You have the patients of a master craftsman . I think you could be a heart or brain surgeon! Where did you get tĥe crystal ? I would have the talons touching the crystal . Thats just my preference . Thank you for your time and patience .
Thank you! Actually I'm a structural engineer during working hours... that might have something to do with it. The client sent me the crystal so I'm not sure if he bought it local or online... Glad you enjoyed the design!
Great job. I carve walking sticks just for fun. The rest of the time, i carve cartitatures. But for 40 years, i built custom homes. Get used to using bronze wool instead of steel wool. Steel wool leaves little pieces of itself in the wood it can rust and make finishs change their color. It doesn't happen every time, but when it does, its painfull have to strip and refinish. Cost about the same, maybe a bit more, but it's worth changing,
nice, I'll look into it. Yes, I do vacuum up all the little steel wool parts well before applying finish for just that reason... but if I can avoid it completely, why not!
All very good but....I've been whittling and making sticks or staffs for a few years now.... I have only ever used pen knives sand paper and varnish polish wax and a burner pen. To use all the tools and saws and such like is all fine but using the bare essentials makes it more rustic and pleasurable.
I understand your point and I've done some simpler sticks. But the client requested the design and I was happy to be able to complete his vision. I think it turned out very nice!
You are a freakin bad ass! Dude your hands are a gift to this abrasive world! I share your passion and am awed by your knowledge! May i ask how you came to this work and were you passed down the tools? Teachings? Did u go to school? What does something like this cost? Where are you from? And how old are you? Youre skills look like one who has had lots of practice! I love it, thank you!
Thank you very much! I’ll try and answer as best I can… I’m a structural engineer by training and that’s my day job, I try and do carving as a hobby on my free time. I took a short carving course about 20 years ago and have been teaching myself as I go. Some tools were passed down through family but mostly bought them as I needed them (and could afford them). I learn from each project and still have a lot to learn but it’s a great journey and the woodworking community is great at sharing knowledge. Thanks for watching and your kind words!
A very nice job but I don't understand why you would tip it with a cheap rubber tip. You can buy brass ones in various sizes that have a rubber end for non skid. Keep it class right down to the tip.
I disagree, there is a Celtic Weave along the middle of the shaft... but either way we call it, I think it still turned out great and the client was very happy with it! Thanks for watching
I would love to have a staff like this, but made from 9 different types of wood in it. Nice job.
9 different species of wood will certainly complicate matters!! Glad you like it, thanks for watching
I am astonished; it is magnificent! Thank you,l Sir!
Thanks for watching! Glad for watching
What a beautiful staff you make it look so easy . Looking forward to your next project
Thank you! Glad it seems “easy”… this one took a lot of patience to get all the details!
This is incredible work!!! I look forward to holding this in my hands this week!!!
Glad you like it! It was a fun project! Thanks
WOW!!
An extraordinary piece. It is beautiful, I love this!
Good to hear from you! Thank you, it was a busy stick with a lot of details but it came out nicely!

Impressive work! It's interesting to see the evolution of your stick-making.
Thank you! Hopefully it's interesting in a good way!!
Nice staff 👏 Really like your drill press cradle, clever!
Thank you! Had to find a way to keep the round sticks cantered below the drill bit! It works well.
Meant to say you must satisfied that’s a nice piece
@@patricktongs9766 yes! This one turned out very well. Lots of work, but it was worth it!

Absolutely brilliant 👍
Thanks! This was a busy stick but it came out really nice
I make everyday sticks. I don't have the patience nor the skill to make such a beautiful stick😄@@JasonHedrich
@@geoff2212 glad you make sticks! Luckily there's a need for all types of sticks. Although my back felt this carving!!
Yes, I bet it did. I have done a bit of carving but stick to animal heads. Making hiking staffs are my favorite sticks.@@JasonHedrich
Dang - well done!!!!!
thank you!

Bravo très beau résultat
merci, c'est apprecier!
It would be interesting to know where to find Red Oak staffs because the box stores don't often carry quality!
In Montreal we can get red oak in our local big box stores. Easy enough to find here. Must be a local supply chain availability
Very nice
Thank you very much

Gandalf cane🥇
@@carloparacelso6119 it did remind me a bit of a wizards staff. I liked the symmetry of the design!
What kind of wood you use sire?
@@mavaningena4570 this was red oak!
would you mind sharing your beeswax/oil/tripoli ratio?
I would but I bought this mix from a woodturner while I was visiting NYC so I'm not sure of the ratio... but it works great!
what is holding in the ball?
The crystal is held in with epoxy! Thanks for watching

I understand your point but the tips are readily available and easy to find, so replacement is quick and easy for anyone needing to get a new one.
Hey brother amazing staff love the designs great work!! Recently found a wood staff I am looking for an engineer to work on it!! Let me know.
Salute
happy to hear it! Glad you liked it. You can write to me at jhedrich73@gmail.com and we can discuss the project

Its not a celtic weave, its just a weave pattern!.
I disagree, there is a Celtic Weave along the middle of the shaft... but either way we call it, I think it still turned out great and the client was very happy with it! Thanks for watching
