That little palette is so much like the ones you see historical artists holding in self-portraits at the easel- they really didn't use nearly as much paint or as many colors as artists do today! On that subject, we thought it was incredibly interesting to see what you did with a slimmer selection of colors! We can kind of understand why you left those panels pristine and untouched for a while- they were so pretty- but they were born to have paint on them, so we're glad to see they fulfilled their reason for existing! Thanks for another wonderful video!
My 16-month year old is struggling through a cold right now. Her vocabulary is pretty limited, but when she saw your cat she got *so* excited. I wish you could have heard all her congested "meowing".
The blue car is my favorite, it’s so cute! I love that physical reaction I get when I sit down to create art. My cheeks get warm, as if I’ve had a glass of wine, but it’s just excitement of making things.
Wonderful episode. My dad had real life versions of the turquoise '57 Chevy AND the red '63 split-window Corvette. I chilled beneath warm blankets on a cold day, during my 'check-in'/rest time and enjoyed this video. Great message too....quit waiting, and go where your curious desire guides you. Thank you.
I was soo uninspired to get creative and even thought I had lost the skill. But after this video, I now have all the energy to paint and get into the creative process instead of blaming on anything. Thankyou soooo much to make me believe in myself!!!!!!! Your videos are extraordinary....
HI jess, I draw everyday. I listen to music of all kinds. The big difference is You and listing to you. I love watching you. I have learned to love art again. You are my art master. I had cancer surgery October 14. I feel God has given me new life.
All three paintings are amazing I love oldies. When I draw I go into another dimention. 4 hours don't feel like four houers. What I really really miss is engraving (my tool brooke and I can't afford new one jet). To set up the working place for engraving and choosing the project I will do is already sothing. Music is always a go to and I really love to use my cd's, go to the reck and surch for the right cd for this very moment and feeling. Yes, I am old 😂. Love it.
Really beautiful video jess, love the story throughout the whole thing and how getting started can be intimidating but once you just START, magical things can happen. Love the oil paintings and glad you were able to paint your fun little cars! :)
YOU JUST MADE ME STOP SCROLLING FOR REFERENCES ONLINE AND GET RIGHT INTO SKETCHING FROM MY SURROUNDINGS!! Thank you so much Jess! You are my biggest motivator and inspiration when it comes to creativity and i love you for that! ❤✨
I know you get a lot of adulation because you are such a good artist and I am so grateful that you don't skip the challenges that you encounter while making art, it lets me know as a beginner that there are no short cuts but the long way is still fun and fruitful. Thanks for another great video.
You are so inspiring. I got all the answers for questions in my mind. I was wondering about how to start, You are motivating me. Thank you jess. Love you so much.
Jess, I've been an artist since I was a little girl. I'd been in a funk and not able to create for almost 2 years, however it came back to me in the last few weeks and I've been creating non stop. It's been the biggest weight off my shoulders and relief to have my passion back in my life. I just watched this video while working on a piece and it moved me to tears. Thank you.
Jess, that is the best thing that you could have ever said, and done in order to get things done in life you have to start somewhere. We have creativity all around us and with in us we just have to be still long enough to let it come through. Thanks for the video. Hopefully it opened up a lot of creativity. In some of us. Artists That are having blocks and don’t know where to start thanks again for the eye-opener as always happy painting❤❤❤❤❤
As I started to be creativ again with drawing and painting lets say 3 weeks ago, it's so inspiring to watch your videos. When I heard you say "I have to get warm up" I felt so understood. You don't know me but it simply is my situation. I have to warm up. It will take time bc I didn't draw or paint for more than 25 years. I'v lost the view for the dark and the light and I have to train it anew. In the meantime I will watch your videos, have fun with your art and your creative process. Thanks to let me be a part of it. Well my fav color combo? I love pink/raspberry, turquoise and a warm deep yellow, like sunflowers. This are the bright ones. The dark ones are blackberry/a blue wine-red, teal and honey. But I never tryed them in paintings. That gives me the idea for my first aquarelle drawing with my new ordered colors. Thanks!
i was literally driving through my hometown & the orange trees are in season so i really want to do a trio of orange trees! took a couple quick reference shots out the window & this is definitely motivating me to sketch them out & actually use the inspiration!
I really like how your filmmaking and storytelling is evolving! These videos are pieces of art of themselves and it's amazing to watch. And experience the journey with you. I was on TH-cam to search "how to get better at ...." But you reminded me that the answer is to just do it. Start. Use the supply. Practice. Make mistakes. Have fun. Get in the zone. Relax. ❤️
I love that you shined a light on this topic. I feel like it’s such a common thing that a lot of artist deal with. Especially when it comes to having art block & have not painted for awhile. Also, I know you mention your cameras & editing programs…but could maybe talk about the tools you use when creating your videos? (Like tripods, the tools that hold your phone as you record, etc.)
omg, i’ve had that exact same red car for like 10+ years. i got it as a gift when i was a kid and ever since then its been in clear sight waiting for that strike of inspiration 😭 also, on a side note. to avoid the sketch being visible i like to put a light layer of dry brushed white paint (without putting a protective layer for the pencil, so yes, it smudges a little) the light layer kinda acts as a eraser make the lines less visible and takes care of all the smudging when it dries :)))
I'm someone who really waits till I have the right time to draw all the images and quotes I screenshot and save for later. I think your a fantastic artist and you have a great voice and inspirational story
I can relate to your friend. Painting gets hard because it's always hard for me to break my procrastination, get my materials ready and start. But once I'm in my zone and no one disturbs me, I'm thriving..... I currently live with my family and tbh it gets hard to paint but after everyone sleeps, I feel like I am the king and no one can stop me. I did love your friend talking. Can we have it more? Love you Jess, also a big hug to alexus ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you for another video focussing on pushing yourself to do what you want to and overcoming all the mental and emotional hurdles along the way...great job 👏
This must have taken a lot of time, i can barely sit for 13 minutes without getting distracted and you actually inspired me to at least sit and paint for 30 minutes, i know it's not a lot but it's much more improved. Thank you so much for being a model and inspiring many. I really love you, i think we all do.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Love those little cars. And loved that yellow "tug boat" that passed by your window.....your painting are so cute!! I think the blue one is my favorite, tho the red one has "speed streaks". 😊
I love these types of videos Jess! Maybe next time do the water outside you're studio. That would be fun to paint. I also love when you have you're furry friend with you!
I love all three!! But you painted my dream car the 63 Corvette 😍😍😍. You made them so dreamy that it’s hard to pick a favorite. Once again, thank you for taking us on this journey of creating art and enjoying it. 🤗♥️😍😍😍
My first car was a bright yellow 2 seater. I don't know what possessed my dad to let me have it. I am in my 50s and still remember having so much fun in that car with up to 5 people. Yellow is one of my most favorite colors, second only to brown.
They say a painting is not done until it is looked at by another person. You've shared them here (and we've loved it), so yeah, those little paintings ARE done. 😄
Lately with art shows, commissions, TH-cam videos. I have painted a lot but hit that overwhelm of set up but also being in the right headspace. I’ve accepted I’m just tired and taken 4 days off with the weekend planned to just get this digital commission off to a good start (the sketch is begun but decided to go fully digitally and thankfully client agreed it) which will allow for more changes if needed. Then film the sketchbook tour Monday for Tuesday seeing as that doesn’t need new art created. Usually though painting and art doesn’t feel like a chore and therefore get a lot done out of passion. It’s just this time of year is cold and busy. I have so many canvas sketches on and lined up but haven’t begun to paint yet . Loved that section with the friend and having a physical oil painting of their dog to look back over . Right back to the video to see how your sketches come along 😅😊
@@artofjesskarp loved the sketches; must be so nerve racking to paint over them. The yellow car was my favourite out of those :) 😁 something a bit different subject matter to what you’ve shared before.
Hi Jess! I just love your video style 💕 It's creative, fun, and inspirational. I love the classic car trio! Classic cars are so beautiful and they have so many attributes for an artist to get excited about. ♥️💛💙
Jess, your storytelling is the thing I love about your channel…the art is always fantastic, you arrived on YT practically fully formed in that respect, but your videos have been on a journey and I love that. ❤

Funnily, even though the last couple of weeks I've found myself getting annoyed with the pencil and I've started straight in with a pen, I still need that thing of picking up the pencil and getting out the lead to click into art mode 🤷♀ Rituals I guess.

4:09 minutes in, the thing is that you have to interact with your subject, play with it or just stare at a blank page. But i understand what is meant when that happens
You inspire me to draw ^_^ Every time I come to see a new video when I'm stuck - I get power to continue ^_^ Thank you! And I would kill to have an opportunity to drive that yellow monster
What's your favorite color combo?❤💛💙
Blue💙and green💚/Blue💙and Purple💜, they are so pretty together
Ooooh there are so many good ones, but I have to go with seafoam and coral! If I added a third colour it would be like Pantone's Citrus :)
Sage green, warm gold and red
💛💖💚
Currently it's teal and yellow ochre.
