I have a tip for sewing a backstitch that looks very neat from both sides. Your sewing looked great, but whenever I do a backstitch the front only looks good but the back tends to look wonky where the longer threads cross over unevenly and just look odd. My solution is to hold the garment/seam upside down, and sew backwards. So the seam will be close to you and the body of the garment is farther away, and instead of sewing right-to-left, you sew left-to-right. Since it's a backstitch you're still inserting the needle on the right and taking your stitch to the left. But then you carry across the long threads on the TOP of your fabric instead of behind it, so you can see where they're going. You can then always be sure your needle goes properly under/behind the last long thread when it comes out of the fabric, and it keeps the seam looking perfect.
