The Christians you speak of are Assyrians and speak Aramaic. We are descendants of the Assyrians and Aramaeans mentioned in the Bible. Midyat is a part of historical Assyria. We have been Christians for two millenias, but our people is older than Christianity. The museum you visisted was once the home of the Assyrian local leader Brahim Shabo (1904-1956+) who was a human rights defender. The reason we left, as you say, was because of the genocide that the state and local Kurds committed in 1915. The name Shahmaran mentioned in the video has nothing to do with the history of Midyat. Kurds came to Midyat only in the middle of the 19th Century, and they were a minority there up until 40 years ago. History must be recognized, and ofcourse it is wonderful to see that peoples on the ground now live in peace.
Thank you for your insight and clarification. I believe Shahmaran, evolved from the Persians and her image is sold in stores in Midyat and Mardin. As I have learned, the history of this region is deep and complex. Thank you for adding to my knowledge of this beautiful part of the world.
Best video thankyou very much my friend
Thank you very much Yalçin
