    It's only expensive if the problem is not fixed. You've got a world class trans in that car now and it will give excellent service. I think the T-56 and it's later derivative, the Tremec 6060 are about the best six speed manuals ever built. I've driven both and I cannot recall anything being better than them. Congrats on the project, and have fun!

    • @matt13ross
      @matt13ross  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yup I've got no complaints or worries with the T56 mag!

    I love that car it’s powered by American ingenuity...that’s the best part well it doesn’t look that bad either, knew it was the trans it’s a shame they are so pricey... I haven’t realized internal gears ect have gotten expensive. Great video

      Thanks! I love LS engines and like unique vehicles. My next LS will be a Vette though. And yes, T56s, all variants, are VERY expensive.

      @@matt13ross How much front axle weight did the swap add? The drawback of the American V8 engines is their weight (a significant impact on balance) and fuel consumption (outdated technology). Sure they are cheap and powerful but not without drawbacks.
      Personally I would prefer the S85.
      Nice build though.

    1,...when u get weldurz?? wish i had known, i would have suggested prime weld. excellent products. but not bad for a hf equipment. their helmets are horrible, though. i got a (slightly) better one, a lincoln unit, from home depot that works a little better but the auto darken still goes a bit wonky on that one as well. will probably go spendy and get a professional hood.
    2,...ryobi tools are fantastic, but the grinder is not their best. using the upgraded battery (3x, i think??) makes it better, but still way underpowered for serious work. it's handy, mind you, but i grab my other corded units when doing more serious stuff. i also got the metal shears and sorta wish i hadn't. nibblers are much better, or get the right and left hand snips and use those (not that you are going to fab stuff, just general info...)
    3,...that wear looks awful and would suggest to me that there is something not quite aligned correctly causing the output shaft to run off centered.
    4,...have to take off now, but will watch the rest of the vid on my break. looking forward to possibly seeing this in person at bfe or some other northeast meetup.

    • @matt13ross
      @matt13ross  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I actually got the welder for free. It works fine but only has 4 settings plus wire speed. I def need a better helmet.
      I love my Ryobi stuff, but will probably be making the switch to Milwaukee. They make so many more automotive tools that Ryobi doesn't.
      I'm hoping there is a BFE soon!

    Just an opinion, but I build driveshafts for a living, we have customers in the circle track racing world that use the Sonnax billet yokes, and one customer had problems with them getting hot and the barrel expanding inside the transmission and would snap the carbon fiber driveshaft. Not sure why yours had an uneven wear on the barrel, just a theory 🤷‍♂️

    • @matt13ross

    My money is on improperly installed internals on the transmission. Mainly synchros. Also, bro... Those "welds" are.. interesting. A grinder is your friend though with stuff like this. It reduces the surface area of the weld in turn reducing the places for rust to take hold when your paint chips. Welding is not easy to pick up and you are starting with pipes that are harder to weld so solid effort. Check out this video th-cam.com/video/5KrwmK7df-s/w-d-xo.html. I am a school-trained welder and I continue to watch this dude's videos to brush up on technique.

    • @matt13ross
      @matt13ross  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Welds were fine on this old exhaust, at least good enough to not leak, which was the goal. Whoever welded it before me didn't have great looking welds either. The exhaust isn't permanent for this car so NBD. I am planning on practicing and upgraded my welding skills and tools in the future though.

    • @TheMsterblaster
      @TheMsterblaster 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@matt13ross Totally agree. You'll be good with these on an exhaust lol. You just need to slow down and let that puddle build up a bit. Those boogers you have going are because you are pulling the puddle before it has a chance to penetrate the substrate. I like to run a few practice beads on some similar material before I weld anything just to see how it will react to my gear. As far as welding equiptment. Those little HF welding machines are pretty tits. I would focus on skill before thinking about getting better equiptment and tools but it seems like that is your plan. If you have welding questions let me know.
