23:00 She HAD to act her ass off for that scene, and she knew she HAD to, because she knew how important that scene is to the story. Nami breaking down and asking Luffy for help is THE moment in One Piece, the point where everyone who gets there understands how good it can be. It's the hook for the entire story, and it has to be done well, and the actress knew that and respected it, and did a fantastic job with it.

It's funny you guys say that Usopp doesn't understand that his words and actions has consequences, because in the anime he actually gets a whole ass arc of coming to understand exactly _that_ 😅 Edit: I loved when Sanji hits on Nojiko and Zoro's like "Give it up 🙄" and Sanji just.. GLARES at him 😂
For me Sanji glaring at Zoro after Nojiko mentions " there better be dessert" is what does is to me. I still can't decide who exactly is gonna be the dessert between the two, but one of them is for sure. 😂
So, the village not knowing what she was doing is something they changed in the lives action. In the anime, Nami had told Nojiko and Nojiko told the village, but Nami didn't know that they knew, because the villagers wanted her to be able to "quit" at anytime and not feel pressured to keep going out and stealing from pirates for their sakes. I think another aspect that a lot of people seem to not delve into is how dangerous what Nami was doing. As a little kid she was going out and tricking pirates and stealing from them for the sake of her village. There's no way she was an expert pickpocket at such a young age, she had to learn from experience, which means she definitely made mistakes in the past and probably had to deal with angry pirates as a consequence . So when she first meets Luffy and tells him how much she hates pirates, she's not just speaking from her experience with Arlong, which is terrible but also from the hundreds of other pirates she's had to deal with over the years trying to steal enough money to buy back her village.
Yeah, that moment of crew just around, and them going forward with the captain's one command, Lets Go... all of that is a solid memory in the community..Emily stated the same, that made her a fan. Arlong Park Arc is Ep 30-45 in the anime, if interested.
And that's what makes it really hurt - Arlong didn't lie. If he'd promised not to intervene in her getting or delivering the money he'd had lied. If he'd promised not to attack Coco Village before she delivered the money or before morning, he'd have lied. But he didn't. He technically kept his word - and deliberately prevented her from being able to keep up her side of the deal. It's actually worse than if he had lied.

One of the things i love about luffy is that he really doesn't know half of the stories of his own crew because he really doesn't care about past or future, just the present is enough, when he meets new people he cares about he focuses on who they are at the moment, not who they were or who they might become
He talks about the future at every single episode recap and every single time he meets someone. Sometimes multiple times in the same episode / chapter. 😅

In the original, Nami's sister knows about Nami's deal. Arlong took her to his park when they found the maps and learned she drew them, and when she came back to the village she'd already made the deal with Arlong if she could bring him 100 million berry (think 1 berry = 1 yen = (at the time) 1 cent - so $1 million). The village was about to march to their deaths to take Nami back from Arlong. So Nami thought quickly on her feet and rather than admit that she was being enslaved to Arlong until she could come up with $1 million berry to buy the village (which probably would mean the villagers would still insist on fighting to their deaths), she pretended as if she wanted to join Arlong's crew for the money that she never had up till then growing up. Afterwards, Nojiko took Nami and forced her to tell her what happened, and so she knew right away and for the rest of the story. The villagers, suspicious about what was going on with Nami, cornered Nojiko and made her tell them what happened. So, from the beginning, the entire village knew what Nami was doing, but Nami didn't know that they knew. They held back their will to fight for freedom as long as Nami was still OK, and wouldn't let Nami know so she could leave Arlong at any time without thinking that the village was relying on her. When they found out Arlong betrayed Nami (Genzo came to their place when Nezumi was taking Nami's money), they said that's enough, and formed one last stand to march against Arlong Park. Nami tried to stop them one last time, saying she'd go get the money again, and pointing a knife at them and saying if you go, you'll die. They said that's fine, and that she needed to leave and save herself - the town would go fight to their deaths. It was then, when Nami had completely lost control of the situation - all her work was for nothing, the villagers were going to their deaths - that's when she went after her tattoo, and Luffy stopped her. That was basically identical to that tear jerking scene. Also, when Nojiko was explaining what happened to Nami, Luffy was just taking a nap and didn't even hear the backstory. In this, when Nami says you don't know anything, it was even more true in the original.
Sorry to burst your bubble, but Gold Roger died 4-5 years before Luffy was born. Still, a lot of people do make that mistake because Luffy is a lot like Roger. There are reasons for this, but it's not about parentage.
27:19 Unless of course Garp is Luffy's MATERNAL grandfather, ie if Luffy's mother is his daughter. And remember, I said IF. Otherwise all I'll say is - we have met Luffy's father.
As much as Usopp is not my favorite strawhat, they do kind of gloss over a lot of his better qualities in the live action. During his arc he talks about not telling the villagers about the black cats even if it would validate him, because he wants them to live in peace because he loves them. Also, in this arc, he has to play the “hero” and tries to save Nami by himself despite being incredibly scared. She saves him, but he gets to see her pain first before any of the other Strawhats and that really, in my opinion, sparks their close friendship in seasons to come.
So before the live action came out, I said that if it didn’t do justice to the 5 most pivotal moments of the East Blue saga, then I would have no faith in the live action, & the biggest of the 5 was Nami’s cry for help. This is the moment in the series where One Piece became something special to a lot of its fans. This is the moment that kept so many people on the journey even to this day. Thank God that Emily Rudd nailed this scene.
Hey guys. My husband found your channel and we are loving your reaction videos. We're happy to see a new group in the reaction circuit. We are wondering when the last episode of one piece live action will be uploaded to TH-cam. Keep up the awesome work.
I think she didn't, she gave him the lacking money but immediately told him wait I got the money don't do anything I am buying the village tonight. Then he sent Nezumi to steal the money and since the tribute wasn't enough he went to attack the village anyway, why else would he do it? The timing is off if not for what I said.
@@isaac3078 cutting ties with Nami is the reason he attacked the village, he took away her reason to be there, plus he got the secret vault map, her usefulness was halfway done, and now the money from Nezumi as well...bigger things to conquer now, destroy the village n move on...the Maps she drew for him are more important to build his empire though.
I do love the live action, but having read the manga for the first time after watching the live action, I feel like they could have done Usopp a bit better. He just lacks moments to shine in the live action, whereas in the manga his loyalty, creativity and crafting and sniper skills are more on display, making him much easier to root for.
30:41 I reckon in the live action she didn't tell the village because she didn't want anyone to risk their lives helping her (if someone else got money for her and Arlong found out he'd say that money didn't count and may even kill those who helped her) and also hated herself for working for her mothers killer and felt that she deserved to be hated so she just let the villagers hate her.
To me it makes perfect sense that Nami kept the deal with Arlong secret (yes, I know it’s different in the anime) because the deal was never about the money for Arlong. He wanted Nami on his crew because of her skills and he’s desperate to keep her. He admitted that he was worried she wouldn’t come back, he told her that she’s got a special place with him but at the same time he reminds her that “humans needs to be brought to heel”, sends her to the village she wants to help to remind her of how hated and despised she is there, brings her with him to the meeting with corrupt marines to show her how powerful he is and does everything he can to make sure she knows that staying with him is her only option. Nami is smart enough to know that, if Arlong thinks there’s someone she cares about, someone she might try to leave him for, he will kill them. The second he understands she’s really going through with the plan to free the village he makes sure she can’t pay and he burns down the village, taking away the one thing he knows she cares about once again leaving himself as her only option. Abuse from start to finish and Nami bring strong enough to not being Stockholm’s syndromed into it!
27:14 And said "I warned you. You brought this on yourself." I'm not saying anything. I'm just saying - they know each other. Besides, Garp didn't order his execution - he carried the sentence out. I don't think a Vice Admiral has that kind of authority.
Imagine a village being okay with a 5 year old girl joining the pirate crew that killed ppl from their village. There's a lot of shame to this deal and who would believe she is capable of 100 mil. Not even Arlong. It's just Nami's character and agency to try and control her situation through money the way her mother could not afford to.
I think of the anime term is like the situation with champagne or manchego, It is a designation of origin to differentiate it from cartoons and animation in general, be it due to origin or production otherwise it is just sparkling wine or cheese in general terms.
In the anime, because bellemere cant pay enough for all 3 of them, Arlong says Bellemere will be a example for those who dont pay tribute. Even though his crew already said dont she could just pay it off, but Arlong doesnt care there is always another human for him to conquer on his war path to pay tribute. They nailed the Help me moment very well by Emily, Nami's actress, she is a big fan of One Piece, so she knew she had to nail it 1:1 That said I have mixed feelings about episode 7. In the anime they had not yet revealed the fishmmens history of oppression at all yet, so they just seem like supremacists and even more hated, I understand they threw it super early in incase no season 2. What I am more sad about is, they didnt have more time to go into Bellemere flash back, who Bellemere is cuz, she had some great lines of female empowerment towards her daughters. The order of events and how they played out in the anime vs LA in comparison the live action is much more watered down, the anime is much darker on what happens around bellemere's murder and the events leading upto the Help me moment that I think wouldnt work as well in live action. It was serviceable but it was as deep as a puddle compared to the pool it was in the anime, more then any other part. Also, while it doesnt rly matter, luffy in the anime just goes for a walk when Nejiko approach the crew, to tell them of nami's past, cuz Luffy doesnt need to know to want to help his friend, but he does know in the live action and just went along with it during the help me moment when nami says he doesnt know whats going on here, when he certainly does. Its just not a super luffy kind of moment in the full context since he doesnt lie or pretend to know or not know anything. So while the lines of the Help me moment where 1:1 it wasnt exactly true anymore. Which I guess the *pirate hunter* line from Zoro in the live action was just to demonstrate luffy is ok with indirect lies. xD Nejiko her sister in the anime only got her tattoo's so that Nami wouldnt feel as isolated and branded as she did about hers, so Nejiko having it in the live action lost its meaning and was just her design, which is cool but sad still. 1-2 more episodes would of rly helped arlong park SO much. They didnt get to flesh out the villagers or nami's early teen years stealing from pirates bareley making it back alive, that where covered
I know it's going to be a long time but - when do you think we'll learn about the Sun pirates? When do you think we'll meet Jinbei? When do you think someone will tell us about Fisher Tiger? And Queen Otohime?
i said it before, i will say it again... but you guys realize you kinda have to cosplay for the final episode... Hector as Yasopp, Sean as Garp, Titus as Usopp and Austin as Zeff... just saying that would be pretty amazing and really fitting 🤔😆
Speaking of old-timers who are still going strong (re Zeff and Garp talking) - who do you think they'll get to play Silvers Raleigh? Or Tsuru? Jamie Lee Kurtis is still a favourite for Kureha.
@@MorenaEvensong Oh yes, Crocus of course. And of course (I was trying to avoid too many names because of spoilers but forget that!) who's going to play Whitebeard?
@@agenttheater5 Lol, there are SOOO many freakin' characters in this series that I'm not sure that names on their own with little context are all that much of a spoiler... Always thought Jeff Bridges would make a great Raleigh though -- not that I think that's ever gonna happen. To me he always seems to channel prime The Dude energy 90% of the time.
Oh scenes that are so inherently hype that they got people pumped up, but were done so much better in the anime and even better than that in the manga. It's fun watching people get pumped up less than they would watching better versions of this story, but also a little sad. Just fucking read One Piece, guys. It's so many miles beyond this. I know it's a beloved show and all that, but hear me out: I hated it. I didn't hate it because it was bad, but because I'd already experienced a version of it that was about a hundred times better. That's how good that manga is. It's one of the greatest stories ever told and if you don't experience it in its original form because you want to read the cliffnotes instead, then you're doing it right because that is exactly what this adaptation is. It's the freaking cliffnotes. At that point why bother? I mean why would you read the cliffnotes for War and Peace? The whole point of the story is the brilliant prose of Tolstoy. That's the difference. Don't fuck around. Read One Piece or just don't engage with the story at all.
As a longtime fan of anime, I dislike anime being called cartoons because cartoons implies that it is just for children. Anime is a large medium that contains works for all age-ranges. I'm more referring to talking about anime as a whole, and not specific shows. I am definitely more lenient when talking about specific shows, because they can have those specific demographics they are targeting.
Anime is basically Japanese cartoon and it comes from animation. This anime isn't a cartoon is nonsense. Of course the theme of each show is not always for children but it is a Japanese cartoon in the end.
Ok but having this stance just reinforces the ignorant stigma that something being an animation or a cartoon IS inherently for children, hence you trying to other anime away from that. Kill this "cartoon = for kids" stereotype and you won't have this hang up about people calling anime cartoons at all.
@@jazzycat8917 I'm fine with cartoon being a term that is specific to children's animation though. The stigma about animation as a whole is the real issue though I agree.

i said it before, i will say it again... but you guys realize you kinda have to cosplay for the final episode... Hector as Yasopp, Sean as Garp, Titus as Usopp and Austin as Zeff... just saying that would be pretty amazing and really fitting 🤔😆
Did red hair guy come in a hater? Seems everything goes above his head.
He always looks like he's flirting because he's French.
Speaking of old-timers who are still going strong (re Zeff and Garp talking) - who do you think they'll get to play Silvers Raleigh? Or Tsuru? Jamie Lee Kurtis is still a favourite for Kureha.
Don't forget Crocus, if you're mentioning old-timers still going strong.
23:37 Yes it is familiar. But i'm not touching that😁😁
Thank you for pointing that out tho!
17:50 why you racist tho😭
The beeeeeest
Of course she is laughing
