I love how Volvo put out a commercial soon after Jaguar, showcasing parenthood and the importance of working brakes. That's how a serious car business should be run.
That's how it ought to be. You are a company that is well known for selling a particular product. You show your product being utilized by everyday people and positively impacting their lives-- in this case, Volvo showing parents driving one of their cars and benefiting from the car's safety features. *That's how you sell a product, right there.*
The Chinese Geely Holdings Group has owned Volvo for more than a decade now. Recently, to cut costs, they even moved some production outside of China. I wouldn't put much faith in their brakes anymore. It's just a brand image. Mind, I'm not defending Jaguar. They're owned by Tata Motors...
Fun fact: There actually was a car model Concord, didn't sell too well, American Motors that made it went out of business, bought up by Chrysler just to acquire the Jeep division.
This ad is like a skit that would have been on Kids in the Hall 30 years ago to mock pretentious advertising. I can imagine Scott Thompson prancing around in these outfits.

Looks like the Concord character designers got a new job turning people off of car brands now. Good for them. They're doing good work by helping people to save money by not buying their products.
They could do more work on the hair physics and seems not to have rendered completely on most characters. But in all seriousness, as someone who has 20 years in ad agency’s, I have a mix of shock and admiration. Admiration in that someone actually sold this concept , but mostly shock that the client actually bought into it.
I think the character with the chest and abs windows is to emphasis that she is bulletproof / plasmaenergy-proof or whatever shooty-shoots they will use. It's a clever way to design a Hulk-style character without resorting to a muscular / giant trope. Afterall, it's the skin that is imprenetable, not the muscles. So by showing skin in the most vulnerable areas it's making sure her opponents know that she indeed does not need no armor. It's actually very imposing, and quite badass, if you think about it.
Oh, and the character in the center front, the one with a small white handbag... I'd imagine she is the sniper-type character. She would walk nonchalantly onto the roof of a building, open the tiny little handbag and reveal an intricately collapsible sniper riffle. She sets it up real quick, assume prone position, ready to go. The 90° cut on her hair would then reveal somekind of high-tech eye-scope device (a la Dragon Ball's scouter) to help her to see in the dark / superzoom / AR stuffs.
My first job was as a QC analyst in the Ford plant in the Philippines in 2005 when they still own the brand. It was fairly popular to the elite and A-list actors here back then. I am saddened to hear they transitioned into a clothing brand. 😢
I feel like this is trying to send some sort of message across. The black and red for for destruction, the yellow orange for the sun god. The background sort of like another dimension. The hammer definitely plays into the same theme as well. Same with the white paint. Being someone that has done design for 10+ years, this is not for the general audience. I wonder who this ad is for. There's some sort of messaging in this for some very specific people.
