I think what I loved about this band was the energy and chaos that the whole Silent Alarm record has. Ol boy on lead guitar is literally howling on the thing half the songs, drummer's putting this powerful, but moving rhythm down, bass player would do his best to make everyone dance, and Kele would try to pretty everything up with his vocal passages. It's something I haven't seen them replicate live since those early days' shows (Jools comes to mind here). Either way, it's cool knowing they're still out here doing basically the same thing, just feels a lot more watered-down.

As much as I love silent alarm, it was made 15 years ago, playing the same songs for 15 years, aging and changing as a person, it's not difficult to see how someone may disconnect from a song lyrically or simply just get sick of it. They are playing silent alarm in full in July of this year as of writing, (2019), and I'm hopefully going to see them there so maybe it'll be better since they are specifically doing those songs
I'm gonna say I like the new guys but I watched a video of this same song being performed back in 2004 and my god Matt's drumming was just so much more ferocious and powerful. I do like Louise but I don't think she has the passion or ability to play drums like Matt did.
I was there and Kele was actually on fire the whole concert. Never seen him so into it and having fun before. He was amazing. He brought us all a party.

I'm a hack on bass myself so I resigned myself to mediocrity instead of trying to emulate his talent, the drummer is really good too even though she's not the original, the drums and bass aren't as solid as the original members, why did they change the lineup anyway? The drumming is a bit belaboured and the bass isn't accurate, the strength of the original lineup was the accuracy of the rhythm section
I don't think so. 2 members left the band, Matt Tong and Gordon. Matt Tong was the Asian who used to be on drums, but he left and went to a punk band called Algiers. I think Gordon was the bass player, but he left.
There were 4 albums before. This was the first year they were playing together. Check out their shows from 2018-2019 to see how tight they're playing now.

I don't say "bring back Tong and Moakes" even if I would really enjoy the reunion. I say "you've got one the most important songs of the mid 2000's in your back catalogue and fan looking at the stage sees you like you don't remember from where they come from".

So for me, people who complain about Kele and Co.'s fitness are just insecure about themselves. Louise sounds different because, surprise, she's another person and talented in her own right. That being said, this is always very sad for remaining original members and the fans. For me, Bloc Party 2019 still sounded like a cover band in terms of playing old stuff live. The drummer’s great, no doubts about that, but this is just a different band now. They moved on with „Hymns” and they moved on with every other album. For me, it’s a much worse band, that lost its distinct feel along the way. It’s like New Order without Hooky - it’s lacking something. I still want to check both New Order and Peter Hook and The Light live, just like I would like to check this lineup of Bloc Party and Algiers live.

at the first verse, it's at about 160bpm which is exactly on point with the studio version, and by the last chorus and outro it actually speeds up by a couple bpm. however, they did tend to play it a bit faster live back around the silent alarm/AWITC era (maybe around 165), so i can see why you'd think it's slower

I simply expected more from that live version but I guess I must have forgotten that these new Bloc Party members basically do covers of the bands old songs since they were probably in their early teenage years when they were originally written. So yeah I was quick to judge I admit as they all had to adapt to playing the bands old songs. Their new track sounds really good and from what I've read Kele is soon to be a father and it just can't sink in for me how he went from being a young, skinny, hot head frontman, to the person he's become, both musically and personally. I still like Bloc Party and I'm not one of those fans who yearn for the old style. Personally, I loved Four and their latest album was great too but too much religious references for my taste. I have nothing against that since I'm not an atheist or something similar but it's just you wouldn't expect that from Bloc Party, maybe from a Kele's solo album but not from a band with a new lineup itself.
