  • Magpies are one of Australia's most iconic songbirds.

Research has shown magpies can recognize at least 100 different people and may be less likely to swoop individuals they have befriended.
Magpies produces a loud musical flute-like song, often performed as a duet or by groups. They can mimic over 35 species of native and introduced bird species.
Despite their sometimes unfair reputation as swoopers Mapgies remain one of Australia’s most popular birds.

I am always kind to the magpies I meet, I even greet them😁
I don't recall being swooped once in my 24 years of life.

The magpies in this video are the southern white backed.
Australian magpies were introduced into New Zealand and are well established, but not so flavoured amongst the New Zealand native species of birds.
I always say, you haven't completed life without a up close and personal relationship with a magpie.
Please don't feed them human food. Some of it is hardly fit for us and certainly not fit for these beautiful icons of Australia.
Feed them a little Wombaroo and or oats, not bread and scraps.
Befriend a magpie couple and experience their offspring. They make wonderful come and go pets. You won't own them, they'll own you.
    Happy Magpie Day everyone 🇦🇺
