  • " You Light Up My life" was the biggest song of 1977, the biggest song of the decade of the 70s and set a record as the number one song on Billboard's Top 40 for 10 weeks in a row. But there was some behind the scenes drama with the recording of that song. She'll tells that story and much more.
    The Boone Family, like the Jacksons and the Osmonds made music together under the leadership of their dad; Pat Boone. That, plus a three generation legacy of music was the backdrop for Debby’s career. Jesus was, and still is a big part of her story and you'll hear it all in this episode of Amazing Greats.
    Joe Micheals this weeks guest host is a long time friend. We worked in radio together as teen agers and on into adulthood. He is a master voice talent, radio personality, and life long Catholic. He takes us on this Debby sBoone journey in a very special one on one conversation for Amazing Greats. Enjoy!

    I accidentally found this beautiful Interview which really LIGHT UP MY LIFE. I was Official Pat Boone Fan Club President in Hong Kong since 1957. Pat Boone came to Hong Kong many times and I had the honor to follow him (and later his whole family) to Japan in 1970 - 1980. I watched Debby grow up (in pictures as a baby, in person as a young singer as a Boone Girl, and later as a soloist). I still belong to her Fan Club nowadays, and teasure all the good old memories, and the records and photo albums.) Thanks for sharing, Amazing Greats is the greatest !

    Debbie...When I first became a christian at age 25, I walked into a christian bookstore determined to buy my 1st christian tape. I did not know one christian artist. Well, a song from your Friends for Life was playing in the backround. I thought I like this music and bought it. Ended up loving every song. Listened over and over again and was so uplifted. Thank you!!! I still listen to it. "So be like lights on the rim of the waters, giving hope in a storm sea by night" "Sincerely Yours" Lisa

    Here's my Debby Boone influence story. I was ten years old in 1977, a 5th grader when "You Light Up My Life" came out. It was so popular, that this girl brought the record to our Music Appreciation class. I recalled that for some reason even though I had no interesting the girl at all, though she did give me this unsettling feeling. We even had to sing this song at a school assembly as a class. Fast forward to a year later....that girl who brought the Debby Boone album used to look at me a lot and now I'm slowly falling for her as a 6th grader until I wake up one morning, totally sick to my stomach, singing "You Light Up My Life." Because I had so many negative issues, including low self esteem, I blew my chances with her and nothing ever happened, but not being able to be involved with her really hurt me since she was the first girl I fell for, and my life has been where I've really not been in love much. Frankly, I really had no really good things to say about "You Light Up My Life." I thought it was a cheesy joke of a song and I used to get really angry whenever I heard it. Well, Debby Boone came on a Sirius radio show this year and had some great selections for music. After that, I was at a free, take it section of a used record and book store, and Debby's 1977 album was there, so I listened to the song and have come to respect the song way more and even like it, and embrace it for its historical role in my young life. Then after finding the album, I was at a garage sale and came on her 1981 autobiography, and I bought it and read it....She really has an incredible story. I don't know why Debby Boone has become en vogue for me after all these years, but "You Light Up My Life" has really been coming into my sphere over 40 years after experiencing my first love. Ironically, the first girl I fell for so hard, well, her name means "shining light." I never got married, considered it just one time but it didn't work out, and am still single as of this writing. .

    Dear Debby, I saw your Dad, your Mom and You ! in the 70's, at Unisa, University of South Africa, Pretoria, I was sitting on the floor, front row, and your Dad teased me as I, a formal old fashioned Dutch Reformed member, wouldn't raise ? or clap ? my hands.. ( and you are a descendant of Daniel Boone, one of my childhood heroes ) I came from a Canadian/ American Mission Station in Angola..

    This was a lovely interview. And what a blessing to have been blessed w/the parents The Lord gave the Boone girls. SO inspirational. Perhaps it may not be until the other side of eternity, when Miss Debby will learn that her Dad’s belief about the Bible is Truth. It IS in fact historically correct. It IS the inerrant Word of God, and - despite its many human authors - it has been dictated by One: The God-breathed Word of The Living God.
    Aside from the over 300 prophecies fulfilled in the life of our Savior, Isaiah prophesied about kings of Israel long before those events took place. There are prophesies in Isaiah, Ezra and Chronicles of the role that the Persian monarch, Cyrus would play in the history of Israel, before he was born (and 150 yrs before he became king). These are all historical events which took place, not nursery rhymes. 😉
    Knowing of the skepticism of God’s Living Word that would abound, He offered these prophesies hundreds, even thousands of years before the events would be fulfilled, to lovingly prove the inerrancy of His Word. But people will continue to not get it. 🤷‍♀️

      She is so misguided.....i pray JESUS opens her spiritual eyes to the truth of God's word. When I first rec'd Christ her Christian albums were some of my favorites. While attending Bible College in Oklahoma in the 80's, I saw her in concert at ORU. She was performing with the awesome psalmist and piano player Marty Geotz....What happened after that only Jesus knows. But she's chosen to drink tinsel town's kool-aid....so sad, still love you girl.

    This poor woman is easy prey for the enemy if she minimizes the power of the Word of God. She needs to learn that her enemy will readily take advantage of her naivete if she won't wear the Armor of God and use the Shield of Faith and the Sword of the Spirit.
    I'm sure her father intercedes for all 4 of his daughters continually, but she has the responsibility to look to the Word of God in her living.
    Doesn't sound too promising if her husband has opted for man's religion. She needs a true prayer covering in her husband. Both need prayer.

    It's interesting that her oldest sister became Catholic with her husband, and Debby has gone Episcopal with hers. King Solomon doubted because of his wives. Why not be an Episcopal who believes in the literal truth of the Word of God?

      I saw an interview where her church has same sex couples and more. This is not scriptural. We surely are in the last days with this falling away from truth. We are to pray for the sinners, love justice and mercy not sin. So many churches changing to suit the culture. Many getting caught up in this Ecumenism of Rome and its rising one world religion. They need to reread Revelation chapter 17 and 18.

    • @intherockies

      @@ReadRomans10 , there's many more verses in the Bible to say Love one Another than there is about same sex marriage. Remember about 20 years ago when all the Churches thought blacks and whites shouldn't marriage. Funny how the Church learned that's not what God meant. One day you will realize that God is testing you to see if you are judgmental or if you love one another.

    • @ReadRomans10
      @ReadRomans10 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@intherockies what is your definition of love?

    • @ReadRomans10
      @ReadRomans10 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@intherockies .A common argument for the acceptance of homosexuality and same-sex marriage is that.. if God is love, He would not condemn the love of others. The main problem with this is what kind of “love” we’re talking about.
      First John 4:8 says, “Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.” The “love” referenced here is the Greek agape. This type of love is the conscious act of sacrificing one’s own desires, comfort, and even well-being for the sake of another. It is love that sent Jesus to die on the cross for our sins (Romans 5:8). And the love that led God to send Him (John 3:16). The greatest fulfillment of this love is to sacrifice one’s life for another (John 15:13).
      The question, then, becomes what constitutes the well-being of another? The world and maybe even our own sensitivities might say that to allow another to live in a homosexual relationship is to see to their well-being. The Bible says otherwise. Romans 1:26 says it is disgraceful and dishonoring. **First Corinthians 6:9 says it will keep a person from the kingdom of God. **
      First Corinthians 6:18 says that homosexual behavior is a sin against one’s own body.
      If this is true and homosexual behavior is dishonoring, a separation from God’s blessing, and self-harm, then the loving thing to do is to stay away from it. To encourage others to indulge in sin is to encourage them to reject God's blessings on their lives. It is the opposite of love.
      That being said, those with homosexual attractions are in desperate need of love. Even if they agree with the Bible that homosexuality is a sin and resolve not to seek fulfillment of their sexual desires, they must still find love in other relationships -the self-sacrificing love of agape and the friendly companionship of phileo. When our emotional and social needs for love are met, we are less likely to seek fulfillment in unbiblical ways. It’s no different for single heterosexuals than for those with homosexual attraction.
      Can someone with same-sex sexual attraction be healed and become heterosexual in thought, desire, and deed?
      It is possible, but it is not certain. Being saved and forgiven does not rid one of temptation. For the believer, as long as same-sex attractions are present, abstinence is crucial-as it is for anyone not in a heterosexual marriage. Believers should not condone sexual relationships outside of a heterosexual marriage, even as they show agape and phileo love.
      It is a lie that all humans need sexual fulfillment (Matthew 19:12). It is a lie that sex equates to love. The God who created us insists that sex is an expression of love between a man and woman who are married to each other. Outside of that context, sex is harmful and very much unloving. If we love others, we will not encourage them to sin, bringing harm to themselves. Instead, we will follow the greatest commandment and provide for them the real love they need from us.
