I love hearing the NIU Alma Mater! Full disclosure, the music of the Alma Mater was composed by my father, Wilbur Smith. During his time at NIU, Wilbur spent several years conducting the NIU Marching Band. The lyrics were written by Wilbur and NIU English Professor Orville Baker.
Many thanks to your father, sir. Returned to the campus as an instructor after teaching remote last year and hearing the bells play the NIU Alma Mater at midday makes one feel all is right with the world.
