    Tragic episode.
11 years of stress on him, his (ex) Wife, and children, just to eventually build a stunning home for someone else.
I heard that, on average, you spend around 20 years with your kids. The first 18 years plus another 2 years the rest of your life.
Be careful how you spend those first 18 years.
To think how he could have spent those years, stress-free, with his daughters, as they grew up.
You can't buy those lost years back, no matter how much the house sells for.

One of daughters reflects that her parents would have divorced anyway. As a father who appreciates the daily dedication required to maintain wellbeing in a family, I’ve got to say I don’t believe her. It sounds like something she needs to believe to not hate her dad.

This was sad to watch especially having gone through something similar during a simpler building project that was meant to take 18 months to complete and ended up taking 4 years. Luckily my marriage is still in tact and we eventually moved in but not without much strain and regret. The day partners start taking the concerns of their families seriously when venturing into such grand ego projects and being humble enough to ask for help, is the day they'll stop losing hard earned money unnecessarily. That said, I'm heart broken for the family as they did not get to live in their dream home. In the end, it looked stunning and exceeded their wildest dreams.

This is the developer trap here. the only reason this lightweight could play was that no real developers are interested in the area. the reason being there is not demand from rich international people or people looking for trophy properties in general in Devon. If this were a popular area he wouldn't have even been able to buy the original house let alone build a new one.
What they don't say is there are no kitchens or baths installed so the place can't even be rented for events or airbnb. He says he "owns" the place. He doesn't. The bank owns it he just calls the shots until he stops making payments.
