    After many delays, the newest episode of DM It All is out! In honor of Dragonlance's return as a 5th Edition setting, we decided to revisit the world of Krynn. I played AD&D for many years playing in the World of Greyhawk setting. I remember our long time GM asking us about starting another campaign in the Dragon Lance setting. As soon as it was revealed that we would be using pre-rolled characters from the actual books we all said no. The issue we had was first we preferred the Greyhawk setting we had played for many years. Also by using actual characters from the books we understood that the direction and outcome of this campaign was already decided. Where is the adventure when the story and outcome has already been set? It's a stupid idea.

    • @Bluecho4
      @Bluecho4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Even back in the day, it was obvious the railroad was a bad idea.

    • @Moondramon
      @Moondramon 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Except using the pregen characters were optional. You could also just use your characters from Greyhawk if you wanted.
      And the railroaded-ness can be alleviated by using the 13 Dragonlance novel modules as a backdrop and just play around in, maybe follow the DM's hints or not. Or just play it like any other module and fit it in Greyhawk. And the fact that in a lot of the modules have at least more than 1 ending, at least a bad outcome and a happy outcome. Heck the true final module says that if your party loses against BBEG and live, you can still play within the doomed world.
      Kinda unfortunate you didn't give your DM the chance to playthrough it, but I wasn't there so maybe he made it sound way worse than it was.

    • @ThorMNKasp
      @ThorMNKasp 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    • @pjm3005
      @pjm3005 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Moondramon nah, the DL modules were terrible. Unkillable PCs/NPCs, constant railroading so that the "epic" story can be revealed, zero actual player agency. And why would anyone put in the effort to stage this in Greyhawk? I buy modules so that the work is DONE FOR ME, not so that I have to re-write 14 different modules.

    best advice I could give you for running these modules is drop the npc capsule system have your players play there own character's instead of the pregen's make the refugees more of a rp focus instead of a mechanical focus if a important npc dies just roll with it or make a new npc later and most important be flexible as a dm the module or the books are not the only way the story can play out if your players want to try something that the module doesn't account for just roll with it it might be more fun that way. ps. this has been rambling with smeef

    @StarkMaximum ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Man, Dragonlance sucks BALLS. Not to degrade its place in DnD history, nor to even besmirch its loyal fans. I mean specifically, for me, Dragonlance is such an annoyingly bad setting. It's like they walked in and decided to just systematically remove every single thing I love about DnD and either say "it just doesn't exist here" or "it's so different to be unrecognizable". Lovable halflings replaced by inusfferable kender, badass orcs replaced with doofy fucking budget dragonborn, and adventures that are glorified theme park rides where you just walk through a hallway and go "ooh, ahh" at all the cool NPCs doing things that you don't get to do, because they're so married to the fucking story they're marketed with. And I swear to god, I cannot fathom how anyone on the planet can defend the creation of gulley dwarves, even back then. There's no "it was a different time!" there, gulley dwarves are just the absolute worst thing anyone has ever created and i can't create a situation in my head where they at all need to exist in the way they do. Those things are embarrassing.
    I mean, you should keep making these videos, obviously, because again, it's DnD history and it's important, but boy it is like taking medicine watching videos about Dragonlance stuff just because I love DM It All and I want to support them.
