I think you are right for the first few songs all premixes from his laptop through one player. Then he starts beat matching only the rest of the way, the complicated remixes were all pre-done.
The players are linked together with the mixer via the ethernet port, this then goes from the mixer to the laptop, he is using serato in control mode so no audio cables required.
If you are planning to play something hard in Ibiza, THIS IS HOW YOU DO IT. Way much better than David Guetta's set. Clearly the crowd is moving and Fatboy Slim surely knows what kind of music to play. Love it
Well how about 36:12, there seem to be quite a lot of decks+notebook. Some of the decks switched off, some might be a spare/disconnected, who knows, not a pro. I am old enough who should be telling how vinyl used to be good. But I remember how heavy it was travelling with vinyl and DJs had to choose what to take with them, specially to plane, sometimes luggage got lost, playing borrowed plates then etc. Sound was sometimes bad because you cannot play vinyl infinitely, it loses quality by each playing, scratches, etc. Of course, it had some magic, but I do not understand why people are so jumpy about playing prerecorded sets, or parts of sets. It's EDM, it's computer made music by its nature, all music fits to one USB stick, this is called evolution. Computer helps mixing, so now everyone can be quite a good DJ, it will sound good most of the time. What matters more now is what music/tracks he can produce/compose. So after more than 20 years of partying including 90s, Ibiza, Sensations and other parties around Europe, I do not have any hard feelings about prerecording. But the DJ should be able to change its parts acording to what the current audience like. Its Norman Cook, everyone knows how good musician (and DJ) he is. He obviously has a lot more energy than people half of his age, so big respect! Btw. hope to see him some day somewhere, when our very little children grow up and mother of my kinds and me will be able to go to ANY party again. And hope to have energy like Fatboy Slim by his age ;-)
Serato control mode. He's using the CDJs to manipulate tracks live from his laptop which are linked via ethernet into the mixer so the audio is travelling over ethernet cable. Yes he does play premade mashups but he mixes from premade mashup to premade mashup. Still live DJing.
