    H/H match update for 1331 and preview of the week ahead:
    ...
    This is week 267 of our favorite classic game show (the show ends with week 291 and episode number 1455), so our final curtain feels like it's just around the corner. These episodes were taped on September 24, 1978, and originally aired in early November of 1978.
    This week, Brett & Charles are in their places with bright, shiny faces, and they're joined by:
    ~~~ Semi-regular *Joyce Bulifant* returns for her 36th week (of 38 total). Joyce last appeared in 1281-1285, so it's nice to see her again after 9 weeks off. Joyce scored her 4th head-to-head match in episode 1283, and so she stands near the top of the leader board at 4 matches in 5 attempts (80.0%). It'll be interesting to see if the wheel chooses Joyce this week.
    ~~~ *Elaine Joyce* is back for her 24th week (of 26 total). Elaine last visited in episodes 1271-1275. During that week, the wheel selected her twice (1272 and 1275), but she didn't score a match either of those times. Still, she's matched twice in her four total attempts, and one more match will advance her to big leader board. Looking back, Elaine occupied the sixth seat for a single week (episodes 241-245). I'm glad that experiment didn't lead anywhere, because although she'd be a decent sixth-seater, I prefer her in #4.
    ~~~ *David Doyle* returns for his 6th week (of 8 total). He last appeared in 1306-1310, and has always been (and will remain) in that first seat. (He never gets a shot in #5.) So far, the wheel has been avoiding David. During his most recent week, for example, the wheel chose CNR 3 times, and Debralee, Nipsey, and Betty once each. But I have the feeling he'll get a shot this week...
    ~~~ Last but not least, *Raymond Burr* makes his Match Game debut. But it's also his only week on the panel, and they put him in seat #5 no less! Had I been producing, I would've put David in 5 and Raymond in 1, but I guess the current arrangement makes some sense. Raymond does have a healthy measure of gravitas, and David works well in #1 next to Brett.
    It looks like it has the makings to be a great week, and I can't wait to see how it goes!
    ~~~Today's action:
    Right from the get-go, Raymond Burr looks out of place. For one, he's so big! His comment about checking the show out before he came leads me to believe that he's not terribly familiar with the concept and the answers, and his puzzled expression at 1:56 after hearing the first question makes me a little nervous. But my fears are allayed when he comes up with the matching (and most popular) answer to the first question, and he didn't copy from his lower-tier colleagues who both had silly answers!
    In fact, Raymond demonstrates a keen "Match Game" intellect (and seems to relax) during the protracted game that limps its way to a second tie-breaker. But in the end, our champion wins her second game.
    But with two tie-breakers, time has run out! No Super-Match today! Stay tuned tomorrow!
    ~~~Since there was no Super-Match, there's space today for the full list of all 54 celebrities who have so far scored a H/H match in Match Game '7x (in alphabetical order):
    Don Adams, Jack Albertson, Morey Amsterdam, Edward Asner, Patty Duke Astin, Bob Barker, Orson Bean, Charlie Brill, Joyce Bulifant, Gary Burghoff, Jack Carter, Bert Convy, Bill Daily, Clifton Davis, Richard Dawson, Lynn Deerfield, Patti Deutsch, Ann Elder, Fannie Flagg, Rosemary Forsyth, Bonnie Franklin, Stu Gilliam, Tab Hunter, Carolyn Jones, Elaine Joyce, George Kennedy, Jack Klugman, Michael Landon, June Lockhart, Allen Ludden, Lorrie Mahaffey, Robert Mandan, Lee Meriwether, Mary Ann Mobley, Richard Paul, Donna Pescow, Jo Ann Pflug, Charles Nelson Reilly, Madlyn Rhue, Susan Richardson, Nipsey Russell, Isabel Sanford, Avery Schreiber, Debralee Scott, Brett Somers, Kaye Stevens, McLean Stevenson, Trish Stewart, Loretta Swit, Richard Thomas, Bobby Van, Betty White, Mary Wickes, and Jo Anne Worley.
    ~~~And here's the complete list of all celebs (in alphabetical order) who have been chosen for the H/H match so far without matching:
    (An asterisk before their name indicates they've "retired" from MG, and their H/H stats are now complete.)
    Loni Anderson - chosen 1 time
    (*)Lucie Arnaz - chosen 1 time
    (*)Kay Ballard - chosen 1 time
    (*)Meg Bennett - chosen 1 time
    (*)Amanda Blake - chosen 1 time
    (*)Joe Silver - chosen 1 time
    (*)Joanie Sommers - chosen 1 time
    Don Sutton - chosen 1 time
    Robert Walden - chosen 1 time
    (*)Jimmie Walker - chosen 1 time
    Marcia Wallace - chosen 3 times
    ~~~Finally, here's our standing leader board showing the 11 celebs with at least 3 H/H matches, ranked by accuracy:
    (An asterisk before a celebrity's name signifies that she or he has "retired" from the show and their H/H stats are now complete.)
    (For tied scores, I consider the one with the greater number of matches to be higher; if the matches are equal, the celeb who first achieved that score goes on top.)
    Orson Bean - 100% (4 matches in 4 attempts).
    Joyce Bulifant - 80.0% (4 matches in 5 attempts).
    (*)Jo Anne Worley - 75% (3 matches in 4 attempts).
    Gary Burghoff - 62.5% (5 matches in 8 attempts).
    Charles - 50.0% (40 matches in 80 attempts).
    Betty - 46.9% (23 matches in 49 attempts).
    Fannie - 46.2% (18 matches in 39 attempts).
    (*)Jo Ann Pflug - 44.4% (8 matches in 18 attempts).
    Brett - 44.3% (39 matches in 88 attempts).
    (*)Richard - 42.5% (373 matches in 878 attempts).
    Bert Convy - 33.3% (5 matches in 15 attempts).
    *These stats include every head-to-head match from episode 1 through 1331, excluding the missing/damaged/unavailable episodes: 31, 32, 33, 311, 312, 313, 324, 325, 645, 910, 1024, 1025, 1026, 1027, 1028, 1029, and 1030. (Note: episode 849 was never produced.) These stats do, however, include the H/H results of missing episode 968 as those results were revealed in episode 969. There was no H/H in missing episode 1035, as we learn in 1036. These stats do, however, include results of episodes 1309 through 1317, found on channels other than this o

    Politically, I disagreed with Gene Rayburn completely. Having said that, he never let political crap interfere with putting on a good show. I miss those days. Just do your job, have fun, and leave political crap out of it. Today's entertainers don't get that. Look at Johnny Carson's interview with Mike Wallace. Way back then, Carson knew that his place was not to preach politics. Gene Rayburn understood that and was a warm, wonderful, and very kind man and I respect him for that.
    He had a weekly dinner with all of the panelists and did that faithfully during all of his years on Match Game. I truly miss him, even 21 years after his passing.
