  • So....it feels like we may have a breakthrough in the sickness situation and birds seem to be improving overall.
Also, some details of the first few birds from Race 1 which took place last weekend.

Try to drill holes behind in the loft at the bottom , there is air coming in and nothing going out , in SA ventilation is the main issues causing the sicknesses if your ventilation isn't correct you wont get rid of your problem easily

Thanks for the tip. I used to swear by deep litter and it's great when it's all dry and things are working but when this happens it does cause problems. Think I am going to change it in next few days. Thanks for the kind words about the videos.

In SA we prefer long distance families because they can race from short to long distance 280km-1100km

Hi @Racing Pigeon world. I dont know what things your club do to try an combat ybs i can only speak for my own club an one thing we do is each fancier pays for a basket an only there own pigeons go into that basket. It might be worth giving it a go in your club to see if that helps

This is the very best idea. I also think that they should have everyone in the club treat their birds at the same time so that all of the race birds are as healthy and clean as possible. Why not!

Yeah I think this is defo the way forward. The mixing of the birds is 100% what causes the problems

I personally hate deep litter John... my OBS and YBS were scraped twice daily every day (my old man was regimemtal in every aspect of pigeons and to him cleanliness was godliness) young birds don’t have to mix to catch YBS as plenty get it without their birds having ever seen another bird (so that’s a fallacy ) they tend to get it after a race as that’s when they are stressed and YBS comes on at points of stress (that’s why I used elderberry when I weaned them (stress time) basket training (stress time) and double dosed on basket night for first race and all week on return (mega stress time) I Never got it again after year 2000

I’ve cleaned one section out totally and it does feel better. I can see what’s going on with the droppings immediately.

@@racingpigeonworld8879 far better in my opinion as to me deep litter is a breeding ground for disease but hey each to their own as some fly well on it.... but are they big treaters?

Thanks for the comment. It’s 100% something from mixing in the race baskets. Then it just takes so much time to get them right again afterwards. I had it last year but nowhere near this bad.
Glad you’ve enjoyed the channel so far

I know a bloke in the North East who fly's excellent year on year who only ever pairs long distance to sprint birds. Never sprint to sprint etc . He also ALWys breeds at least 1x yb off his racers even if he culls ithem at the end of the season . He constantly tells me his best yb's come from racers that he's lost before the OB season ends.
I know ur sick of hearing about YB sickness but over the years I've found , first sign of it get the dope in the water and then starve them for 2 days. That means they've no corn to bring up when they're sick. This means the others can't eat any regurgitated corn. It stops/ slows the disease through the rest of the birds. 3rd day 6 beans each. Its harsh and u feel guilty coz they're stsrving but it deffo helps. Good look ..

@@racingpigeonworld8879 the man in question gets brothers and sisters to win from 60-500 miles . If u don't know - the prep and especially the feeding for sprint or Distance is like chalk and cheese.
It's the same for humans , 100m runners and marathon runners eat sleep and train different.
