I bought this bundled with Rocket League as a free bonus, I still regret ever buying this. I've gotten so much more enjoyment from just using a $20 xbox 360 controller than this $50 mouse pad with buttons. I feel like I essentially paid $50 for Rocket League and a paper weight.
This is from October 2015, episode 115. A lot of things have changed. The Steam Controller has recieved a lot of Software Updates. The community is providing Custom profiles for almost every game I tried it with. You can use your Steam Controller on your Desktop now. You can set button combos like "ALT+TAB", "ALT+F4" or control music with it. There are people out there who made the Steam Controller sing for crying out loud. It's still hard to recommend. You have to do a lot of configuration and try stuff out. If you're a weirdo like me, who loves to check out new control methods, maybe try it.
The steam controller was an embarassing disaster, but at least they took all that feedback and used it to make the steam deck one of the best-feeling handhelds I've ever used.
8 minutes in... Assuming such a highly configurable device utilizing totally new input methods should be a plug and play device... Theres your problem right there. Also sounds like he was holding it very wrong given his abxy complaint despite having huge hands... Should be cradling it, almost cupping it, not gripping it like you would with a xbox controller trying to lay your thumbs flat. (Yes, I am aware this rant is years old. Today things are much different, the plug and play experience is much better but still not perfect) The steam controller is great, it just requires you throw out all preconceived notions of input and learn a new set of skills. Thats only bad of you are looking for plug and play, but for everything else its amazing. To use an analogy.... If video games are like pieces of music and controllers are the instruments... The Steam Controller is like a theramin. Its odd and difficult to control, but in the hands of someone who knows what they are doing it can make absolutely gorgeous music.
remember using this for TF2. I was lucky i was able to hit anything.
