    My family lived there in the mid 60’s in Tafuna. I kept two horses at Mapasaga, on the coconut plantation. Are they still there? Thanks! I’ve really enjoyed your videos. Samoa was a magical place, and I still am in touch with the group I hung with then!

      That’s so cool!! I’ve heard that there’s a family with a few horses here on-island but I’ve never seen them with my own eyes...

      @@AmSamFam There used to be lots of Samoan horses in the villages, and on the coconut plantation at Mapasaga. Sadly, Samoans treated them badly, so the promise was that a horse left behind would go to another American. My horses were on the plantation with a herd of Samoan horses who were used as pack animals. One of them was a stallion who used to run the mares into the mountains, making the plantation manager very angry. He eventually slit the stallion’s throat, my sister and I found him. We were 12 and 7 years old. Life there was pretty wild! No communication at all. We were lucky not to have been injured or worse! Is the plantation still there?

      @@jennfiergoudy6348 wow, crazy story! I’m not sure if the plantation is still there. I’m going to ask around.

      @@AmSamFam I’ll be looking forward to what you find! Life was so different then. Tafuna was new, we used to walk to the end of the runway (the old one), and snorkel with the incoming tide in the lagoon. It was amazing. The two years I spent there were the best. Actually all of my friends still miss our life there!

      Hey, thanks for the correction. I've only ever heard it referred to as Aoloau, so that's good to know. It's one of our favorite spots to look out over the island 🏝❤️

    I want to plan a trip for my wife and I, so we can better decide if that is where we want to live.

    You know what’s so funny? I feel safer experiencing hurricanes in American Samoa than I do in the States. Most houses there are single story, people know what to expect and so prepare accordingly like throw fishing nets over their roofs and put heavy rocks or concrete on the bottom to hold it down, we don’t have the high buildings and streets like the States that funnel the wind.

    WHEN YOU GUYS GOING TO LEARN HOW SPIKES SAMOA ?.

    • @AmSamFam
      @AmSamFam  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question! Honestly, we just haven’t committed to it. We go through phases of working on it, learning vocabulary and such, and then we get distracted by life and we lose much of what we learned. We just need to commit and make it happen.
