Congrats on your first Waveski experience. What you were on is a cruise ship. Wait until you get a chance to try a high performance ski. That whole “so stable” thing disappears….but ON the wave…you can just think where you want to go and it does it. I spent 10+ years waveski surfing in So California and then moved to WA state where it’s a 5 hour drive to the nearest break in Canada and Hypothermia is a danger..in the SUMMER. At nearly 60 my waveski days are pretty much over. I miss it. 😢
That's awesome! Thanks for sharing. Sounds like you must have had some awesome surfs. Which breaks were your go-to choices? That makes a lot of sense. This was a (very) old one borrowed from work. I imagine it was never high-performance, even when new!
Nice surfing Matt! Good to see another person in on a ski:) My most scary moment on a ski was getting knocked into a cliff at the 2019 World Champs - would not recommend! Little tip for paddling out, as you noticed ski's dont boof super well so generally most of us will roll under bigger waves as a sort of duck dive, pulling the front of the board down with your feet as the wave moves over you:)

Making me miss the sea so much again! Shame we aren't closer so you could try my Hobson Apex kayak, way different again from the waveski and the plastic HP surf boat you tried before. Loved the bit where you thought you were heading for a breaking wave on your head! That really freaks me out when that happens!
