Stephen Stills is one of the most underappreciated musicians of the past half century. Great vocalist, guitarist, writer, and producer. I first heard him in Buffalo Springfield, but he's been instrumental (no pun intended) in forming several other groups. Listen to some Manassas! By the way, he's the lead guitar on this song.
After seeing Crosby, Stills and Nash live in the late 1990's I can fully attest to this. Stills guitar playing live was astounding and I had been listening to his music for years but never live. It was a completely new experience. I remain blown away decades later.
Nobody harmonized quite like CSNY. They really set the bar high. And all their music was meaningful. Just a joy to listen to. Thanks for reacting to this one. Have a great night.

I was about to say the same thing. I am forever grateful to have lived during this era. From their first album in '69 ( still have it ) to listening to them now on TH-cam, with young folks reacting to their magic, I've been there with them. There's just one puzzling question that keeps popping up: I was 24 years old in 1969 - my next birthday I'll turn 78...where the hell did all that time go???

Buffalo Springfield, of course, also featured Neil Young. On a personal note, Stills & Young first met in my hometown of Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada.

Yes, I didn't totally register this until recently, but there are various forms of misinformation out there as well. The album track is called "Carry On" and makes no mention of "Questions" being integral to it, though it obviously is. In one online source, it states that Stills "wrote" this song after being told the band needed a strong opening track for the album "Deja vu". But clearly, he didn't write much that was new, instead incorporating two previous compositions with a bridge that features the "carry on" lines. The finished product is very strong, but I don't think many CSNY fans are aware of the song's origin. Stills wrote "Questions" and recorded it solo except for Richie Furay adding a bit of acoustic guitar and harmony vocal. It's one of his strongest songs, and I still prefer his version of the song in the original Buffalo Springfield album, probably the last song he did for that group as it was falling apart.
My favorite CSN song, released in 1970, and one that I thought Amber would like because of its trippy hippie sound. Another hippie-ish group with great harmonies that y'all should get back to is the Mamas and the Papas. Try their song "Twelve-Thirty" from 1968.

Almost certainly Stephen Stills on guitar and a bit of Neil Young. Check out Wooden Ships! One of their most underrated songs
Young didn't play or sing on this one.
Stephen Stills plays most of the instruments on this song himself. No Neil Young on this one.
@@magneto7930Stephen played every instrument except drums on this track!
@@kona883 I pretty much said that, but yes. I was mostly pointing out that Neil Young is not on this recording at all.
This is my dad favorite band.
He graduated from college in ‘74.
I love them too - they taught me what harmony should be and made me fall in love with 60/70 music.
Wait! Neil Young was definitely on this LP-- look at "& Young" on the cover! He wasn't on the previous 1st LP. "Carry On" was released as the B-side Of "Teach Your Children" (#16 peak) in 1970. "Carry On" did not get a separate charting the the Billboard Hot 100 but was played on rock radio.
My favorite song my CSN&Y. Crosby and Nash harmonies were the best in the rock era.
Glad you enjoy CSNY----another great harmony song to check out----"Guinnevere"
Teriffic song...
Their harmonies are so good, very pleasing to the ear. Good song. I suggest "Teach Your Children."
"Teach Your Children" is one of the best songs ever created. Truly inspired!
Stills guitar and the production work in general are all superlative in this unusual choice in instrumentation over the Harmonies
How about “HUMMINGBIRD” 😊❤YOULL LOVE IT!!!!!!!!
LOVE seeing ya'll enjoy music I grew up with !Thanks for the memories. Got to see them (CSN&Y) in concert when I was 16. Now, at 66 it was still in my top 5, up there with B.B. King, Jeff Beck and Robert Plant.
Steven Stills sang lead, played lead guitar and wrote most of their songs like this one. Incredible.
And played organ and congas
, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. A great song!! The guitar was, Young!!!!
This is CSNY. It says as much on that album cover you are staring at.
Young did not perform on this song however.
Stepehen Stills did most of the great guitar work for the group. He was a master of about six different instruments.
Stephen Stills. Amazing guitar.
Saw this in concert 1973? Winterland in SF❤
The harmonies are top notch. The instrumentals don’t really get enough attention.🖖🏼🍻
My oldest brother is ten years my senior, middle brother six.
When this came out oldest brought this home and sat both of us youngest and my mom down and "made" us listen.
Even my grown up mom was enthralled with the harmonies, with the production value(we didn't know it was called that yet).
Large among my life influences, musically, and socially.
Little hippie Amber girl. 👍❤🤙
I bought that album when I was 12-I would lay in my room and listen to it over and over. Good times-every song on the album is great. ❤❤❤
There's no band that does the harmonies like CSN.
This is my favorite of all their songs. ❤. Can't get enough of it
Definitely great psychedelic music from my time. Thanks for your videos and insights on the music from the past. Jay and Amber Y'all just keep rocking.
How good is this music. 50+ years later this is viable for the playlist!!
Now this is my kinda jam , boomers had the best music JMPO 🤷🏻♀️ the harmonies are always on point ♥️
