God! You are such a godsend please keep up the GREAT work are you from Yorkshire the more I listen to you the more I feel I've met or worked with you when I was apprentice
We always replace the 4x wing to bulkhead dodgey sized screws with stainless steel m8 door hinge captive nuts, m8 x20 washers and m8x25 flange head screws. Tightens up a lot better and a13mm socket fits perfect
Just reviewed this as had to remove the wings to fit roll cage stanchions. What a nightmare, especially so on RHD 200Tdi when you have both the heater intake and engine intake in the LH wing!
Mike, your videos are exceptional and very practical. I'm rebuilding a 110 County Station Wagon from a pile of bits and have been pausing through this one every now and then; I have seen exactly how some crucial brackets and fixings need to be placed! Worth it's weight in gold to me. I knew about the Whitworth bolt heads from my days with Series trucks (and their gearboxes!) ; it is still amazing that LR changed to metric everywhere else except the front guard/wing fixings in later lives. For Calum: yes anti-roll bars do work to reduce that unnerving (but not dangerous, I think) body lean when cornering. Dedicated off-roaders though wanted more articulation so they ditched them . For comfort on road, especially for passengers, roll bars are good. Remember that LRs were never designed to be driven like sports cars and hooned through twisty bendy roads! Swapping in a Disco 1 transfer case for better cruising is common and should not be a major problem - but be wary of the changes made to the handbrake actuator and lever mechanisms on the transfer case (fixable but awkward) - oh yes... and the speedometer cable drive (part electrical vs fully cable driven) Neil
Thanks Old Stuff! I have been there so many times, it is time to give something back, so others don't make the mistakes I did in the past and save a few quid along the way! Mike
Good point - the speedo drive is swappable (if you can get your old one out - if not change the rear casing), but as he has a Td5 them he can just swap out the D1 handbrake assembly and keep the Td5 cable with no messing M
@@BritannicaRestorations ecky thump that was fun just need to do the passenger side now front shocks been on since 1999 and don't want to come off on bottom nut time for the saw.
I have removed wheel arch and wing.....to inspect footwell area...... Now I cannot put back bottom bolt because of radiator...... Yeah I just saw your one , engine and radiator is out.........
Hi there, I've got two questions for you if you're willing to answer about a Defender 90 TD5 country?, the first one is would a transfer box off a Discovery 1 that was bolted on to the LT77S gearbox fit on to a R380 Defender ? the reason I was told was for better miles to the gallon was to get a transfer box off a Discovery 1 because the ratio' s were higher on the Discovery 1's than the Defender's and I've got one off a Discovery 1 still in good order with 90 thousand miles on it, the second question is do anti roll bars actually work or are the a waste of money ? Thanks for your helpful videos !👍👍
Hi Mike, my wings are not leveled against the bumper. Looking from the front, the left wing is higher than the right. What do i do to correct it? Thanks!

Yes - not as simple as the Haynes manual states..

Hey Mike, possible to get inner wheel arch without removing wing?
I am not sure - have a go!
Thanks, Mike!
If we renovate this truck I will do a better video by removing the wings - but you need some Whitworth sockets!

Many thanks mike much appreciated (aka Stephen Porter )
No problem!Mike

It is usually the bulkhead that dictates the wing height
@@BritannicaRestorations Thanks Mike. Will check on that
He picks the easy side
What a mess to work some nuts and bolts as metric and the other half Withworth and some more imperial measurements...
I think LR must have bought 10 million Whitworth bolts in the 50's and need to use them up...Mike
