    WOW! As an avid skydive instructor and former BASE jumper, I thought reading the title, that this was the most irresponsible thing I had ever read. However, having an open mind and watching it, I have to say that this is the best representation of how to go about learning BASE in the safest way! In the beginning, there is a little miss-information. This is normal for someone who doesn't know skydiving. Then to fallow your reactions and emotions, it brought back great memories of my learning experience. "I have never been scared like that" is exactly the words I would use to describe my first BASE jump. This Documentary is a GREAT representation of going from inexperience to an educated jumper! I feel the one missing part is to inform people just how much time and money were spent on the learning process, because both were EXTENSIVE!!! Those of you making uneducated comments should really go educate yourself because you just make yourself look foolish. As for wing-suit and proximity flying, he was using a beginner suit but was not educated enough in those to have done them. I think this was a very responsible approach to this topic. Joby, welcome to a new world, I hope you have been enjoying it. Don't forget the beer.

      What does the skill of skydiving bring to base jumping, or wingsuit flying? I have never done any of these activities. I know they all use parachutes. I have done one tandem paraglider flight. That was ace!

    • @ChapalaDrone
      @ChapalaDrone 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Harry Bean, think of BASE as racing at Indy, or bull riding. Sure you can jump right in and do it but your chances greatly improved if you first know how to drive a car, or ride a horse. That is what skydiving is to BASE jumping

    That makes me feel bad when the guy says when he was young his parents were told by his teacher that he was a dreamer and that was a bad thing. I have always taught my child, there is noting you cannot do. I remember being told what i was not allowed to do, but never, what I could do.
    We always need to let our children know that they can do whatever they put there mind to and want to do. The support from a parent or parents, are more beneficial than any other thing a child could ever have.

      yeah, normal working humans beeings don´t have X month time non stop, nor money, to crank out x Jumps a day with personal training.
      I just finished my Skydive-licence in germany and it took me about 4 month to pump out 21 jumps. with many weekends were the weather was shitty or other stuff going on preventing me from jumping. (i started my journey Years ago but was forced to take a break because of work and covid, so i already hat 11 jumps prior; and was not forced to start at zero again)

  • @terrysullivan4098
    @terrysullivan4098 11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Yes, it is about $ 2500 to get to the A licence. Then you can rent the gear for around $65-80 / day ( like at Perris Valley Skydive). Jumps are around $ 22 / jump. So a day of skdiving, like 6 jumps, would cost around $ 215. Add gas and food plus around $ 50 if you want a packer to pack for you. Under $ 300 per day. Much less for wind tunnel training and it's very worth it.

Took 5 years, including more skydiving and BASE in the last year; I lost a friend that was just a state away. The day I found out was shocking and I wasn’t feeling real bad. The next day I was a crying baby for HOURS from the moment I woke up. It sucked! Getting choked up just thinking about it. I’m a skydiving instructor that looks for BASE jumps when I’m free. Gonna try to jump a huge antenna tomorrow.

I've research into it and have said it's statistically quite safe, and although things can and do go wrong, chances are quite minimal. I also watch way too many skydiving/BASE/wingsuit videos, and it just makes me want to become qualified! How did you tandem go ? :)

      i don't see why you'd rather stick to buildings and cliffs, considering a '180' is way more problematic when you jump off of those.
      the 'safest' thing you can jump is a bridge or something similar.
      either way, your comment is six months old now. have you saved up some money yet? i'm curious because i was in the same position as you when i was 15/16 and then finally had the money (2400€) at the age of 19, which was last year.

    i just realized you dont have enough time to cutaway when base jumping. no time for the reserve to pop.

    this will give me nightmares :(.
    I'm terrified of heights.
    But, as a first step, skydiving I will do.
    Sounds simple - jump and activate parachute regardless if you're on a helicopter, a balloon, or a mountain, but it's not.

    Okey, at first this documentary is awesome ! Than i got some questions. At the first jump, the very first jump of you, did you parachute got a small disfunction ? It looks like it... annnnnd, did you broke anythink ? You`re sound if you open the chute "ouuarrghhh" - and it doesnt looks that good... Nice work

    The AFF course cost about US $1300 and you have to make at least 150 jumps. So yeah it's kinda expensive, but it is totaly worth it!
