Absolutely. I'd love to get my hands on some of the cars I drove back in the day. They're not worth anything now, but the memories are priceless@@ink3539
Not just that, these cars are really important for society. Not everyone can afford a new car or if they can, drowning in a car payment can keep you from working your way up. A car like this would be perfect for a teen or young adult just joining the workforce, or someone down on their luck needing cheap transportation to get around to a job or wherever and provide for themselves or family.
That's awesome! Older cars are the best! Sometimes they are more reliable than newer cars i believe, they are more straightforward in function, and there seems there is less high tech stuff to have to deal with when it breaks! Love it!
@@scootytamra Oh yeah, any car can last a long time if properly maintained. I meant that cars back in the 1990s weren't built with as many standard safety features or technology as a car from today would. And the engines were less computerized and forced induction was still a rare thing to see on cars, so they were less economical. However with simplicity, comes reliability. Less things that can break!
The quality of the carpets and upholstery on what was a basic commuter car is astounding compared to the cars now. This car is cleaned out, and all set for someone to get a new start in life because of it - this is good stuff! ❤😊
I miss my 2000 Grand Am. She was the best HS Grad gift ever. Easy to clean and I could do some maintenance myself. New cars are so hard to work on and they will all look the same soon.
I have a suggestion: make a new channel or a new series of just saving cars from the scrap heap. These transformations are incredible and it’s really nice to see these cars come back from the brink.
I love beaters, for winter or not. And seeing you detail it makes it even better. An old beater that looks nice and new(ish) is always a nice little touch, and makes me happier.
This is a perfectly good car for someone. I enjoy seeing cars like this rescued far more than a supercar being detailed! Excellent work dude - and loving the guitar too
As a former car detailer i love watching your vids. Gets me back into the spirit of cleaning and detailing and wanting to get back out there and pretty up a car lol. I remember the most types of trucks i had to clean were duelies. I hated them but accepted the challenge of cleaning them. They helped me get better at detailing
This type of detailing is why I started watching car detailing to start with! Great job! Give us some more please but can you include more explanation about products that can be used in the outside painting to make look better 😊
There’s magic in your hands Mitch, that and years of experience. If anyone can resurrect this vehicle it’s you. This was highly entertaining! So glad you took this challenge on!
It makes me so happy to see another J-Body saved from the crusher. These are fantastic cars, very cheap but reliable. Their main downfall is the rear frame rails but you really can’t beat these old units. That 2.2 pushrod engine is literally bulletproof, I’d even go as far as to compare it to an Inline 6 engine in a Jeep. Too often people destroy these things just because they need a little work and they are disappearing at an alarming rate. This video made my day though to see this car get saved. Great job my friend.😄
This car brings me back to my childhood. So many people had these, they were cheap, abundant, great on gas and damn near bulletproof. You could run down to the junkyard and there'd probably be like 20 of these things with any part you could need. Wasn't uncommon to see these pushing 400,000km as they were the perfect highway cruisers. Most of them have rotten away to nothing at this point and the few still on the road are really clapped out now. This is one of the best I've seen in a long time.
Not gonna lie, really miss Pontiac. Also, a hilarious observation: the screws on your extractor almost remind me of eyes. It almost looks like it's gobbling up all of the dirt. So I was thinking, googly eyes on the extractor head would be even more hilarious.
There’s something so amazing about restoring the old cars. I can imagine being an adult in in 1999 or 2000 and this car being brand new, popular and all over the market. There’s never going to be cars again like 20-30 years ago
Great job saving that old Pontiac Sunfire Mitch! It's amazing what a little TLC and hard work can do. The interior came out so clean, and that engine bay looks fantastic now. It might not be showroom ready, but it's definitely ready for a new lease on life.
Good on you for saving this Sunfire. My mom had one years ago and it was the exact car I learned how to drive in, so there will always be a sweet spot for me with these cars.
These are the transformations we love to see; a $500 car looking like a Million Bucks! Not a million dollar car looking like, well, a million dollar car. As always, great work!
Sure brings back memories of detailing these cars when they were new. 😊 Not to mention the good times and memories with my Cavalier Z24. They were so much simpler and easier to work on too. As much I love my current car, there are days I’d give almost anything to drive that old “Z” again.
It's transformations like this that really keep me hooked on this channel! While I like seeing luxury SUVs and sports cars, I absolutely love it when you get in an "ordinary" vehicle... something more relatable, I suppose. Props to you and the work you put in, not only on this Sunfire but in everything you do! 😁
This is great man. Awesome to see a Junkyard save. I've saved many from the wreckers and have been blessed enough to get them back out on the road to lower income families to utilize.
Oh that sure cleaned up nice on the inside. Maybe someone will give it a new little paint job and some hub caps and keep it for many more years. You did a great job, Mitch!
Not done watching this video yet, but I can feel this car already going... ahhhhhhhhhhhh, thank you!!! :) Also I dig when you clean up a car that is more on my level of what I can afford. :)
I remember the Sunfire! My ex owned the cousin - the Chevrolet Cavalier, same year as this, I believe. Fun little cars, and I'm sure glad you saved this one from the junk yard.
For you younger people yes that is a window crank to roll the window up and down! Very nice work though Mitch you can tell how much pride you put into your work even if it is nearly impossible to look new again
Agreed and the quality of older cars is higher. My advice is classics and some neo classic cars and trucks. Either way you always come out on top. New cars don’t last more than 5 years before they are too ratty to drive
So glad to see this decent old "daily" not seeing a junkyard anytime soon. Based on the "PLATES EXPIRE NOV 30" sticker, I assume this car was used as part of a fleet. Possibly a loaner car at a "mom & pop" auto repair shop? I remember in the late 2000's/early 2010's, an autobody shop near me these old Sunfires as loaner vehicles.
This was the first of your videos I've seen in a good while, and I'm glad I caught this one. It's really special - my parents owned a '99 Chevy Cavalier, which is this car with different lights and bumpers. Bought new, did about twice as many miles as this pontiac, and soldiered on with no complaints. The seats weren't always the most comfortable, it wasn't very quick or fun in the corners, the interior plastics would've been more appropriate for a Fisher-Price toy... but it was a solid, economical, cheap family car. It took me home from grade school, took my mom to work, the family on road trips, the weekly grocery run, my sister learned to drive in it, I did the same. In all that time, while we tried to keep it clean, it never once in its life received this level of detailing. This video was a 28 minute long trip down memory lane, and from all of us that grew up in the back seat of one of these humble little "disposable" sedans: Thank you for helping to save this one.
I can't like this enough! Sunfires are such durable and joyful cars! Sure they're cheap and they rattle and wander all over the road but they'll always get you there and back!
Considering the age of this car, it's in much better shape than a lot of the vehicles you detail. No chewing gum stuck to the upholstery, no crayon drawings on the vinyl, no sticker adhesive stuck to the windows, no PlayDoh ground into the carpet. I think someone loved this car.
this makes me extremely extremely happy to see. my 1998 saturn car unfortunately had to be written off due to similar rough shape and the unrealistic repair costs. most people would send these cars to the junkyard as you saw..... but im just glad someone sees the potential beneath the rust

Yes - this car and the McLaren got the same treatment.

GMs always seem to have quality carpets fitted.
