My wife is disabled due to battling cancer eight times so we went to a trike (Tri-Glide). We test drove a Gold Wing trike and hated the handling. We test drove a CamAm Spyder and hated the handling on it. Then we test drove a Harley trike and it handled great. Right from the start it handled much better than the others. You have to steer a trike instead of leaning but that doesn't take long to get use to. On a straight highway, like a divided highway there is very little difference between a Harley trike and a two wheeled motorcycle. On a back road with a lot of curves it takes more effort to steer it, but it is a very short learning curve. We are on our second trike a 2021 Tri-Glide and ride it every day the weather permits. A trike is much safer than a two wheeled bike because groved pavement doesn't bother it a bit. It is safer on wet road and much easier for other motorist to see. Yes, there is a short learning curve but it is worth it. I like the Freewheeler because the rear reminds me of an old service car. I could have bought a 1937 HD service car once from a friend that ran like new for only $700. I still regret not buying it. I never use the GPS, radio, or blue tooth on my Tri-Glide, maybe next time I'll buy a Freewheeler and add a windscreen and passenger backrest.
I absolutely love the Tri Glide and feel that they are there own thing. Not a car, not a two wheeler but something fun to ride in its own right. Would love to know this machine as well as you do. My prayers for your wife.
@@forgottenmotorcycles I assume the Tri-Glide and the Freewheeler handle the same. They are still motorcycles, just one extra wheel. I do not like the Slingshot because they have a steering wheel, bucket seats and a car engine and transmission. To me they are too car like. Thank you for your prayers... that means a lot to us.
I am a retired Brit living in two counrtries. In Portugal I ride a Can-Am Spyder F3-S. In Thailand, one of these would suit me. They are soon to be available. I also have a selection of two-wheelers.
Hello. Try $6,000 not counting the fender work. LOL My Sciatica is permanently damaged and can't hold up a 2 wheeler. Laid mine down on top of me. Had to sell it. So, this will be my last Harley. I am 70 years old, retired, and figured I might as well go all out. Still cheaper than a girlfriend. It sucks that TH-cam does not let us post pictures. I totally enjoyed this video. Big Thanks. I think these beautiful motorcycles don't get proper recognition. The few that I've rode have been a bunch of fun. It's my goal to put miles of a few more of these this year. Would really like to have one. Think they fill a riding spot that is not fully understood or appreciated...yet. If possible please post picture on our Forgotten Motorcycles Facebook page. Would love to see it!
Love it! I think it was Fortnine that commented about HD's ageing customer base and the need to make mobility scooters 😂 which is probably why they appeal to me 😁 weather looks good there!
Quite a nice machine. My neighbor has a triglide and remarked about his uncertainty regarding its cornering capability. I noticed that your area doesn't offer as many opportunities to test that limitation.
This was my first ride on this type of three wheeler. Not knowing where it's edges were, I really took it easy. Did ride it about a dozen miles, many of those on twisty, hilly back roads. The bike was predictable and stable at the average speeds I was running at. Again, I made sure I was not pushing it at all. Did like it a lot and would love to run one a hundred miles down some good old back roads. It was a fun machine and I never once thought of it as less than a real motorcycle. Thanks!
I bought a 2022 Freewheeler in December, sent so much out to be powder coated in black, and now the 2023 comes already blacked out. Grrrrr Wheels all blacked, front end from beer cans down blacked, back rest and rack blacked, heat shields blacked, sunken gas caps, lens now smokey grey, switched from Halogen to LED headlamp, changed the handlebar grips, the seat cover is getting diamond stitched in black thread same as both backrests, and an LED light show over engine, changes colors every few seconds. Screamin Eagle pipes in Black. Last, I will have the front fender made like an Indian Chief front fender, and the rears will have the same skirt design, and all 3 in Metal. No composite for me.
I really like the look of the Freewheeler because its styling harks back to the classic Servicar. For me, though, the TriGlide was more practical even though its styling isn't as "cool" IMO. The full fairing and much greater storage capacity fit my needs better. If I had the money, though, I'd also have a Freewheeler for short trips around town.
Totally agree, the Tri-Glide is more practical but that freewheeler is an amazing machine. Really enjoyed riding it and would love to put a few hundred miles on one through the hills. Beautiful. Wahoo!
It's a very nice motorcycle. Really enjoyed riding it and would love to put a bunch of miles on one through Iowa's beautiful Loess Hills. Sorry for the very slow response was in Hospital for 9 days, darn deer. Home now. Wahoo!
Hopefully they’ve improved the “handling“ of these things since the 2005 Lehman trike I had. It pushed through corners like a dump truck. Crossing uneven surfaces like transitions from parking lots was interesting if you didn’t hit both rear tires at the same angle. I imagine these work fine if you spend your time on highways. I sold mine fairly quickly. I just didn’t like the handling. I put over 22,000 miles on a Can Am Spyder and I’d probably buy another if I needed 3 wheels. The Spyder was much more stable and was fun in corners. Both required more effort in turns than a traditional motorcycle. If you need more stability, and you’re not determined to get a Harley, you probably need to test a Spyder before you decide.
Thank you for your informed comment. I was thinking that this would be a real arm machine...it really was not. I think they may have worked out some of what you're mentioning. Only rode it about a dozen miles but didn't have any issues with the handling...I really took it easy. I've rode the Can Am Ryker and found that machine to be a total blast to run, especially through the twisties, very sporty. Love the solid planted feeling of its two in front layout. I'll have to get myself on a Spyder...soon. Wahoo!
I have both. Yes, the Spyder will out corner the Freewheeler any day. When I go on a long ride, I take the Spyder. I put TAB exhaust on the freewheeler so I take that when pissing around and going for just a cruise. In a straight line, the Freewheeler WILL destroy the spyder, but say on an oval track, the spyder will destroy the Freewheeler
Joel, I do believe that if you express this point to the H-D dealer, they would accommodate your request for modifying the free-wheeler trike to fit your need! To have you experience"the wind in your hair"! Betterly known as "wind therapy"! Doug🏍️
