Why is Platinum so cheap? Why is platinum worth less than gold? Should we be buying platinum right now? These and many more questions we shall ask and answer in today's video. I think platinum is a very undervalued metal and one that could very easily out perform gold and silver. However it is a difficult metal to own physically with taxes and issues selling it. What is best for you might not be best for others.
This video is about stacking platinum and buying platinum as an investment. Platinum is mostly used for industry and specifically the automotive industry in catalytic converters. Platinum spot price has been very volatile over the past few decades going up to $2200 and down to $750. Currently the platinum spot price is $935.

Indeed. Especially with hydrogen cell research. 50-60 grams used for each car seems to be a minimum, compared to 5 grams for ICE cars in the catalytic converter. And yes, a hydrogen cell generates electricity for people that think it's another Internal Combustion Engine, so it will be eligible to production after 2035.

@@zacharyreff5137 I would tend to agree but platinum has never been used as money where gold and silver has. Platinum is more “industrial” and it can be replaced with other metals. I think that’s why it’s not being priced higher than gold. With that said though you’re right I rather have the platinum wedding band lol

Platinum is an interesting metal. I don't think anyone can go wrong on 1oz Platinum Brittanias. I've been getting the Platinum Tudor Beasts, and I have a Platinum coin from Gibraltar. I'm not an expert, but it does seem like the price is good. Five years ago, the price was roughly about $900, now it is roughly $900. Within that five years, it had lows of about $600, and a high of about $1300. Who knows what it will do, but there is also the collector value of the coins.

1oz Platinum Philharmonics are sold out… I have about 2oz of Platinum. I am not sure about the potentials. Talking as a chemist, chemical companies and oil refineries would sell Pt in stock and use other catalysts if the prices would go up. These tons of Pt on the market would immediately have a negative impact on the prices imho. I will continue buying some fractional coins from time to time but that’s it.

Industrial demand looks set to rise as it is used in hydrogen fuel cells and a range of other niche functions. Also, its production is concentrated in South Africa and Russia, both pretty unstable countries.

Well once the masses were able to melt and purify platinum to a degree, and start minting things, that would have been the great time for it to become a medium of exchange and a unit of account, but it never did, which is why I don't see it as a form of money, even though it definitely holds all of the properties, just like the other for precious metals. I used to stack it and there was a point in time in 2020 and in 2021 that I was able to increase my gold stack by offloading Platinum and I do not regret it to this day

I think vat on precious metals should be repealed or reduced since it limits peoples willingness to invest in it. Also I think it would help even if you just got rid of it for stackers buying anything in ten ounce size (like bars) or less. Only problem for a while then would be premiums while wholesalers and dealers try to shift overpriced stock.

Platinum like silver have a major problem they are industrial metals and whilst they stay that way they can never reach full potential. Industrial metals in recessions do badly as the dominant demand factor falls off a cliff. If Industrial metals rise in price too high it will damage the economy as the goods become too expensive . They typically don't out perform shares in good time and they don't out perform gold as safe haven in the bad times . Having said that platinum coins look and feel amazing

As electric cars continue to gain ground, platinum’s use is decreased. I’m sure there will be ups and downs, but I have no confidence in the long term.

    • @thomastrefz

Platinum most likely going down. my price target to get in is around 600. If EVs go mainstream platinum could fall to 400 or 300. They plan to ban gas cars by 2035. But on the bright side if gold and silver go parabolic in the next 12 to 24 months once they go up people will start buying Platinum because it's cheaper than gold and silver and that will force the price up basically just because of demand will be higher. This could be a good speculative play making massive amounts of money on Platinum before the bubble pops.
