Vivian Gussin Paley talks about the importance of imagination and play in children's development, as well as offering a suggestion for the most important act you can make as a teacher.
Mrs. Paley was my kindergarten teacher in 1965 at Cherry Lane School, Kings Point, NY. She continues to be my favorite teacher and one of the most inspirational person I have ever known.
I love you Mrs. Paley!

I had the great privilege of seeing Vivian Gussin Paley teach, and she paid the kind of attention to children that she asks of us all in her video. She practiced, beautifully, what she preached, and she wrote brilliantly and simply about that work as well.
I'm so glad this is here, for you and for me to read.
Mrs. Paley was my daughter's kindergarten teacher in the late 1990's. (in Chicago) She is not only my favorite teacher she had but one of her favorite teachers too. I truly believe that Mrs. Paley is one of the driving forces in my daughter who just graduated from grad school.
Such a hero of mine. Brilliant to see her speak with such passion about what she believes in. Every trainee teacher should watch it before they start their course.
Amazing lady! Such a great explanation and defence of play in our early years!
Wise words indeed. Listen, encourage, love.
One the Boston Listens' blog, teachers are writing about storytelling and story acting in their classrooms. At the Child Care Collection, we have DVDs about Paley's work (The Boy Who Could Tell Stories), along with an online video catalog featuring Paley and other teachers and storytellers.
This was great.
Unschooling!
Even if you are unschooling this ladies words I hope would ring loud in your mind and heart. She cared so deeply about children and obviously gave so many a voice to be heard.
