    Such an honest, genuine, and humbling press conference. No fingers to point, no mention of red decisions, pure appreciation of the opposition. The Red Roses ticked everything on their match day list, the performance, effort, attitude, just not the score line. Sometimes sport isn’t about what accolade you obtain, but the factors surrounding it. Although hard now, I think they can go away feeling like champions with the legacy they have left in the game.

    WOW, the Red Roses and their coaching team were amazing! Sarah, you are the ultimate professional in all areas of the game. Fantastic to watch and wonderful to listen to. As a Black Ferns Ferns supporter I am immensely proud of how the Black Ferns played and the result......but am also very aware that on any other day the result may have been totally different. The English team and management have been amazing!!! Let's hope for a replay match in 2023!! And i'll go further than Simon, in saying that that clash of heads took two of the best players out of the game...... whilst the rules make a distinction about deliberate acts of foul play and accidental ones, the consequences of each are too similar. To rule a player out for the entire game for an accidental clash of heads is paramount to ruining the game. Lets make those 'No malice' clashes a 20 or 30 minute red card....not the entire game!!

    • @MeanAzz_13
      @MeanAzz_13 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Disagree. Then you could potentially have *hitmen* targeting a *key player* by taking him out in a "accidental way" yet the key player suffers heavy concussion and is out of the game and the hitman gets to return 20mins later. Nah it will be exploited big time.

    • @justinmccullough6828
      @justinmccullough6828 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MeanAzz_13 Appreciate what you're saying, but realistically this rule of red carding head knocks is a very very recent phenomena. When NOT red-carding these events was the norm (almost the entire rugby history) there were very few incidents of the deliberate taking out of key players. I believe history proves that teams having 'hitmen' is not really a real concern.....and if the replay shows that to have happened...then an entire game red card is a totally acceptable option. But an entire game red card for a clearly accidental acts is in my opinion ridiculous and game destroying.

      In this case NZLs most *potent attacking weapon* played no further part in the game from that very head clash accidental or intentional, can't see how you can justify bringing the culprit back on after 20mins punishment when Woodman was gone all game, just doesn't make sense.

    We got the result that we wanted but it was such a shame for England that a player got sent off. I understand the ruling and our player was yellow carded for a slightly lesser offense but the same matrix was applied. I thought the standard of refereeing was top notch over the whole competition. England has to be congratulated on the way they played from a personal point of view and even from a tactical point of view. The Black Ferns had huge gaping holes in their positional play and basically threw the game away for most of the game through bad tactics and poor decision making. I am convinced that they would have won for sure if they played at full strength. That is the cruel side of the sport. I will always remember the English for what they put on show in New Zealand, RESPECT GIRLS. Congrats for the Kiwi girls. They still had to gather the points to win against a team that did EVERYTHING to stop them. The win for the Kiwis is made great by the quality of the foe. WELL DONE GIRLS !!!!!!!!! I support referees/officials but how far are we going to allow the TMO reach? I get foul play and try confirmation however when the ref called Ferns #10 touched the ball on that kick, lineout awarded then TMO highlighted it to which ref reversed it. For me that is how it rolls, you win some you lose some we can't have the game nitpicked further. I hate the red cards, we need 20 minute replacement for contestable contact.

    I believe the English Roses would have won that game if they hadn't had their player red-carded (its the rules, sux but there you have it). With 1 player down Black Ferns should have put two or 3 tries on them - but didn't. The standard play when the opposing team is one down, is for forwards to drive up the middle and force the opposing forwards to come close to defend....then spin the ball wide, where simple draw and pass would have given the overlap at least 70% of the time. Instead, we tried too hard to force play, and forwards kept getting isolated by running 1-2 steps too far away from their support. In essence, we played panicky rugby. But we got away with it. Still a brilliant game, and great for women's footy. Enjoyed more than the men's games.

      as the red carded incident took out Portia Woodman - the leading try scorer of womens rugby so if affected the BFs as well - if that card did not happen the BFs would have had Portia the whole game and the tries she potentially could have made - so your theory is based on your bias and not the full picture - i agree though womens rugby is far more entertaining than the mens

    • @gideonporter537
      @gideonporter537 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bodybalanceU2 14 versus 15 is simple math. It's not about Portia. With 15 on the field. England had the edge on us. England's game is based around their forward pack's lethality close to the line - and their overall team's defensive "wall" in other aspects. They too have some very, very good backs. Not as good as the BF's perhaps - but their win wouldn't have been based on that. And its not a theory, or bias. 99/100 a rugby team of 15 should beat a team of 14 if you have the advantage of at least half a game with an extra player. Which the BF's did.I say again, they shouls have played smarter footy by drawing in England's forwards and then running the ball wide. The one time they did - they scored. They should have been able to manage it 1-2 times more.

    It is impossible to distinguish the head clash with Portia Woodman from monumental incompetence or deliberate foul play. The removal of Portia Woodman, the worlds most potent attacking back on the planet was definitely worth a yellow and the risk of a red. Give credit to the RFU who have been properly funding the women’s game for a while, now. I’ve been going to Red Roses games for six years and it’s been clear for a long time that the game was rapidly becoming world class, and every bit as skilful, exciting, and intense as the men’s game. This year, I think, women’s rugby really came of age and became noticed by enough people to create a critical mass. It will only get better from here.

You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make it drink. I was ashamed of English rugby supporters, to be honest. They didn’t know what they were missing. Hopefully things will change now.

    I could weep for Sarah having to go through that. I still think it was a mistake taking her off that early - her leadership counts for so much. Considering how long England played one short, that was one hell of a performance. Well done and commiserations. Still slightly mystified why the NZ player who gave our winger a direct head shot didn’t get a red either. The only blemish on an otherwise excellent performance by the ref. Finally, congratulations, albeit through gritted teeth 😉, to NZ. As Simon Middleton said, sometimes it’s written in the stars.

      Agree but for that comment by the coach about the red card. That reply about the red card incident let the English effort down. I watch so much rugby and see lesser collisions red carded but can't remember a similar one being a yellow only. Sorry but he let his women and the final down.

      Put yourself in his seat , how would you respond ?

      @@tonyrata4796 yeah maybe a bit harsh, but he didn't say it was unfortunate and not deliberate, he said he has seen such head clashes not be given as a red card. My comment is, that he could have said that it was consistent with rulings throughout the tournament. Head on head with no deflection, or ball carrier ducking is and has all tournament been called red. The English player was not out to do harm as most aren't. We all want to see consistency and we did. He knew he'd be asked about it and should have been more professional with his response, we saw his players respond very professionally.

      You're right when you ask for consistancy , but I ask you ; when has sport ever truly been consistant ?
      The best that can be hoped for is that he realises he might have handled this in a better way and modify his responses in future .

      if they were professional; the number 14 shouldn't even try that tackle.... she made no attempt to wrap Portia Woodman as she just barged to her head to head contact; Black Ferns only converted two of their multiple tries they scored... the score would have been much higher if the tries is duly converted.
      no mitigating factor unlike Kennedy where it was shoulder hit then to the head (if Kennedy were to hit head to head like the England #14, then a red is needed)
