The context of what is happening in the country is just as important. The country is on a downward spiral and isolating expenditure in one sector makes little sense. Mr Khumalo must do and spend money allocated to his organization but the timing of this deal is not great. Pity also to learn that the acting CFO has interests in a company earmarked to make R31 million from this deal.
This deal tastes like the R22 million flag saga, the idea is admirable but ill timed for a country that can’t keep lights on. This organization also has too many actors in the executive….Acting CEO, acting CFO, the numbers chiskop also acting….🚩🚩🚩🚩

Now that's how government is suppose to respond to the public. I am actually proud of The South African Tourism. Feasibility of this return is debatable but a plan nonetheless. How many of our government structures tend to share plans, let alone DEFEND THEM?

With bad PR from local and international media SOUTH AFRICA needs a STRONG TARGETED PR type of marketing.

The Auditor General says to us that in Tshwane we have an issue of R30 Billion that cannot be accounted for by the DA-led administration, yes not R30 Million, but R30 Billion. Then we also have a National Department of Tourism saying to us that it is thinking of dedicating a figure of R1 Billion towards boosting the tourism industry, of course with an expectation of making a profit from the deal. Bizarre enough the first story that pertains to the R30 Billion doesn't make any news, neither does it attract front pages of our newspapers, contrary to the second story that continues to make headlines so much that even Johan Rupert also had his views to share. Some went to the length of preposterously suggesting that we could have used the R1 Billion to resolve Eskom predicaments, but what about the R30 Billion? We are rapidly degenerating into a very strange society.

With all that has been said by the CEO, there still is no explanation as to why Tottenham Hotspur and not Westham for example, why a billion rand and not R50 million, wat he has done is to flood the media with additional out of context information. Additionally, we clearly don't agree and should count for something. Wat are other countries spending to achieve the same objectives. The city of cape Town for instance attracts visitors from far and wide without this type of reckless spending.

Maybe share some money with SAP to make the country secure and fix the services electricity and water!!
No tourists will come to visit dangerous country that has no water..... This is just an example of how disconnected these Ministers and their departments are from reality. Get this country SAFE so the foreign embassies tell their citizens it is safe to visit South Africa. [Remember US tourist killed near Kruger in December 2022] This smooth explanation on why you want to spend one Billion to make hopefully 88 billion fails to address the fundamental issues of SAFETY, and Services..... South Africa it the 5th MOST dangerous Tourist destination in the world.... what about that??? Fix you house and the tourists will come.... no smart talking will make them feel safe.

No real facts to bolster a weak, and highly suspect, project. It is a GIVEN that tourism makes a huge contribution to employment growth, economic growth and more. But, you can fund TEN English soccer teams, if you do not fix the fundamentals such as containing rampant crime (we are a very, very violent country as the latest statistics show), returning Eskom to a fully functional utility, repairing our infrastructural deficiencies, unless we do this, the BEST you will do is the historical high and not more. And, believe me, seeing teams play in Emirates or Etihad branded gear does not induce me to fly with those airlines. I seek the best price, the most bang for my buck. As a tourist destination, right now, South Africa does not tick the boxes.

Tourism budget is neccessary but this is unsustanable missapropriation of fundS. You can do far much better sustainable spending on local international influencers with targeted audiences whose hearts are already leaning to wards SOUTH AFRICA thus building two industries while creating opportunities for SOUTH AFRICANS.
With bad PR from local and international media SOUTH AFRICA needs a STRONG TARGETED PR type of marketing.

If I was the President of South Africa, I would tell the tourism board that they must move forward with the implementation of the strategy but, they must use their retirement savings to finance the strategy. When the strategy becomes successful, the state will compensate them for all the money which they have spent on the strategy.

When I see "visit Rwanda" on the Arsenal fc shirt I am not persuaded to do that. Yet I can afford to. Instead I've traveled to other destinations..yet strangely, this concept is presented to be the one genius solution to tourism marketing. Khumalo and board are gambling here. The plan is bury the gamble in business detail. When the fact is South African international appeal does not evaporate if we scrap this.

He is right in terms of what he needs to do with the budget allocated to his portfolio.
The question is why does so much of our budget go to such activities when the country has more pressing needs like stable electricity supply. Whats the use of getting potential investors when we cant even keep the lights on for a full day in 2023?
These questions must go to the treasury department and finance minister.

Because this initiative will bring the return unlike the money that will be given to Eskom and end up not paid back because we are not willing to pay for anything in this country at least tourists pay for their hotels and travelling around the country and the country gets something from them we are the part of the Eskom problems.
