  • In this video I am demonstrating how to get up from the floor with a non-weightbearing ankle/leg. If you know you're going to have a surgery and will not be able to bear any weight for a while after your surgery, I highly recommend you practice this prior to your surgery rather than practicing after your surgery.
    My name is Taro Iwamoto. I am a Feldenkrais practitioner and movement expert. On my TH-cam channel I share videos of Feldenkrais based mindful movement, tips and strategies to improve your functions and life so you can move through the world physically and emotionally with a sense of ease, comfort, and freedom!
    Movement is vital to your health. Improving your movement therefore means improving your health and life. 3 key things are: 1) Daily movement practice to improve movement quality (MOVE WELL) 2) Incorporate good movement into daily activities (MOVE WELL AND MORE) 3) Awareness and mindfulness of your movement and lifestyle (MINDFUL MOVEMENT)

    This helped me a lot after suffering a broken leg and having the no weight bearing status. Thank you

    Thank you! I was having a wickedly hard time getting off the floor after knee surgery! I knew there had to be a better way! Very helpful!

    Excellent video that is really helpful. Most other videos show non-weight bearing foot/ankle techniques, so they put weight on their knees (kneeling) to get up off the floor. Also, your advice to practice before scheduled surgery is great. Thank you for posting this.

    Thank you! This is so helpful. I am wearing a walking boot with a broken ankle and was afraid to do floor exercises. Now I can get up off the ground on my own without fear of falling.

    Just fractured my tibial plateau a few days ago and yesterday I did something I shouldn’t have, trying to retrieve my shoes from under the bed. When I realized that I couldn’t use that knee for support or put weight on that leg,I had no way to get up. It was even hard once I called my husband to help. I’m not old or infirm so this was embarrassing. Thank you!

    Just watched several of your videos on getting up with various injuries. Thank you so much for creating and posting these!
    This one was the most helpful to me, because you didn’t roll on your hip of bad leg, to position yourself for getting up. I’m recovering from multiple breaks (swimmer vs speedboat), and cannot roll on my right hip without tremendous pain (fractured femur) or bend my right knee or right ankle very far (severed Achilles, broken ankle bones) so needed to work out how to get up using only my left leg.
    I’m not going to try unless I have to, because it would cause too much pain in so many places…but, now I have a good example of how to get up should I fall when no one is around to help.

    Could you do a yoga and strength video for people laid up with tibial plateau fracture or other non-weight bearing ,straight knee brace conditions? My body could really use a good yoga routine right now.

    This helps me as I have little flex in one of my knees so if I am on the floor I could not bend that leg into a position to push me up. Thank you so very much as I have had to have someone help me up from the floor on a few occasions. This I can do.

    I think, since I’ll start working my biggest and most agreeable Doberman to help me get off the floor. Since I broke my tibial plateau he’s been filling me around like a mother hen.

    This method does require strong wrists. Mine are much stronger after yoga training but I expect a lot of people don't realise how much they stop using their arms once they have a lower limb problem.

    Any idea how to lift a 10 kg baby off of the floor while minimising weight on the ankles? I seem to have a stress injury in my left ankle.

    • @TaroIwamoto
      @TaroIwamoto  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      learning to use your hips, access the power of hips during bending, lifting can reduce stress to the ankles. My lifting (deadlifting) and how to bend forward videos would be helpful for that:)

    This is not helpful. Its not so easy as you shown in this video bcz you are normal person. Its not easy to get up so easily for fat person also with their body weight and with knee surgery.
