He knew the cipher was being primed (because the Prospector was heal-stalling), so he was hoping to use the Patroller to stun the Prospector so he could safely pick up the Female Dancer without hitting the Prospector. If it succeeded, he would've been able to chair the Female Dancer and still had time to hunt down the Prospector for the tie. It wasn't a bad play, he didn't have any good options at that point. If he just hit the Prospector normally while he was healing Dancer, they would've popped the cipher, and Dancer would've had time to move away (just like she did in the actual game as seen here) because he would've been in the attack recovery animation. It just didn't work. They saw through it and popped the cipher during the Patroller deploying animation instead.
