The yellow-bellied marmot (Marmota flaviventris), also known as the rock chuck, is a large, stout-bodied ground squirrel in the marmot genus. Adults averages 11 pounds. They are active in three seasons and hibernate in the winter season. The location of this video was filmed in the Gunnison National Forest, above 10,500 feet elevation, in the Rocky Mountains of the western United States. They usually live at altitudes above 6,500 feet (2,000 meters).
