The deals are out there Randy but you gotta remember you have access to most of them with your Dealers License that the majority of us don't have. After a Dealership buys these Hoopties and put in a few hundred dollars, they mark up the price to make a profit which is understandable. But if the average citizen could walk into IAA or Copart, things would be different. A dealer would sell that Skylark at a buy here pay here place for $4500

I hear ya on how much of a blessing it is to have a car in general. Not a fancy one, just one that gets you there faster than walking. Reminds me of my Dad's 1977 Ford Fairmont. It was only $600 but it drove decent and it did have AC. Our house didn't have AC but the car did so car rides to the store in the summer were great.
I got my ex wife a Skylark one time and she loved it. It would run like crazy and it was fun to drive. We had to rent a car one time to go from Pinetop, AZ to Houston and it was a Skylark and she told me to sit in the passenger seat and relax because we were heading because my Mom was having heart surgery and they want the family there just in case. I don't know what route she took but we left Globe, AZ around 430pm and was outside of Houston by 9am the next day. It is normal 20 hour trip.
I had a low mile (64K) Achieva 2dr, also base model, with the Quad and 5-speed manual from ‘07-‘11. Was $1900 back then. Wasn’t the most fun car, but was unique. Those FWD GM did have some cold A/C’s when they worked. No tint in FL that thing still had freezing A/C

The cruise control probably works, but you can briefly see that you had the slider in the off position on the blinker lever. That’s probably what was wrong on the Monte Carlo too. I had the same setup on my 2001 Blazer
Bang on the dash under glove box some times it kicks the motor blower on! It could be stuffed with dirt and debris I’m sure cabin air filters never been changed either

My first car was an 86' Grand AM with the half vinyl roof and a Quad 4. So many of these 80's and 90's cars are completely disappearing as time goes on.
I drove cars with no exhaust, others with no brakes (to a single destination), and one with a blown radiator (for six months). This is like a high-end CADDY compared to the ones I was driving...in the rust belt. Heard a noise once in a Nova...the wheel-well had rusted out and fell onto the wheel. I also discovered that the bumper jack and tire iron were gone.
You're absolutely correct; there are MANY great deals out there right now. Just found a 2006 Mercedes E wagon at my local copart for 650 bucks (donation, clean title)
I am thoroughly enjoying your cheap hoopty series you’re currently doing. I am getting a kick out of today’s car. The 1995 Buick skylark. An unloved and now generally unwanted car that is reasonably comfortable and quiet and cheap. Blus it’s got some outrageous swoopy styling that Buick historically occasionally brings forth amongst their usual old guy stodgy offerings.
I totally understand where you’re coming from Randy. I live in the Bay Area and my wife and I picked up our current daily driver 2001 Mercedes ml320 for $750. It wasn’t running. Turns out that the car needed a new key. $60 later the car started up. It ran rough and needed some work as the vehicle had sat for some time.. considering that our budget was 4K for a used car, I think we made out great even after putting some money into it

Would I want to drive that Geo Metro? HELL YES!! i love those things! I would even go as far as restoring it as much as possible. new paint, fix dents, etc....make it a show room car...but that's just me because I have a soft spot for those Geo Metros (Didn't care for them once they became Chevy Metro though)...I like pretty much all the Geo branded cars, especially the Tracker and the Metro

People with very limited funds however need to take the time and do research and find out what the fatal flaws are for each model and fix them quickly if not already done. If you’re not car savvy, then get car savvy friends or family to help. Don’t know if it’s still holds true but Saturns can be the best bang for your buck
I had the Oldsmobile Version call the achieve. The things I love about that car. Nice air conditioning and how quiet it was inside that car. But unfortunately it had a bad transmission. But I was able to return it.
I had a 1993 Buick Skylark that I bought used that was the best car I ever had it was red just like this one and when I sold it it had 195K on it and she still ran like new

The cars that Randy gets are pretty unique and unforgettable... Finding a car at these prices is easier if you have a dealer's license. If I buy through Autobidmaster for Copart for a 15-dollar bid, it costs 673 dollars with the fees, which is ridiculous for the public. I wish the public could have access to more options.

Had a 94 Skylark 2 door once upon a time. Black interior identical to this one, though mine had power windows and a somewhat peppy V6. Drove it cross country. Developed electrical issues in it's latter days, but still overall a good car.
If you ever come across one for a good price you should get a 90's GM dustbuster van Chevy Oldsmobile or Pontiac version those were some funky looking vans
What a fleet! The first generation Skylark has a very strange looking front end. Not sure who green lighted that. I'd still drive it though! That random flowering plant that popped up in your yard, I bet the seed for that came out of one of the cars.
With all the batteries you go through, you should really contact interstate and tell them you're interested in racking. Some blem batteries. There's nothing wrong with them other than there's blemishes either in the case or whatever, but they're fully charged batteries at half the price and racking. Like I said what they do is set you up with whatever batteries you think you will use. You know maybe half side post and half top post or whatever and all you have to do is when you pull a battery out of a car leave. It guy comes around every couple weeks. She's with you have used and they bill you for it and replace what you used. But for half the price of what you're probably spending if not more, I would definitely hope you look into it

I 100percent wouldn't have to be desperate to drive this buick skylark because there's absolutely nothing wrong with it infact it's a totally decent car that I'd be happy and very comfortable in to drive it everywhere I needed and wanted to go
Not to long ago I bought a cheap 96 grand am 4 door with the 2.4L dohc and a auto trans I made a killing on the sale of the car but for 427.00 dollars and a few bucks to fix brakes and the power windows it was a perfect car,I drove that car for a year rust free and sold it to a friend and he drove it for a few years as well!

Hey Randy I used to work for Hertz Rent-a-Car back in the 90s when those cars were brand new? And I remember driving one when it was brand new and I couldn't believe how much power it had I thought it was a V6 and I opened up the hood and it was that quad 4 4 cylinder those things actually get going down the road quite Pepe? I was surprised by the power of that little four-cylinder they get down the road good maybe you can replace the fan from one in a junkyard and get that AC working again? I think it would be a good car to fix up it's very clean yet for a 95 just that air conditioning problem I'm sure you'll figure it out you're good for that.
Maybe you can turn the rotors. Not a bad old car at all. I always liked the look of these and the Olds Achieva, which was pretty well the same car with a less pointy front end.

He is also paying for many of these old hoopties to be transported to him, which you have to include in the cost. So, an additional $1000 - $1800.

I sold Oldsmobile Achievas when this Buick was offered during the same model year span. The Buick has a grille reminiscent of the early 1950s.
I actually prefer the achieva over the Skylark

I was surprised by the power of that little four-cylinder they get down the road good maybe you can replace the fan from one in a junkyard and get that AC working again? I think it would be a good car to fix up it's very clean yet for a 95 just that air conditioning problem I'm sure you'll figure it out you're good for that.
Had a Oldsmobile achieve loved it Quad ohc had a few inherent issues but performance wise it was a surprisingly capable PowerPlant very eager .
Maybe you can turn the rotors. Not a bad old car at all. I always liked the look of these and the Olds Achieva, which was pretty well the same car with a less pointy front end.
