It's nice to hear from guys from back in my day, I started driving in 1963, and still have my CDL and move specialized machinery all over the country. I'm originally from Texas which is where I started, My first truck was a D model Mack truck with a 5X4 transmission.
This never gets old. I have watched this so many times and still laugh my ass off. Sent this link to lads I know back in Ireland and they love it. Billy Jack is born storyteller.
thanks for watching! have you listened to the podcast on audio platforms. Lots more episodes there. We have had a lot of life lately and difficult to do any recording. hopefully we will be able to pick back up in the near future. But seriously, thanks for the support. take good care.
in 1979 our friend bought a cobra base station radio with a lollypop microphone(a D-104). a 1/2 wave antenna on a 20' tower. sometimes he would broadcast himself doing bong hits on the airwaves! it was sooooo clear that I can still hear it today!...especially his coughing!.....good times.
The art of spinning a good yarn is alive and well here on the Steady At The Wheel podcast! No matter what the topic, a skilled storyteller can intrigue an audience and keep them listening……..and that’s exactly what I’ve been finding here week after week. 👍 Great jobs gents!!
Well, I used to be a driver trainer for about 10 years for a company and you talk about mentor people this day and age they could care less about learning a job. It’s all about the money and when they find out there ain’t no money in it. They can’t wait to get out of it.🤣😎👍
The older guys always have the best stories ! I really enjoy the old timers telling stories at work about how construction used to be before the government and sissies got involved
The best stories, totally agree. I almost felt a bit sad recording this episode because the things they experienced probably can't happen now. So much richness in those older guys lives.
You need to do another of these. They are great. I am 80 so I remember the old livestock haulers. I still drive 5 over but when I see a bull hauler in my rear-view mirror I pull over because I know they are doing 15 over. especially between Bridgeport and Chadron.
Thanks for listening/viewing. We have plans to have another sit down with Billy Jack and Rooster, probably this spring. To many good stories to let go untold! There are a couple other old Wheelers that used to drive with these two we are trying to track down as well. Keep an eye out for them.
Surprised Jax was able to finish. He was gasping for air a few times. Some of the most animated Luke has been too. Great episode. Love hear hear more stories with Billy Jack
What great stories I am in California hauling cars and your stories just make my day my favor !!!!! U guys make my day go by fast !!! Thank you and great job guys in what u doing !!!!
I live above you guys in Alberta. Love driving through the hot sweltering southern lands of Montana. Great to hear stories about local life. You have beautiful country down there. Thank you so much for bringing this podcast and all episodes. I can't stop listening to them. If you guys didnt record this so much of that old timer wisdom, humour, and lore would be lost!
This was for sure our favorite to record...maybe because we basically just got to sit and laugh!. Yeah, we will for sure get Billy Jack and Rooster back on together. Thanks for listening!
Awesome story's guys! Brought back some great memories for me. I stopped hauling hogs and cattle back in 1990. I started in 1977 pulling a hopper, and a little drop deck from time to time. I kept trucking till 2015. I was blessed to truck the whole us, and most of Canada. I look forward to a lot more of these! Thanks to all of you!
This was amazing. I’m a fourth generation owner/operator. I wish I had the stories my dad, grandpa, and my late great grandfather had. Just like your dad and his buddies. I consider myself so lucky to have grown up around truckers from this generation.
@@steadyatthewheel I don’t know if it’s possible, or something you guys would even consider, but…have y’all ever thought about doing a sort of “call in” show? This was hilarious, I loved the stories. Drove for West Best long time ago, so I know the Lolo Pass and Hiway 12 route really well over to Lewiston, Id. Back Hauled grain into Lewiston in double dry vans with small side doors for loading. Ask Rooster or Billy Jack, or yourself Jaxson did you ever run into a guy named Ernie Kellogg? Ernie being an old bull hauler, I don't think this guy knew what sleep was, one of the hardest running drivers I ever met.
Man forgot your clothes I feel ya👊 brings back some bad memories of my mom forgetting to put my clothes in my suitcase before dropping me off at school to go to science camp and she forgot all my clothes in the dryer 😅 so uh I had to finish the week out with just the clothes on my back and I will never forget my class mate Jeremy gave me a pair of sweats and a shirt so at least I had two outfits for the week boy was I screwed up and so embarrassed I ate alon after everyone else ate and didn't go to any of the events. I called home for her but long story short her voices told her she couldn't drive that far alone so I'll just have to deal with it🤯 boy did that build some confidence lol 6th grade was the last time she touched my laundry 👊🤣😎
Russ is Billy Jack's younger brother. I think it was mentioned, but quickly. There was so many stories in here that came fairly quickly that we are planning on a couple episodes to go back through this episode and provide some context and further information about things. Who Russ is is a great example.
Also, Rooster's name is Russ. Bit confusing because there were two Russ's referenced in the podcast. The only time Billy Jack's brother Russ is mentioned is the story about drying off with the stained towel. All other references to Russ is Rooster.
