    Tampatec, great video, reminds me of the old crystal radios with the valves my dad had in the 60s and 70s.

      Matt Bissell i missed the tube craze in the 70s but watching the tubes while listening to your fav music is so relaxing.

      There was not a tube craze in the 70's, from 1970 most TV's were still tube only, by 1972 transistors were making their way in and things moved quickly to fully transistor then IC's. I am subscribed to your channel and I find your TV repair video's excellent, well described and full of good information. Unfortunately this review has really shown that you do not know much about audio and amplifiers, your information and comments were wrong in so many ways. Please do not spoil a fantastic channel by reviewing an area that you do not have experience.
      Other than that keep up the good work Paul, you are helping so many with TV repairs.

    Just a random question. Is it possible to connect my digital audio player to a tube amp via USB to RCA cable? Will it affect the sound? Will it damage my audio player?

    Hi Paul can you help? :) I’m looking for a cheap solution to play a wav file automatically when powered on. I want to use IFTTT so when my motion sensor triggers, an outlet is turned on. That part is easy and done. When the outlet is turned on I want a sound of a dog barking. I’m doing an IFTTT security video. I will put the motion sensor by the window. When motion is detected I want dogs to bark.

      When I was a kid everything had tube amps.If one went out you went to the local store where you could test them and get new one's.I still love the sound of the old tube amp radios and I miss the white dot when I turn off my television. Ha!

    • @johnlightfoot9967
      @johnlightfoot9967 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The white dot was caused by Ions as the frame collapsed, eventually it would lead to a black dot permanently in the middle of the screen, Manufacturers fixed this by putting a small magnet around the neck of the tube called an ion trap and that sent all the poor little ions into a pile just below your tv :)

      Our TV screen never suffered from burn in. At least not that you could see.It was always fascinating to watch the TV "warm up" as we would say and shut down.Life was simpler then. Lol
      I also remember our first TV with a remote.When my Mom would drop a piece of cutlery by accident while doing dishes, it would change the channel.Ha!

      I never knew that. Sometimes you would hear a zapping sound when you turned the tv off.

    I have a Toshiba model 32e200u that only has an optical digital audio out. I'm thinking seriously about pulling back off and tying in to speaker wires directly, doable?

    Connect 1amp per speaker ( amp for left spkr/ amp for rght spkr ) Would sound/pwr be stronger? Would it be considered as a Monoblock amp? ( Speaking in terms of cheap Tube amps on amzn/ebay ) My JBL 4311's require pwr to turnover.

  • @Hungry_Hunter
    @Hungry_Hunter ปีที่แล้ว

    The tubes in these amps are driving a solid state output device. So it's really not a true tube amp which is why they are called hybrids. There is no way handling a tube will shorten its life unless you drop it on the concrete floor and it breaks. I've repaired a few of these and they are very cheaply made nothing even remotely close to Audiophile quality. If you want to hear some quality hollow state amplification this is definitely not the device.

    I have an off topic question per another one of your videos. lighting killed all my media stuff. got my TV working from your videos ( thanks btw) now I need to fix my receiver. can I use an esr meter to test small film caps? I only see people testing the big can caps. do the small caps have to be taken out if circuit and tested with a capacitance meter? 0.01 uF caps.

      You can use a digital to analogue convertor, I use one with my Philips smart tv and optical cable into Fatman iTube amp.

  • @vandal968
    @vandal968 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Tampatec, are the tubes definitely in the circuit? There is a similar tube amp reviewed on Amazon, in one of the reviews, someone traced the wires and found that the heaters of the tubes were connected (so that they would glow), but the actual amplification was being done by a little solid state amp hidden in the base. IE: the tubes were just for show. Is this amp real?

    • @TampaTec
      @TampaTec  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Corey Renner good question. I unplugged the left tube and volume was gone only the left speaker then plugged it back in and sound came back on left speaker slowly like a tube warming up to work which is normal. if the sound came back on instantly that would be suspicious. check videos of people that have changed the tubes to get improved sound is what really sold me. I love the ability to upgrade my tech.

    • @johnlightfoot9967
      @johnlightfoot9967 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The tubes are pre-amp only and the main amplifying power comes from a solid state stage. Known as hybrid amplifiers I feel that they are a con to get people to buy them while not fully understanding what is going on.

    • @raymondleggs5508
      @raymondleggs5508 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The description on the box and website says that it is a hybrid do its not a con.
