6:18 How can a riff be that good?
Sounds a lot like the main riff from Hole in the Sky
6:36 Another good un
Ozzy is still alive and kicking, Tony Iommi is still playing like a boss, and Geezer Butler is still my favorite bass player to this day.
I love how you praise Tony and Geezer for their geinus talent nad Ozzy for managing to be alive :D :D
This song rules !! Sounds exactly like Sabbath from the 70s.
Much, much better than Thunder struck.....
So, God is alive!
What about the drummer
@@damf5488 that's exactly what I'm wondering, like what about bill ward lol
Its amazing how, with Metal having evolved and grown so diverse in the last 40 years, Sabbath releases a new song and blows 90% of it out of the water. Genius is timeless.
damn right, well said; nuf' said.
Because it's real music . Most metal doesn't even feel like music. This is real dark music.
Maceta amen to that! so dark so heavy. how the fuck does geezer write the way he does!?
Maceta that's just how it works. As time goes by things always get more diverse not just metal but everything, this is partly due to acceptance of things and less strictness. Something easy to remember that's appliable to mostly 1st world countries
Maceta more things to be influenced by means more diversity
Ozzy originally wanted the lyrics to be a lot darker and anti religious more in line with Nietzsches world views but then Geezer Butler was all like "But half of us are catholic! We can't make a song with anti religious undertones!" so they changed the whole song to be about questioning Nietzsches statement "God is dead" and added a ? at the end too make it a question rather than a statement. True story. Still an awesome song though.
Half of them? who of them arent cathollic?
TakeTo TheShadows Ozzy- "I was at somebody's office and there was a magazine on the table and it just said the words 'God Is Dead.' And I suddenly thought, with 9/11 and all these terrorist things in the name of religion and how many people have died [because of] religion, when you think about the tragedy that's happened throughout time, it just came in me head. You would think by now their God would stop people [from] dying in the name of. So I just thought, people must think there ain't no God, God is dead. And it just hit me. And I just started singing 'God is dead' [when I was laying down] rough vocals [in the studio] and Geezer gave me the lyrics about it.
Geezer is the lyricist in Black Sabbath," he continued; "I wrote a few sets of lyrics, but he's the main lyricist. I come up with the ideas and he fills the blanks in. At the end of the [song], there's still a bit of hope, because at the end, I sing, 'I don't believe that God is dead.' It's just a question of when you see something dreadful like people killing each other with bombs and blowing tube trains or the World Trade Center, you think people must go, 'There is no God.' [But] it's a load of B.S., you know."
TakeTo TheShadows Tom Araya, the singer and lead songwriter for Slayer, is a devout Catholic. That's never stopped him from using a pentagram in the band's logo and writing songs like "Altar of Sacrifice", "Jesus Saves" and any of their songs dealing with serial killers, because he knows he can separate his beliefs from his lyrics.
Geezer just needs to learn to relax. (Though I agree, the song is still amazing; it's quickly become my favorite Sabbath song).
please read Nietzsche books before take superficially that statement i hate the lyrics because that statement is not about being dark or satanic or hate god it is about god compassion and it was so compassive with the man that it kills him. And also just because it says that statement they put a nuclear explotion and the face of Nietzsche like a fucking fever dark man puking violet liquid !?
+TakeTo TheShadows I would have liked it to be a lot darker and anti-religious.....
Even in the modern days of heavy metal, which mind you is great, sabbath still hasn't ditched their original style. Good. Very good indeed.
+Ian Hoswell the doom style
Ian Hoswell you dont mess with shit when you sound this goid
I'm surprised that Ozzy can still rock at his age!
Toney Isaiah heavily processed studio vocals. it's a miracle the guy's even able to walk and talk.
@@vincentprakash4891 not sure if the vocals are processed because he still sings in some live shows fine
This is a group of senior citizens saying "Hey kid hold my beer, we will show you how it is done"
So fucking true
Love y'all crazy assed
“God is dead. God remains dead. And we have killed him. How shall we comfort ourselves, the murderers of all murderers? What was holiest and mightiest of all that the world has yet owned has bled to death under our knives: who will wipe this blood off us? What water is there for us to clean ourselves? What festivals of atonement, what sacred games shall we have to invent? Is not the greatness of this deed too great for us? Must we ourselves not become gods simply to appear worthy of it?”
― Friedrich Nietzsche

He was and still is my favourite edgelord
7:21
That original doom style, it's like the sound of metal itself.
Yep, sabbath invented it
7:21 the riff is pure metal and the bass is funky af I love it
Lost in the darkness
I fade from the light
Faith from my brother, my father, my maker and savior
Help me make it through the night
Blood on my conscience
and murder in mind
Out of the gloom I rise up from my tomb into impending doom
Now my body is my shrine
The blood runs free
The rain turns red
Give me the wine, you keep the bread
The voices echo in my head
is God alive or is God dead?
is God dead?
Rivers of evil
Run through dying land
Swimming in sorrow, they kill, steal and borrow
There is no tomorrow
For the sinners will be damned
Ashes to ashes
You cannot exhume a soul
Who do you trust when corruption and lust, creed of all the unjust
Leaves you empty and unwhole
When will this nightmare be over?
Tell me!
When can I empty my head?
Will someone tell me the answer?
Is God really dead?
Is God really dead?
To safeguard my philosophy
Until my dying breath
I transfer from reality
Into a living dead
I empathize with enemies until the timing's right
With God and Satan at my side
From darkness will come light
I watch the rain as it turns red
Give me the wine I don't need bread
These riddles that live in my head
I don't believe that God is dead!
God is dead?
Nowhere to run
Nowhere to hide
Wondering if we will meet again on the other side
Do you believe a word
Of what the good book says
Or is it just a holy fairytale and God is dead?
God is dead!
God is dead!
God is dead!
God is dead
Right!
But still the voices in my head
Are telling me that God is dead
The blood pours down
The rain turns red
I don't believe that God is dead
God is dead!
God is dead!
God is dead!
God is dead!
did anyone else hear something different?
no
Give me MORE wine I don't need bread :)
+Andrej Istomin hahhahaha
StringRamblerBale *my father, my brother edit pls. Thx.
Man, people are going to think I'm taking this too far but this is in my opinion the best Black Sabbath song ever made, if this was released on Paranoid or Master of Reality it would blow any other track on those albums out of the water.
+CanisCanemEdit I would argue if it´s the best or not. But defenetely, had this been released on those albums, it would be a classic hailed as much as War Pigs.
+CanisCanemEdit agreed,i had master of reality on vinyl when it was released. i cant get enough of this. i listen two to 4 in row each morn. i love sabbath and have since 1974
+CanisCanemEdit I agree. I have all the early stuff and this stuff blows me away. God is Dead sung live would be amazing. Tony Iommi at his best.

"Do you believe a word, what the good book says? Or is it just a holy fairytale and God is dead?"
Geezer Butler could be a builder given the precision with which he hit that nail on the head.
God is dead!
The bass on this is insane..🔥🔥
Do you know how to play it? Please send me the audio

but it's brand nu dammit nu metal

Riddle me this....how,after all these years, can Iommi still come up w so many damn good riffs?
My husband is christian and I'm atheist. We're brazilians and he don't speak english very well.
I always listen this music at home and one day he asked me:
"What this song is saying about god? It's not saying that god is dead, is it?".
I answered:
"Of course not! The song is saying that god is THERE".
He believed for a while lol.
They are so old and can still make grade A. killer music.

This is without a doubt by far my favourite Black Sabbath Song
Long Live Black Sabbath!!! a fan for over 40 years..sing it Ozzy
also got a new jackson bass today, to sound like geezer lol rock on !! LongLiveSabbath!!
This album is awesome, it ranks up there with some of Sabbath's best.
Everybody who thinks this song is pro atheist has no clue about the lyrics or black sabbath in general
unfortunatly it isn't, not completely
.
It is neither pro Atheist and against Atheism, it describes the mental confusion, about weather God is dead or not. It is open to interpretation. However you're right in that is not at all endorsing Atheism, but it does raise questions.
Wether
Anyone who thinks a famous group of anything is going to openly support Atheism is very likely to be incorrect. It's improbable considering they would be risking to lose a lot of fans, specially in this genre where you usually find people who still believe in some form of magic and other superstitions, often amongst those who like to call themselves "goths".
Long live Black Sabbath
This is actually like my second favorite Sabbath song.
Ok.. I'll be the one to ask it
...?
God isnt Dead he's probably in this chair rockin with this song lml
+Bob Le you dont exist
+Bob Le Based on your comments, you harbour only resentment toward those who disagree with you.
I never once mentioned my beliefs. For all you know I could be a vehement anti-theist. I made an objective observation and shared it with you. You`ve only gone on the offensive towards anything you don`t agree with, even if it was obviously a joke.
Don`t accuse people of not having a brain if you aren`t able to prove you have one either.
+Bob Le 100% agree
Ozzy's a Christian (Anglican), his music is dark and makes people think.
This is far from offensive.
Yeah the band shows the dark side of everything like even the name black sabbath isn’t satanic it’s just showing a dark side to Christianity and so on so on it doesn’t mean they aren’t Christian though

that's funny - cause this song is about a follower who refuses to believe God is dead

This song has earned a grammy !
Excellent show and the sound was crystal clear. Seen kids from 5 yrs old to adults 70 yrs old. No fights, everyone was polite, and Sabbath kicked ass at the DTE Energy Music Theater. Paranoid for the last song as I suspected it would be.
Thank you Sabbath! But I kept smelling skunks all concert long, big time!

Great Song from the band that would not die...
Hail Sabbath !
Ozzy's voice sounds the best that it ever has, IMO. Might be kind of a controversial opinion but he sounds great here.
This song is really interesting in its lyrics and really well-composed. I love it.

Your pic show your hapiness
Same here! I was sitting on one of the lower balconies on Tony Iommi's side :b
You two are so lucky.
Geezer Butler wrote 95% of the lyrics to Sabbath songs. Ozzy has proven to be awesome as his own. And Tony Iommi practically invented metal. So why the fuck would you people want to ruin an awesome song by bitching about the lyrics. Its not religion based. It is enjoyment.
These lyrics are my every day prayers now.
It's depressing that so many people absolutely missed Nietzsche's point so utterly and completely.
its the same people that dressed up like little witches and went to sabbath concerts, thinking they're onto something.
what is point of FN in your opinion?
It's saf we still listening to such fool
@@czernm20 The point with the "God is dead" quote is explicitly warning against what will rise in the absence of "God" (by which he means the religion of Christianity itself), nihilism, amorality, etc.
@@jungkinoid8706 Clearly shown by his principles of overcoming the nihilism and more becoming a Ubermensch.
As a Christian I love this song the story of a man going through bad things and debating his faith is excellent and it’s all capped off with the final line “The blood pours down the rain turns red I don’t believe that God is Dead” a nice representation of one overcoming Satans lies and trickery and keeping their faith excellent song and some of the best lyrics Sabbath ever wrote which is saying something combine that with a classic Iommi riff and you’ve got a classic Black Sabbath tune.
Pioneering rock theater and pure musicianship is what made Black Sabbath one-off legends that many borrowed from, copied and followed. Strains of their beats and themes reverberate through heavy rock even today. Like the genre or not, the talent and legacy is staggering and undeniable!
Seen them twice on the last month taking my total up to 3. Hopefully there's a lot more to come. Amazing as always. This album is a credit to the band.
Amazing tune.... Amazing voice....!
Love listening to this every Easter. (:

Ozzy... I hope you are well atm and I hope everything will be good in the end. I'm from Romania and I listen to a lot of music, almost any style of music as long as it is art. Thank you for your music, you are a SPECIAL SOUL in this world. Im 33 y old and i listened to Black Sabbath for a few years until now. In the last 2 or 3 years I began to listen to old music from 70-80 etc and I discovered incredible stuff like Bob Marley, Black Sabbath, Ministry, etc...at this age I begin to understand your songs a lot better...God is dead? is one of the top 3 rock songs in our lifetime...no matter what age we are in. Thank you.

Way to go, Ozzy.
He got it right, God is not dead.
+Robert Cunningham Interesting that people interpret the song that way, considering the obvious Nieztche influence in the lyrics. In particular, how do you interpret the third verse to be anything but a criticism of Christianity? As for the chorus, consider that "I don't believe it" is something people say upon the realization of their belief of that thing. The loudest proclamation in the entire song is the repeated "God is dead!" right before the solo, and it's the only time in the song that he's not being told it by something else.
They did an interview with black sabbath, the whole idea of this song is to say that god is not dead.
Again, Saltpeter, attributing your Godless biases towards Black Sabbath. How quaint.
Go listen to After Forever man.
1, salt you need to really relisten to the lyrics, he clearly says i dont beleive that god is dead

One of the best wrote songs Ever !!!
People need to stop saying that there's no question mark in the title. Ozzy believes in god and so does the rest of the members of Black Sabbath.
Who the hell you think you are? Ozzy obviously doesn't believe God. Based on all his songs yea he doesn't believe it. Also dont assume what he believes. But I know that Ozzy Osbourne doesn't believe in God. You need to go listen to the rest of his music. Then you will get it right.

I can't believe how much this sounds like 70s Sabbath, its like theres no style change or anything, its a real true back in time trip, I wasn't born until 1993 but I grew up with all the 70s bands and this is something special.
