I did the basic maths and was surprised to realise that theoretically women can't finish this race on average. Let me explain: It is well known that in athletic disciplines women perform on average at 90% the level of men. Or in timed events this means they take roughly 110% of the men's time. Well, if you take the average time of a Barkley finisher (~57 hours 40 minutes) and multiply that by 110% you get 64 hours. However, on the basis of the best male time (52 hours), a woman taking 10% more time should theoretically be able to cover the course in 57 hours 12 minutes. I realise that the Barkley course varies from year to year and can be both longer in distance and also more or less technical. So, on an "easy" year and elite woman would theoretically be able to finish, but on average you shouldn't count on it. Obviously these calculations shouldn't be taken too seriously. For one thing, the data pool is extremely limited since only 18 men have ever finished. Personally I imagine if this race had as many starters as, say, a Western States or a UTMB we would see a female finisher within 2 or 3 editions of the event.
No, you didn't. When it comes to athletic performance, the numbers between men and women even out the more the focus is on endurance. Which is why women have won over men in ultra marathons, just not in this specific one.
Understand....but again what's the average ratio of women to men in this race? I bet much lower, judging by other videos I saw. That will of course interfere with that.
Few women compete because few women are objectively physically accomplished enough to qualify. You know there is a selection process to compete, right?
He knows her & only says these things because her to try.. She was the runner up in HIS race "Bigs backyard ultra".. She ran 279 miles and he was ecstatic to have her there. He knows a woman is capable & wants nothing else than to have the first woman to finish..
Statistically speaking, neither men nor women can finish this race. Every instance of someone finishing is an anomaly. They are not proving that others like them can do it but only that they, Mark, Brett, and Jasmin, have what it takes.
Even is a woman finishes the race, ti won't mean anything, as exceptions do not make the rule. That some women as taller or stronger than many men, does not make the statement "Woman are shorter than men" or "Women are weaker than men" wrong.
Vebinz In this case I think it's more about " are women tough enough to beat this race?" and less about "are woman tougher than men?" Just my opinion though....
Wait, Laz also said Jasmin was going to be the only one able to do it. What he (and I think everyone who loves pushing the limits) wants is to see now even more women going and try to make it. When you have a figure to follow everything can change, so hopefully we will see more women at the next one going over their (and men as well, we are talking about something truly exceptional) limit!
She just failed for the 2nd time and hasn't completed more than 1 loop. Her temp blindness happened at another race, not Moab. Stick to whatever it is you actually know about...
No more lies and excuses. No woman ever finished the Barkley Marathons because women are not resistant enough compared to men. During olympic games, the men and the women are not competing together, otherwise, women would stop gaining golden medals. This is a fact.
Not sure why anyone would have to debate anything considering it's an equal opportunity race regardless of sex, and any human who finishes becomes one of only a couple dozen other humans in the world
Correct. Like 99.99% of the population, I’ve never completed the course. Kind of a strange “insult”. That was never up for debate. I’m the person conducting the interview. Wishing you the best in all of your future races.
Her finish does not add up though. How did Jasmine beat all those men? If she finished under 65 hours then I would believe it, but to finish the toughest challenge ever under 60 hours and just minutes behind the male finishers? It does not make physiological sense.
Is 20 miles loops 5 times to finish in 12 hours each, so you need to keep a constant 1.6mph for 12 hours. This is not a race where the fastest wins, is not about speed. Is about physical an psychological stamina. Talking about speed, in the same category men and women are different (17 minutes difference between the men and women marathon world record in the olympics) but this is a different sport. Is so hard that every second count
@@matthewlevine2159 The most she has done is three laps before. That is still impressive but to go from that to five laps in under 60 hours is unbelievable, plus she had very difficult orienteering to do supposedly on her own in the final lap. Not only did she become the first female finisher with a nail biting 90 seconds to spare, but the winner was a Ukrainian Canadian who ran it for the first time. Now what a woke result. What a coincidence. And they shove some repeat winners in there too to make it look legit. No wonder Laz threw in the towel after that race.
Moliminous it takes endurance to endure labor. Giving birth is the end result. In my case it was 24 hours of labor. Only 30 minutes of pushing. Pushing child out was the easy part.
Half our population is designed to give birth and about half of them will give birth with limited complications in their lifetime. Not a real accomplishment.
+ Elizabeth Day Maybe what's too much medical intervention? The fact that most people will give birth without complication? You make zero sense. Most animals give birth without complications too. Is a dog pushing out a litter of puppies more amazing than people who run 60 hours straight with their heart rate at 80% nearly the entire time? Also, it's "you're" not "your." More proof you probably shouldn't be allowed to have kids.
Moliminous ,, Humans are actually designed to run very large distances, in fact as a species we outdistance every animal on this planet (in terms of running on land). check the 'Endurance Running Hypothesis' for some more info.

@@OANoel I am sure she will try again. This year no one has finished more than 2 loops
@@simonvictor8480 Jared injured his ankle that year, just saying.

Let’s be honest here ladies…the achievement was half his. Behind every good woman is a man who said she can’t 😂
😂😂😂😂
can't even be mad at him tbh
Pipe down ladies or prove him wrong!
This didn’t age well Laz ❤ Go Jasmin!!!! Please don’t ever under estimate us 💪🏼
Wait, Laz also said Jasmin was going to be the only one able to do it.
What he (and I think everyone who loves pushing the limits) wants is to see now even more women going and try to make it. When you have a figure to follow everything can change, so hopefully we will see more women at the next one going over their (and men as well, we are talking about something truly exceptional) limit!
Guess he underestimated the majority except for the unicorn 38-39 years and 19 male finishers and 1 female finisher
Aren’t the competators mostly male?
I meant to say ratio
I hope Lia Thomas comes and proves you wrong....lol.
..... so..... a man? To prove him wrong? Please explain how that would prove him wrong.
O rly? 🙃🙃🙃

Just wait for courtney dauwalter is coming. Fucking beast. Won moab 240. Almost blind at the end. Check the Joe Rogan show
CD: 0-1.
She just failed for the 2nd time and hasn't completed more than 1 loop. Her temp blindness happened at another race, not Moab. Stick to whatever it is you actually know about...
He got proven wrong🤣

I mean men can barely finish.
thats the point
@@Cornhubplus you missed mine
@@ryanjoneskywho knew 100 miles was hard but hey 19 men and 1 woman ain’t a bad amount
One will...
No more lies and excuses. No woman ever finished the Barkley Marathons because women are not resistant enough compared to men.
During olympic games, the men and the women are not competing together, otherwise, women would stop gaining golden medals. This is a fact.
Why do women regularly beat men in ultra runs?
Don’t have a Men’s comp anymore, just have an open comp in all sports. Then a women’s comp. No dispute about any prize money.
@@alcoholyayou’re not comparing apples to apples. Elite men vs elite women the men will win . It’s. It even close . Just let it go already .

Which part the part where he says he would be so excited to see it happen?
And Jasmin Paris say hold my beer.....
I guess you didn’t hear him say he would be so excited when it happened.
Whether the PC world likes it or not, there are differences between and women, physiological and psychological.
I hope a trans woman finishes all 5 laps. Then the debate can really rage on. Lol
Not sure why anyone would have to debate anything considering it's an equal opportunity race regardless of sex, and any human who finishes becomes one of only a couple dozen other humans in the world
This dudes in a race? Lol
He is the Race Director dummy.
He invented this race before you were born sonny. Sit down and read a book.
Have a trans woman compete
dude is a great troll lol
Jasmin didn’t do to prove you wrong…..she did it for herself. Laughing no more old timer.
Seems that you don’t quite understand Laz or the Barkley.
@@mikescott7307 seems like use presume, but thanks for mansplaining, I’m sure you completed the course plenty of times, oh wait……nope!

And this year it took 59 1/2 hours for the only one to finish...
Half our population is designed to give birth and about half of them will give birth with limited complications in their lifetime. Not a real accomplishment.
Skopar Weaver maybe too much medical intervention and not enough letting the body do what it knows best. try being a woman for one day. your clueless.
+ Elizabeth Day
Maybe what's too much medical intervention? The fact that most people will give birth without complication? You make zero sense. Most animals give birth without complications too. Is a dog pushing out a litter of puppies more amazing than people who run 60 hours straight with their heart rate at 80% nearly the entire time?
Also, it's "you're" not "your." More proof you probably shouldn't be allowed to have kids.
Not another I gave birth so I can do anything argument.
I wonder if that cigarette smoking dude has ever run it?
he was a very good distance runner in his prime you know nothing squirrel .
Yes... but got wounded as soldier
He has admitted he has never finished
there has gotta be a woman that can prove to him women are tough! we give birth so, we have the endurance to finish this race!
Elizabeth Day hey you're cute.
Elizabeth Day lol you're designed to give birth, not to run 100 miles, heck no one was lol
Moliminous ,, Humans are actually designed to run very large distances, in fact as a species we outdistance every animal on this planet (in terms of running on land). check the 'Endurance Running Hypothesis' for some more info.
