Botan with the actual good advice: you can always wait for something new to come out, but you should just buy it now if you want/need it now.

In the tech world there’s always something better around the corner. If u want something or need it just buy it within your means.
She didn't need to mention something new coming out in October tho. The only thing coming in October is Intel 14th gen CPUs but it's just a Raptor Lake refresh. Especially the top end 14900k is just a rebadged 13900k, not worth waiting.
@@101way6 Yeah thats what Botan meant, if Watame waited she could make her pc top of the line, but which tech being freekin powerful now, if you want a new pc or upgrade now, theres no need to have to wait.
Kind of the dilemma of PC hardware; you can always wait for something new to come out, but you can get paralyzed with this kind of thinking and end up waiting too long to upgrade, and eventually wait long enough and you'll find something that forces the upgrade when you're ill prepared to do it and forced to make compromises.

As a anime fan that does encode all day , but that have to stay on low watt cost and need his room temps to be acceptable , i just cant go on intel , i wouldnt be able to cool it effectively even with a 500$ cooler
This one cpu is the best for encoding , however theres better for gaming
Intel is great for raw power , stabillity and (for me at least) their ability to manage many ssd , right now mine amd have 6 sata ports and 2 m2 one , but i have to choose btw the last m2 port and 2 sata , i can plug an extention card but that mean less cooling for my gpu and it will look ugly anyway

NO it's not. It's always wise to wait for every second generation if you want to upgrade that being 10/30/50 regardless of the budget. Every other generation is usually cash grab with very little improvement.
Although 5000 launch might be delayed a little.
There are good and bad times on the smaller scale. Is a new generation of tech about to come out in the next few months? If so, hang on a little, prices for current gen should drop a bit. Is a new CPU socket about to come out? Might be best to wait and pick that up for a bit of futureproofing.
But yeah, at most times it's just a case of "do I need a new PC?" and if the answer is yes, just do it.

@@fzcxcxzzxcxz I think they are referring to if they should buy the current gen stuff now and make use of it or stay on their older hardware and get the new better stuff. I agree that upgrading every generation is poor value. But at some point you do need to pull the trigger and get what you want. Holding out for the newer better one. Waiting for next gen is never a sure thing. And that time waiting is time you could have spent enjoying your new system instead.

There's always a ton of ridiculously expensive and powerful cpus out there that no one buys, but yeah, best gaming GPU on market. Having a gen 4 m.2 SSD will be important as well.

Passmark score is 23213 for the i9 10900K. The 7950X is 63514. That's quite a huge upgrade!

4090 is quiet expensive compare to it's performance, however, it's still the strongest graphic card now, her system will be dominate all games many years later
Actually it's the only one worth its salt in the RTX 40XX family, despite being in a very niche market of super high end graphics cards. This generation of nVidia GPUs is both terribly priced and not enough of an upgrade compared to the previous one (not mentioning VRAM starved). People who have just "good enough" hardware are waiting for the next 50xx gen, and those who rreally need an upgrade are considering the 30xx series which is still a competitive offer compared to 40xx series, once price to performance is factored in.
4090 is a niche pick imo. I only bought one for vr stuff but if I wasn’t into it would probably pick up a gpu around 500-700 usd. Definitely an overkill gpu for a lot of people

It's not expensive compared to its performance. It's significantly faster than anything else on the market. It's the other GPUs in the 4000 family that are expensive compared to performance while also being VRAM starved.

One of the essential things you need for streaming is a PC that is powerful enough to run games in high quality, whilst being able to run other programs simultaneously and a strong internet connection for streaming purposes.
Which is why most (big/top)streamers have a beefed up PC to play games on, and a separate one to handle the actual streaming.
Funny thing is Watame never plays any graphic intensive games lol

Watame should consider either going Radeon for the GPU or wait for the RTX 5000 series with the fixed 12VH connector because we wouldn't want our fluffy sheep to stream one day and wonder why there's smoke coming out of her case.
Newer cards are shipping with an updated 12VH connector. If her SI is at all decent they will have that worked out one way or the other.

After 10 years of using very low end pc (Acer Aspire with pentium G620/ another pc with Ryzen 3 3200g - both without dedicated graphic cards)
I upgraded to 12600K + 3080
I'm buying and putting together a modest-range PC after being stuck with an R7 250 grabo, an FX6100 3-core CPU, 16 gigs of DDR3 RAM with a frequency I don't even know, and a big old magnetic HDD with a 250GB SSD to run Windows off of. It's costing me a lot but the satisfaction will be worth the cost.

Lol I used a dualcore for 15 years until 2 years ago, and even then it was to a APU quadcore (2400G) because of the crypto famine.
Only last year I bought a 3070, and I still have to get a better CPU.

Honestly any streamers setup is overkill for the normal person, if you aren't planning on playing on 4k as well, then you can make a pretty cheap high end pc.

Personally my suggestion is to wait and upgrade early when next gen hardware is available, especially since Watame current PC is decent enough that I don't think she should worry about it. I would only suggest for people, especially Vtubers, to upgrade their GPU if they are still on anything lower than RTX 20 series or RX 6000 series AND have 8GB or less VRAM. So basically if they use 8GB, instead of waiting, they probably should upgrade since from what I see more games are using like close to 8GB VRAM (well, not exactly game only, but with Windows too ofc) even at low setting. Add Live2D app and OBS always running in the background, unless they are using 2 PC configuration, then they probably would benefit from upgrading to at least 12GB GPU, preferably 16GB or higher. Recommending AMD for GPU probably would be difficult even if they have a great price to performance, so for Nvidia option, my suggestion would be 4070 Ti Super. Only buy GPU higher than that if you don't mind spending more. Using a GPU faster than 4070 series is just a bonus. If you're on a tight budget but still want Nvidia, then 4060 Ti 16GB can be a good option if you can buy it at close to $400. Oh, and in case of Watame, please don't buy 4060 Ti since its performance is too close to her current 2080 Ti (for non ray tracing ofc) thus not really feeling the upgrade. Also even if price doesn't matter, it is better to not buy 4090 since currently the price for it is inflated due to high demand for AI, same for 4080. It would only help them normalize the pricing at these inflated prices.
As for CPU, while yes, the newer CPU will improve performance by a lot, 10900K is good enough. It will bottleneck those expensive GPU, but personally I think the hassle of changing your whole system is probably not worth it unless you're actually chasing performance. Having said that, between buying Intel and AMD, at least right now, it is better to go with AMD mainly because of platform longevity, If you buy Intel 14th gen, if in 3 years you want to upgrade, you'll end up upgrading the whole thing (mainboard + CPU) while with AMD, if you buy 7000 CPU, it is likely that in 3 years you can simply upgrade the CPU.

As a person who built his PC around the same time as Botan... I too was put to shame (but honestly idgaf, a 4080 and Intel 14700k (I waited for the 14th gen to come out before making the purchase) is more than I will ever need!
At least I have more RAM! >:) DDR5 4x 32gb 7200 OC *sheeeesh* (unfortunately the RAM is not overkill, I do simulation work... When my Sims kick on to max, and I give it all the RAM it can handle, I see frequent usage of over 50 GB, and averages of depending on complexity of sim, from 28-46 GB... This is just for the sim, I still need RAM to run the OS and system xD)

It's hard to really know what the use case is, but a 7800x3d might have been better. I know she streams, but the 4090 has dual AV1 encoder already so she doesn't need a 16 core for that. Does she do long video renders all the time or something? Could be a lot of background tasks too, but very few of those are heavy enough to matter. Browsers, discord, recording software, etc should all be able to run find on an 8 core. I just think the 8 core x3d might have been better for gaming. 7950x3ds are expensive and fussy, so those aren't a good option. 7900x (what I run) is good and cheap without being overkill, but then again I assume she is pretty wealthy so she should just buy whatever she wants.

No matter how high-performance a personal computer is installed at Hololive, its lifespan is about three to four years because it is too harsh to use.
While a lot of it is overkill and a bit of an unnecessary heat generator, what always annoys me with these is that there's never a proper list if parts. This time we even got RAM amount, but not speed, and every time PSU and MOBO get forgotten.
Most JP Vtubers just buy pre-builts, so we are lucky she even knows the names of CPU and GPU at all. In general, buying pre-builts is a far bigger market in JP than picking your parts.
If anything we are lucky they have an actual PC geek among them in Botan.
She has the best person in all of Hololive to help her with this build and I’m pretty sure Botan is more knowledgeable than most of us and has considered all these things. So no need to be annoyed she’s in good hands.

Ngl, she has a pretty darn decent rig as it is. I mean 10900k+2080ti is a mighty fine combo even now. But if she feels like an upgrade is needed for the job then yeah, can't go wrong with 4090 beast of a GPU. Well, it will probably be better to just build a completely new rig altogether, since it is DDR5, new mobo, need new PSU for 4090+7950x and a good cooling solution, new case too obviously since 4090 is a gargantuan piece of hw.
