Ve Starém Jičíně na severní Moravě se osamoceně vypíná Starojický kopec, na jehož vrcholu stojí zřícenina hradu Starý Jičín. Z vyhlídkové věže je krásný výhled do všech stran.
Starý Jičín se stal již na počátku 13. století tržní vsí. Při spojovacích cestách s okolím vznikaly další kolonizační osady. Tyto se stávají součástí panství, jehož tržním centrem je Starý Jičín. Patrně již kolem r. 1230 získal Starý Jičín s okolím Arnold z Hückeswagenu, šlechtic pocházející z Porýní, jenž zastával dosti významné místo v družině Přemysla Otakara I. První písemná zmínka o hradu pochází ze 14.7.1240, kdy Arnold z Hückeswagenu vydával v "Ditschin" darovací listinu pro premonstráty ve Steinfeldu. Počátkem 14. století se stal držitelem hradu rod pánů z Kravař. Po několika změnách majitelů po husitských válkách získává panství na počátku 16. století rod pánů ze Žerotína.
Počátkem třicetileté války ztrácejí Žerotínové panství i hrad, který je v průběhu války obsazován vojsky obou stran. V držení Starého Jičína se v průběhu 17. a 18. století vystřídala řada rodů. Koncem 18. století se hrad i panství dostávají do majetků rodů Seilernů. Vzhledem k nezájmu majitelů hrad rychle podléhal rozkladu. Bohužel ani snaha hraběte dr. Bedřicha Deyma na počátku 20. století nezabránila hlodajícímu zubu času a z kdysi mohutného hradu se stala zřícenina.

Starý Jičín became a market village already at the beginning of the 13th century. Other colonization settlements were created along the connecting roads with the surrounding area. These become part of the estate, the market center of which is Starý Jičín. Probably around 1230, Starý Jičín and its surroundings were acquired by Arnold from Hückeswagen, a nobleman from the Rhineland, who held a rather important position in the retinue of Přemysl Otakar I. The first written mention of the castle dates from 14.7.1240, when Arnold from Hückeswagen published in "Ditschin "donation deed for the Premonstratensians in Steinfeld. At the beginning of the 14th century, the family of lords from Kravař became the owners of the castle. After several changes of owners after the Hussite wars, the manor was acquired by the family of the lords from Žerotín at the beginning of the 16th century.
At the beginning of the Thirty Years' War, the Žerotín estate and the castle, which is occupied by the troops of both sides during the war, are lost. During the 17th and 18th centuries, a number of families took turns in possession of Staré Jičín. At the end of the 18th century, both the castle and the manor became the property of the Seilern families. Due to the lack of interest of the owners, the castle was quickly subject to decay. Unfortunately, even the efforts of Count Dr. Bedřich Dey at the beginning of the 20th century did not prevent the gnawing tooth of time and the once mighty castle became a ruin.
