited wifi drivers preinstalled, but if you have to install networkmanager or something else to connect to wifi anyway, you could also take the step to install the wifi drivers for your chipset. Granted, I understand in the form of a quick tutorial that would make it quite a bit longer, but it could very well be an option.

    • @MandicReally
      @MandicReally  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I was having trouble finding specific drivers for the ones I had, so providing a tutorial for that would make it way more complicated when I myself was having trouble finding them. If I did that it is a 100% certainty I’d have comment after comment of “I bought this $10 one on Amazon that doesn’t say what chipset it uses, which driver do I need? Do the work for me!” I have to think about the long term support that’s gonna continue to happen with these videos unfortunately. A good thought on a case by case basis though.

    • @qlum
      @qlum ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That is a good point to make, still a good remark that there are other options for those that know what they are.
      I will also add from personal experience that while most devices can be made to work, some need some pretty nasty workarounds.
      I really wouldn't want to be the one handling these issues in the comment section.

    Baby's first Klipper is a great explanation. I bought my son a 3 Pro for Xmas and he has been doing more and more by himself. Being 9 he is more interested in just finding cool models to slice and print. I am building my Voron 2.4R2 right now and he is getting more interested in the firmware and other parts of the build and Klipper. Something like the 4 Pro would be what seems like a nice upgrade but keep him familiar with everything.

    Thanks for this video. The WiFi dongle installation hack was particularly appreciated. I probably could have figured it out myself in an afternoon but it's great that you showed us how to do it.
    I hope Elegoo makes a 300 mm cube print volume version with Klipper, but adds an accelerometer so it can do input shaper calibration to maximize print speed and quality for each customer installation instead of some generic input shaper profile, and with WiFi because almost nobody uses a wired LAN connection in 2023. It'd be great if there was an optical filament run out sensor on the print head as well instead of that dangly bit next to the reel.

    • @B1GTOBACC0
      @B1GTOBACC0 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I wish these manufacturers would add the accelerometers to the hardware itself, instead of it being an additional expense. I wouldn't describe these printers as "crude klipper implementations," but I think these first high-speed cheapies are clearly "We were making this printer already, and added Klipper."
      Accelerometers are cheap and easily available, and it would be nice to get have "calibrate input shaping" as a built-in option. I also think getting the accelerometer closer to the nozzle (instead of "somewhere on the X-carriage") could make input shaping more precise.

    • @Liberty4Ever
      @Liberty4Ever ปีที่แล้ว

      @@B1GTOBACC0 - I agree on all points. We're seeing some early commercial Klipper installations. Bambu put the accelerator on the print head and Creality copied them, which can do good input shaping on a core XY machine. Klipper on a lower priced bed slinger is a different proposition. The manufacturer is less likely to include an accelerometer, and a bed slinger needs an accelerometer on the extruder for X axis calibration and another accelerometer on the bed for Y axis calibration.

    Excellent preview of the printer. I ended up buying the 4 Pro. It's been great. I'm wondering if you could point to a tutorial on how setup the camera. Every one I found ends up with the webcam not working. Like the mjpg streamer is not running. I see that you have a different web interface setup too. Completely new to klipper and that whole armbian printer environment, but not completely new to pi-based systems. Just not having any success. Thanks again for the preview. It was very enlightening.

    I finally got my Neptune 4 Pro in and I've been loving the speed. I have an Ender 5+ that I run octoprint on along with a pi camera, so I'm not a stranger to the web interface. I have the Neptune connected via LAN cable, but I'm having all kinds of issues getting my Logitech 920 to show up in the web interface. It is showing up via the "lsusb" command, but not on the gui. Were you able to just plug and play, or did you have to mess with some configuration files? If you did have to make adjustments, could you point me in the right direction? I know this is an older video, but out of all the reviews out there, this has been the most informative for me.

      @@MiaMia-zw5wu No, I didn't. From what I was able to find out, there was an update pushed out that broke the plug -n-play of webcams. Support from Elegoo said, "sorry, we can't assist you because it wasn't designed to use webcams". So in between this video and the official release, updates were made that make go boom.

    Thank you for the detailed look at this machine, especially the print head assembly and that hilarious blower fan bar.
    I actually don't mind the way they have things set up here.
    I run my machines with no internet. I have a second wireless router for my printers. When I need to send a print over to my machines, I switch to my printer wi-fi network and get them running. In the case of this Neptune, I'd just run an ethernet cable to the 3D Printer router, since it's right next to my printers anyways.
    I've always been hesitant about letting my printers get onto the internet, but I think this is the best way to do it. The only thing I'm "missing out on" are cloud functionality and automatic firmware updates, but the improvements in security are worth it to me.
    That said, it would be better for them to include a USB dongle pre-installed on the "pro" version to help differentiate it from the standard Neptune 4.

    • @Nevio_024
      @Nevio_024 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agree, this would make sense for Elegoo. Ordering the dongles in a giant batch is definitly not expensive. Only configuration might change time, bit I think this can really be reduced too

    I'm thinking a WIFI extender with an RJ45 ethernet input would work to provide WIFI to the printer... acts just as though it's plugged into the network, but pulls wirelessly from your WAP. Those run around $15 on Amazon. Am I missing something in that regard?

      Sadly no (I tried). Not saying it would be very hard to modify and mount, but it’s definitely not a direct swap. I wish it were. Some bolt holes line up, some don’t. I don’t have time at the moment to dig deeper but I may try and revisit it.

      Try putting it on a Windows PC and test it there, then retry on the machine. I cannot confirm this is a fix but some others have said it worked for them. I have 3 of them here and they all work, so I'm sorry this seems to be happening to a few folks, they must have changed something.

    hi, still waiting to buy my first 3d printer, I look at reviews and I can say the market now has a variety of valid products, I know I can be OT but is it worth to spend a little more to buy the Neptune 4 plus that will come with wifi? Surely it has other little improvements over the neptune 4 pro (ceramic element in the nozzle? all other specs seems not so different), all this new neptune 4 3d printers differs from the printable area so a straight comparison cannot be done but I ask for an advice if the preorder of 322€ for the Neptune 4 Plus you consider a good deal. thank you.

    I haven't tried this yet. But the device having an random ip without being on the network is misleading. This device may have its own static address assigned, which means you will need to make sure your pc is on the same subnet (Google will be your friend here..) . The rest of the access steps will be accurate then.
    Alternately, use telnet and find its baud rate and com port. Use putty to access using this method is easier and more consistent in instructions.
