PolarMaths, I can tell you that the Colonial Williamsburg garrison regiment would have worn red, as back then the fifes and drummer wore the opposite colors of their unit. They wear red coats with blue facings and the armed infantry would wear blue coats with red facings. Just saying that they do not represent the British. And also the allied powers did not form until the mid 19 hundreds.

PolarMaths right and within the larger point you could say the coalitions against revolutionary and imperial france were the start of the allies. But I guess I was more thinking of the period that France and Britain have been fighting on the same side, which is really since the Crimean war although I wouldn’t consider that to be any variant of the allies since it included the ottomans

Actually, it wasn't. It was originally composed 1809 for a member of the House Habsburg-Lothringen, Joseph Anton Johann, Archduke of Austria, who was the so-called "Palatine" of Hungary at the time, and called "Erzherzog Anton Marsch" (Archduke Anton March). However, in the very same year, it was relabeled as march for the bohemian "Landwehr". On 1813, it was then rededicated to Ludwig Yorck von Wartenburg and has been known as "Yorkscher Marsch" or "Marsch des Yorkschen Corps" since. Yorck had become famous not the least for signing the Tauroggen Convention the year before against the wishes of his King, at the same time committing treason and launching Prussia into the wars of liberation.

During former times the german marching tempo was not 114 Bpm. Germany exist since 1871. The „prussian step“ tempo was about 60-70 steps per minute. In order to protect open flanks, the prussian military released the so called „Avancier Schritt“, it is faster and 114 Bpm. (I think this was during the 18 th century)
For example, the bavarian Defilier Marsch, composed by Adolf Scherzer in 1850 (before bavaria became a part of Germany) is about 109,5 Bpm. This march is now a part of the german (Bundeswehr) military march collection and an example for Avancier Marsch (normally 114 Bpm).
The (line) infantry tactics during the 17 th, 18 th and the first half of the 19 th century needed different marching tempos.
They began an attack with 60-70 Beats per Minute, then they accelerated to 96 Bpm, then to 120 Bpm ( quick time march, in germany „Geschwindmarsch“ or „Sturmmarsch“ or „Angriffsmarsch“) The fastest tempo for quick time is about 132 Bpm.
The 96/98 Bpm march is called „common time march“.
I have drum an fife ordinances (orders) from bavaria (Munic 1807). The marches are written in G Major key and the tempo is a) 88 Bpm and b) 100 Bpm (nearly 98).
In the second half of the 19 th century the whole infantry tactics changed, and the military didn‘t need the different tempos anymore during a battle.
Since that time, the german frequency is 114 Beats per minute.
The french foreign legion march tempo is still 88 Bpm.
