That's interesting. Teledata was accessible on our analogue TV signal nationwide in South Africa until about 5 years ago, although the system itself had mostly not been updated for some time.
TV1 became SABC3, and is still broadcasting on analogue VHF channel 13 - the same one thatʼs been running since 1976. It will be turned off on June 30, 2022.
Interestingly, I believe Teledata was accessible on SABC2 until just a few years ago (about 2018) - until the beginning of DTT. They were still updating the news headlines and TV schedules until the end, although lots of the other information was years out of date.
@@Mjwara you're right, and TV1 Became SABC2 and CCV Became SABC1. I would say that TV1 Became SABC1 because the channel domain or signal is still the same, it's just that the programmes moved to the other channels.
Fantastic memories.......thanks.
Hehehe this is Neat! In America they only had teletext on some local community cable channels back in the 80's & 90's

Yep, channel is definitely TV1 - that was the only one with Teledata back then.
so this would be like the BBC's Ceefax but from SABC?
Yes, I believe the SABC copied some of the BBC's Ceefax features when it was implemented in South Africa.
@@RSA_VHS that's interesting then
Demonic possession takes over at 3:00
The presenter switches from English to Afrikaans at this point, as the radio station was bilingual.

TV1 became SABC2 in 1996, and Teledata ceased operations in 2000.

NNTV is what became SABC3, not TV1.

In terms of content, SABC1 took shows that were on CCV. SABC2 took shows that were on TV1.
