Nope, it's not such a thing. If it was an experiment, they would try a new kind of music, their new sound is not something never seen. The style they're adopting right now isn't more than just a product demanded by the label they signed with, due to the american music market they're attempting to dive in (not only attempting, they must have already got into it). And I think it's a sad fact, because they are losing the japanese magic, their new songs don't have the old teen spirit, the energy and adrenaline, now it's all about having a fashionable good sound. They've lost the only thing that used to make them special :'( sorry for such a long comment...
I went to their lives in Saitama and Chiba and in both Taka spoke out about how OOR's music has changed. My Japanese is not great so maybe I misunderstood some points but in general, Taka said that nothing he hates more than doing the same thing again and again, so they will keep on trying something new (for them) and evolving their music. He also said that OOR is a band, not an idol group, so they make music for themselves, not for anyone else. Even if no one buys their album, even if no one comes to their live, no one can decide on what kind of music that they want to make. Though i can not tell whether he was being honest or not, but considering the members are not "loyalists" to rock in the first place, i think Taka's statement was at least 75% honest. I don't have any intention to argue with you guys, just want to share Taka's view since i am not sure he will ever address this in international forums.
