    So I stumbled upon this video and I am a new nurse 3 months on the floor and I am literally dying! I struggle with my charting. I don’t have a good routine yet and the people who are seasoned nurses are not really willing to help. I’m trying to figure out how to be an more efficient nurse! What keeps me up is the patients will tell me that I am literally one of the few nurses who actually take the time out to listen. I was a medical assistant prior to going to school for LVN. I don’t take it for granted and I am always willing to take the time to help out the CNAs when I can because I know that they don’t get the support at times. I show appreciation to them because we are a team. Now hopefully you read this and can give me the advice of how to be efficient and effective nurse. Peace and blessings to you ♥️

      Hey Vicky,
      I’m sorry that your transition hasn’t been the best, but I’m here to help! Definitely watch part two of this series and see if that helps you with a routine. I detail how I start my shift and how I stay on track/organized. I also include my assessment sheets and what I look for to get me started. After you watch that video drop any comments with specific questions, and I will try and be of more help.

    This video is amazing ! I am a new grad six months in now and all the stuff you said is what finally clicked in my head recently. I wish I would have found this earlier. The ICU is a little bit different charting wise since we do assessments q4. But this general overview is still very revelant. I will be sharing this with other new grads ! Thank you

      Thank you so much ! I’m glad it’s helpful I just remember how I felt, and wanted to share tips that helped me get to where I am! There’s also a part 2 where I link sheets, and show how I prep my assessment sheets. Please do I wish I could attach these videos to every new nurses email! 😂

    Girl, i love you. I saw this vid b4 my floor assignment. I am back again. Are you doing your output? That gets me stucked as I was expecting my cna would do that for me.

    • @cassiekaygee
      @cassiekaygee  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you so much 🥹 listen the way I have just made it a habit to double check vitals, output, and baths now. I will just monitor it and if I don’t see anything halfway through the shift I speak with the CNA. I’m not sure what’s happening, but most facilities are now trying to make it the nurses job to make sure the techs are doing their jobs…I don’t believe that is fair, but we also have to cover ourselves in some way cause it’s always our fault as the nurse.

    I graduated this past May, I passed Boards mid June. That’s about the same time I started the Nurse Residency program and orientation. I’m ❤’ing my job and my preceptor is super cool and very helpful. I have about 3/4 weeks left in orientation before I’m on my own. As a new nurse…maneuvering through EPIC, frantically thumbing through doctors notes trying to figure out what’s next on the agenda for that particular patient. But because I’m such a newbie I don’t know where else I can find upcoming procedures in the morning. Or am I required to just know which procedures require the pt to be NPO after midnight? Or will the doctor make an order for the pt to be NPO at midnight?
    I’m so glad I found ur videos!!! They’ve already been a god-send for me.

    • @cassiekaygee
      @cassiekaygee  26 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Congratulations!!! Welcome to the nursing world! My rule of thumb is just to have all of my patients stop eating after midnight if they have any type of procedure! It’s better to be safe than sorry. I always just explain to my pts “Hey you have a procedure tomorrow, and I’m not sure if the doctor wants you to be NPO but just in case let’s just not eat or drink anything after midnight” I also offer to bring them snacks or a sandwich from the floor stock to make sure they are fed before midnight ☺️
      I’m so happy you found them as well! I’m happy I could help ☺️ I uploaded some more recent ones as well in a new series called “if I was your preceptor” where I map out a shift for you! 💕

    You mentioned that at 7 and 5 you do your charting/notes, what exactly do you chart/note?

    • @cassiekaygee
      @cassiekaygee  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      At 7 I’m doing a FULL assessment, daily cares, care plan, and education once I’ve assessed the pt. At five I’m updating (if necessary), doing my rounding (at most facilities that is your fault cares), and making sure all pain assessments/re-assessments are complete ☺️

    Great video!! What do you mean by hang the heparin drip on the highest IV when in the same side?

    • @cassiekaygee
      @cassiekaygee  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you have to IV sites (one in the AC and one in the forearm) hang the heparin in the AC ☺️ if you have a pt who is no sticks on one side they’ll likely have all their access on one side ☺️

    • @keerstinprice8386
      @keerstinprice8386 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@cassiekaygee what’s the rationale for putting it in the higher iv?

    • @cassiekaygee
      @cassiekaygee  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      SO SORRY I’m just seeing this because of notification issues. I hope I’m not too late and this still helps. You hang it on the higher IV to ensure that no other meds mix in with it. So if you’re also running antibiotics on the same arm you won’t run the risk of the antibiotics interfering with the heparin.

    What is your nurse to patient ratio? I am a new grad nurse on day shift on med surg floor and when I have 8 patients everything is so late. Sometimes I don’t get done with morning meds until 1-2 pm. It be a mess. 😭 My time management is horrible.

    • @cassiekaygee
      @cassiekaygee  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      EIGHT?! I literally will not go past 6 patients. Anything over six is impossible! Girl, get out of there! 😭😭😭 I’m 1/6 and that’s the most I’ll go. Like I will literally leave if they try to give me 7 pts, and no one has ever tried it! Med surg! Omg girl leaveeeeeee! 😭😭😭 what state do you live in?! I’m in shock! Lmao
