Is The 2023 Chevy Colorado The State Of The Art In Mid-Sized Pickups?

  • เผยแพร่เมื่อ 14 ส.ค. 2024
  • The days of American brands falling short in the mid-sized pickup market are over and the new 2023 Chevrolet Colorado is proof. It’s handsome, capable, comfortable and powerful. Plus, it’s affordable. The Trail Boss model with standard 4WD and off-road suspension is less than $40,000. Tom Voelk takes The Boss on road, off road, camping and exploring. Midsized trucks do some things better than full-sized rigs.

Thank you for pointing out that the headlight control isn’t the horrendous safety/convenience issue every other reviewer has made it. Leave it on auto and forget about it. I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve needed to manually turn my headlights on in the last 20 years.

Yeah, no. It's definitely an issue. If something falls under the purview of safety, it needs to be immediately and readily accessible without the operator even needing to move their head. PERIOD. If GM wants to save money lose the superfluous stuff like remote locking tailgate. Using your rationale of number of times needed would lead to brilliant ideas like putting fire extinguishers hidden in closets.

I feel lucky that I bought a 2021 with the V6. I get better mileage than the new 4, and that only gets better comparatively once it's under load. I give up torque but improve longevity and reliability. Chevy blew it when they got rid of the V6 just to appease journalists and popular opinion.
The new body style and interior are improvements visually, but I prefer my much more analogue WT with a pile of great upgrade. When my tires wear out I'll upgrade to a nice set of BFG's or the like for a little more off road capable look.
If only they would have kept the V6... with all that they got right, I may have considered a trade in scenario. But I think I'll just stick with what I have until the wheels fall off.

How the skid plates are extra are odd. Pretty cool overall. Land Rovers when they don't break have no performance problems. The new Land Cruiser is why I don't want a Land Rover. Once again. You can take a Land Rover into the Outback, but a Land Cruiser will bring you back.

    1) There is no way to manually turn on or off the headlights or the door locks.
So if the battery dies, the hood is locked, how do you open the door locks, so you can open the hood, so you can charge the battery?
2)The V-6 and the Duramax Diesel that were available in the previous Colorado are no longer offered in 2023.
Which engine is more likely to run over 250,000 miles the 4-cylinder or the Duramax Diesel?

GM isn't going to install a a special engine, it's T4 for the Colorado period. Same as the new Tacoma (with the option of hybrid boost). Also, I think it's smart that GM made the skid plates and rock rails optional. A lot of owners will want to put specific aftermarket pieces on their trucks. I was merely saying that if I were buying this for off-roading, I would put protection down there. And let's face it, a lot of people will buy this for looks alone, and never off-road it.

Thanks for the 10/10. But you do know this is supposed to be a base no frills off roader, right? I have the GMC AT4X right now it's it's significantly nicer. And more expensive.

WOW ! So $50K 🇺🇸 is about $62K AUS. I wish if we could get it this price here. Unfortunately, by the time it comes here and converts to RH Drive, I'll be looking into 90K Aus

They can be easy and cheap to replace, if the vehicle is properly designed, so they have some advantages.

Please Mr. Voelk. Everybody knows, that fuel economy measured on the vehicle’s computer/dash is always higher. I would love to see a auto journalist using the same fuel pump at the start and finish. Then measured the number of miles driven being divided by the number of gallons used; for accurate results. But this stat will always be excluded. For fear of the journalist(s) losing out on getting new vehicles to test drive by the manufacturer.

You're wrong on that Andre from TFL trucks did his own mileage and revuesit did it with his canyon at4

    • @DrivenCarReviews
      @DrivenCarReviews  ปีที่แล้ว

In order to do that, I would have to do multiple tanks for accuracy. And maybe Car and Driver could do that, but I'm one person with limited time and resources. And I think you're wrong about the trip computers, I regularly monitor it in my personal vehicles and find them very accurate. And if I was so concerned about losing out on test cars, I wouldn't be pointing out stuff like the lack of telescoping wheel and the inability to get basic creature comfort in this vehicle. What a tired argument that is.

Thanks for the early look!! TrailBoss fitment, esp in that red is stunning and seems pretty capable. Though the G80 doesn’t have FAST engagement for an LSD, it still keeps ya out of 4WD until the mud or white stuff gets deep. Upside of cloth seats is that they’re OK in winter if the motor warms fast. My current truck is that way and it’s fine, even when it’s BRR in the 20’s. Great work, enjoy your reviews - there are very few just plain straight shooters. Thanks!!
