Main SInger David Haskell, has a voice that melts me. Inspiring! Learned of his death due to brain Cancer and he has passed, but he will always hold a place in my heart forever.
That was back when we were all sweating the draft and praying that the ping pong ball for our birthday would come out late. Sort of ruins your whole senior year when you do not know if you are going to college or going to Nam. So, I look back on the late 60s and early 70s with very little nostalgia.
+Joe McNair I understand why you feel that way. Being born in 1963 I was too young to be directly affected by the war, yet old enough to begin to get into the music, crafts and other things I loved and still vividly remember. These songs always brought me great joy, and when I gave my life to Jesus at 14, they were among the first songs in my heart. I can't help but have great nostalgia for those days of my life. :-)
@@sandybeach8596 all that jibber jabber in response to someone who isn't religious and just came here to say he enjoyed the movie. There will be no journey because of it. It's like saying to someone who loved the Twilight movies that someday they'll become a believer in vampires. It's fiction, same as this movie..
I got save in 1974.....this music reminds me of the joy and simplicity of being a baby Christian. 40+ years later it's been a hard journey...but God is faithful !!!
Awesome awesome song. As a Christian, this just really speaks to my soul... no matter how 70's and well, hippie-ish it may appear. It has a really good message. :)
the first minute gave me the chills, and I know the movie! then when " John" saw " Jesus" also gave me the chills , on a more humorous note, can you imagine what would happen to a group of people playing in a fountain today?
it was Stephen Schwartz to film in NYC and then the director did not want it - too difficult - until he woke up in the middle of night and thought "yes, film in NYC!"
As a young kid of 9, I saw this film and cried at its ending but remember loving the songs and the film. Now seeing this clip brings it all back to me and the tears as well. WOW time does fly by fast.
When The Passion came out, Father Archer (my Pastor) said that if you were shocked by the blood and violence, you haven't been paying attention. God grant that we can return to these lessons He taught, instead of the hate I've seen from so many "christians" lately ❤️❤️❤️👏🏾👏🏽👏🏼👏🏾👏🏽
This movie makes me want to dance in the streets! I was ten when this movie came out. I remember how ashamed I was for wanting to see it. Can you believe that? I can’t and it happened to me. But I was a child. Now! I don’t care who knows. ❤️❤️❤️ Bring it!
This song brings my heart back to 1978 when I was first born again and we were so young, filled with joy and felt so free in Jesus. God bring us back to our first love!
I'm an atheist and I'm playing drums in it.... I'm just glad to see that there are a lot of babes in it. The musical theatre campus at my uni makes the changing room at Victoria's Secret look like a sauna full of fat old bald guys.
We did the whole "Godspell" yesterday night as a concert, not as a play at all. I sing the John/Judas part and play guitar (Day by Day and By my Side). It is very exiting to see peple cheer, whistle stand up an clap their hands in a region, where catholic churches are rather quiet and distinguished.. ha! Praise God with sound of the trumpet! And with e-guitar, bass, drumkit, keyboard and half a hundred voices of our choir...
My parents had this album & they played it often when I was young. I remember Godspell as a beautiful celebration of my Christian Faith. To this day, these songs bring me comfort & remind me of the Love & Grace of God. I will try to post them all....
I love the music! Such fond memories of performing this in church. I played Jeffrey =) What amazed us was the sold-out crowd. Our church has pretty decent numbers, but it was rarely ever packed so full. Those few nights, it was wall-to-wall people. Amazing experience, and one I'll never forget!
Imagine the sheer joy people felt when John the Baptist announced the coming of the Lord. This vignette encapsulates it so well. I love how people are so eager to respond they are leaving behind jobs and friends and shoes.
I remember how much the religious community hated this movie, it was sacrilege.... but it turned out to be the exact thing the Gospel was trying to relay to us; no matter who we are, where we are are doing; when some hear the call they will drop everything and respond.
I remember listening to the broadway album when it came out before the movie was made. I couldn't get enough of it. Now in the 2021 year I listen to one song from the album and the craving starts all over again where i can't get enough of it; like an itch that has to be scratched .
When I accepted Christ as my Savior it was the most incredible experience of my life. The effervescent feeling that went through me was unmistakable. It was the Holy Spirit letting me know that yes indeed I had made the right decision. I'm sure many millions of others have had the same type of experience.
I've watched these clips plenty of times in the last couple of years - NEVER before I was Born Again on 28-2-21. [Though I did see "Godspell" at theatres several times]. I am kind of proud of fellow Brit "David Greene" - a stranger to New York who nevertheless knew how to do the job as Director!!! But only in the last few weeks have I realised that this divinely-inspired film with the Holy Spirit behind, in, with and from it, does in some ways envisage a MORE hopeful circumstance than the New Testament. The whole point of the Paraclete version of the Holy Spirit was that things should NOT stagnate in the millennia after Jesus. Of course Jesus believed He was coming back soon (so there is a major question there), but he DID tell the Disciples (much to their pained discomfort) that it would be BETTER for them if He went back to His Father, because then and only then would the Paraclete be sent - to live IN each who said yes to it, and provided a suitable home - any time, any place. Here, those whom God chooses are not only baptised by John, but participate in and encourage the baptism of each other. There is unity and love among them. And on the whole this group (of clowns!!!) are good listeners to Jesus, deeply committed to Him and loving Him. They try hard understand and succeed in following. Furthermore, although somebody still does kill Jesus (He is crucified in the movie), the Disciples are only briefly filled with despair and disorientation. Unlike their real-life Biblical counterparts, they are able to take Jesus back into the world (even a rough, tough, secular world like New York) without facing fear or ridicule. They bring Jesus to the people, first singing "Long Live God" (nothing about death there), and then "Prepare ye the way of the Lord" (again - NOT "the dead Lord") and then finishing with "Day by Day", the prayer of St Richard of Chichester (England) in which we are to see Jesus more clearly, love Him more dearly and follow Him more nearly. This is the Resurrection the play and movie present, far from the suggestion that this work of art neglects the Resurrection, which it does not. The hope in this movie is that there is more kindness and more joy and more possibilities in New York in 1973 than in the Holy Land back then - it's bold and beautiful, and fully in line with the work that the Paraclete was sent to do...
@iluvafalloutboy It's the Spirit working, I think. As in the HOLY Spirit. I might take years for its effect to sink in, but welcome it in. Wonderful, wonderful things are on their way for you!!!
