It's hard to go back to coach after you have stayed in a roomette. Peaceful and the best is laying flat at night to sleep. Enjoyed it very much.

For me it's hard to go back to a roomette after you have stayed in a bedroom :)

Happy New Year! When I was your age, I took the roomettes to save money. Now that I'm retired, I have much more money so I don't mind spending more on a bedroom. I also need to use the bathroom more than I used to, and it's great to have the bathroom. The sink is also nice as you mentioned. I use the in-room shower, and it dries out quickly after using it, but I've considered using the community shower because it's bigger. The bathroom and sink are the big advantages of the bedroom. You're at an age where you want to save money, and good for you! Now that I'm retired, I'm still increasing my savings, but it's not as important to cut costs. Wait 15 or 20 years, and you might opt for a little more luxury. I wondered if the sleeping direction in the bedroom would bother me, but I fall asleep in 5 or 10 minutes, and I sleep well in the bedroom

The upper bunk in a bedroom and both bunks on a roommette are about the size of your rack (bed) on a submarine....but you have way more personal space on amtrak than on the boat! I remember I felt like an officer when I took the Coast Starlight from Seattle to San Jose as my "ride home"! Enlisted berthing on a Trident (Ohio class) is a room the size of an office cubicle with 9 racks inside, for 9 people! Three stacked on top of each other in the forward end, three amidships, and three aft! Whereas with a roommette or bedroom, you have a whole room to yourself, with a door and everything 🙂 And the ability to take a warm shower on a train is really good too. On a sub, the water is VERY cold, and you can only have it on for about one second at a time. Reason is that the potable water system can hold a little over 5000 gallons per day, so with 120 people aboard, that's 41 gallons each, for ALL your water needs....so a shower on there is turn the water on for one second, turn it off, put soap on, turn water on for one second, turn it off, shower over. lol! Amtrak far superior. 🙂

We recently took a Viewliner from NJ to Delray Beach FL. We had two roomettes. We were lucky to have a toilet in the rooms each way. I would not want to use a public shared toilet, and I get up a couple of times a night to go. Our trip was around 30 hrs going down to FL so showering was not a necessity. We priced a bedroom and it was over $700 (closer to $800) more than what we paid for the two roomettes.

I read the title as Ultimate Guide to Amtrak Bathrooms. That would be useful.

People complain about the bumpy ride but they’re just lucky they can afford to travel on Amtrak and I consider it a luxury to be able to travel. I’m going to try a roomette next time if I can get a good deal. People are so fussy and they complain about the bathroom being wet if it’s a one-room shower and all they have to do is wipe down the toilet and the walls and it’s so simple or maybe the attendant would do that for you. I get tired of hearing people complain about little nitpicky things because they’re damn lucky they can go on the train at all.

Question: I watched another video where she had a horrible time on the California Zepher to Chicago! Mainly the rough bumpy ride and had no sleep. Anyone else have this experience???

You said the superliner bedroom would be around a thousand bucks. Is that per person?

The single seat in the bedrooms is the most uncomfortable seat on the train, for the $$ you spend, it is an abomination. I've never had difficulty with the toilet/shower in the bedroom. Just wipe it down with your towel when your done. Attendant will bring you more towels if needed. All in all... cost wise I don't find the bedroom to be worth it.

Still fun to watch new videos, Especially when planning a trip again...But they are quite repetitive by now Of course.. Once you cover everything over and over again. Not much to go over in new videos.. Trains don't really change.

About people being smaller years ago, they didn’t have as much food to eat and they didn’t eat as much as Americans do nowadays. Americans nowadays eat too much and they wouldn’t be as large if they would stop eating.

Maybe it's because you guys always use points, but your Amtrak cost estimates are always about half of what is reality now. For example, current prices for a bedroom from Chicago to Emeryville on the California Zephyr are roughly $1,700 or $1,950 for 1 or 2 travelers, respectively, for late January, and $,2770 and $3,000 for late September. There are similar discrepancies from your estimates for other routes. I know on your financial channel you brag about only spending an hour or two now to produce a video, but I think your subscribers would appreciate it if you would spend a little more time on research before posting erroneous information.

Still fun to watch but both seats videos are just repetitive now.. You can only say so much about all of amtrak's trains the bedrooms et cetera.
So still fun to see when you're planning Another trip on the train
