Hi Peter - what a fantastic pike, and in great condition when it was returned. In fifty years of pike fishing and capturing approaching 10, 000 pike, many of them in Lincolnshire, I've never had one this big!! As for the Shakespeare box, I use one myself. Something to sit on and it keeps my cameras dry. Nice work.
10,000 pike! Wow sounds like a Sky movie -"Pikemaggedon" lol. Falling from the skies over Lincolnshire devouring poodles and little old ladies :-) I am going to make as near perfect replica as I can as both pro artist and amateur taxidermist, which I will place on hear later. Am using the Drennan cup money this won to buy the materials. So I hope you will enjoy that, also! :-) Thanks .
Well done on your capture. It looks like quite a small water. Its surprising what's in some of these small fisheries. A mate and i have targeted a few small waters over the years which most pikers have ignored and have also done well. As the old adage says: Neglected waters can hold big fish.
Yes even quite small rivers can hold big ones, I have a pal who hooked a 30 lb in a little backwater that took a roach he was bringing in! Hell of a fight on light gear! :-)
Never too old to learn to fish or paint, I am introducing an 80 year old plus pal to fish this last week, film to follow shortly. Loved it. He caught his first Carp to 8 lb yesterday! :-) This big pike was early summer when the water was still fresh and clear. It certainly was a fish of a lifetime for me having had many lower doubles to 20 lb. I hope that you do succeed and wish you luck and the skill to do so.
Hi Peter, I Just watched your video... Well Done Matey.... An absolute fish of dreams.. I've spent the last 40+ years trying to catch one as big.. I take my hat off to you..
Thanks Stephen. Yes I hope to fish a few more years yet, but unless I hook it again reckon it will remain my crowning glory! Makes up for one or two monsters I have seen or lost over my years in the Broads or Great Ouse that attacked yacht fenders as they passed, grabbed medium pike I had on, even ate a lads hat blown in by the wind! lol
Absolutely fantastic fish with beautiful markings, congratulations and very well done Peter. As for negative comments, all pure jealousy and envy, ignore them. Have enjoyed many of your videos, especially being a born and bred 'Yellow Belly', especially some of your winter films, keep them coming please.
My thanks for the support and positive comments! :-) Just sometimes one wonders if it is worth bothering, but such as you kindly make it all worth it! Look forward to hearing from you again in the future.
@@faith6651 Again, well done for producing the videos Peter and please continue to keep them coming. I had to smile to see that your still using a Shakespeare Seat Box, reminds me of another angler from just up the road from where you live, Terry Bontoft from Winterton who was still using his Shakespeare up to a couple of years ago, sometimes wish that I'd kept my old fibre glass seat box, plain and simple uncomplicated angling. Congratulation again with your marvellous catch of lifetime achievement.
Hello Philip, I have always used boxes half this size past years to keep mobile but as life changes, and waters, with so much gear I now brought this one for a mere fiver the other week AND a good trolley for six quid ! Will still use the smaller seats when off for river barbel etc. but for stillwaters. Talking of history I still have my original wicker basket seat box! Now those you don't see used these days? lol
@@faith6651 Sadly no longer have my wicker basket, can remember though giving it a good soaking at the start of every season to stiffen it back into shape. I still use a box but only when fishing the local canals, tend to use just a folding chair, one rod and rest, landing net, shoulder bag and bait bucket for the majority of my fishing, especially throughout the winter Month's when mainly fishing the Trent, incidentally there was plenty of Pike activity last week when I was fishing the Keadby Canal , might be worth a visit ?? Congratulations again on your fish of a lifetime, very well angled.
I have Barbel in mind next, one of my favourite fish, as someone has offered to introduce me to his local water. So it's funny you should mention lighter ways to carry gear. We will be roving so I will do so then. Thanks for the tip by the way. Never fished that water.
Thanks Neil, it indeed was, and I shall be doing my best to re produce it as a model using my taxidermy and art skills. Having to work from the brief filming as did not wish to take longer taking more shots. I have its length from the weighing sack so should be pretty close by that? :-) Who knows next time it comes out she should be over fourty and more so if with spawn?
@@faith6651 hi peter a irish pike angler looking in my word what a beauty we have some big pike over here but that takes some beating............... was that a vintage shakespear pike rod you where using it was up to the job whatever model it was great ................... great stuff tight lines
Well seen, yes an older glass camo rod that simply took my fancy and handled it perfectly. I have a small collection of older antique rods that I occasionally use just for fun, greenhearts, split cane, etc. just gives a fresh edge on a day, sometimes. Just sold my main collection via a specialist rod auctioneers and wish I had simply sold them on ebay. Got a pitence that way!
Seemed ages, but probably about 15 mins. When first hooked it felt like a 5 pounder and every few minutes felt stronger and stronger. You can imagine my shock when I actually first saw it lurking up from the deep in between big lunges?!
Well done catching "the lady of the lake", a fish of a lifetime for 99% of Pike anglers. Many never catch a 20, never mind a 39! I doubt Mick Brown has yet had a 39 though I might be wrong
Just a shorter version of the film as I had a few "nit picking" and abusive, insulting comments on the first as you may gather from my reaction and new description. :-( One always expects a few every year when creating so many films.
Oh, I had a few jealous and ignorant comments afterwards, not least "I was a doddery old git" by some immature moron. lol ! Unfortunately we have to share breathing the same air with these people and sometimes fishing the same water ? :-) Anyway, best of luck to you, and thanks.
So glad I caught it, probably never will again, but it made up for the few monsters I have hooked into in my life and not been so fortunate with and comes at the right time in my age! lol
1. Same fish had been caught at just over 37 lb the year before. 2. Scales were working just fine. Also - measurements all correspond. It really was a very big fish.
I am not aware of ever saying any such thing! I think you are mistaken but do show / tell me where? You have just sent me a second message saying "right here is where you say it" but not given the time mark on the film. I have looked at the shot you have shown and I certainly say no such thing there. Give me the exact time on the film timeline please?

Absolutely brilliant 😊😊😊😊
Glad you enjoyed it. May have tried since but am aware with success.
Beautiful fish Peter great job landing it keep the videos coming
Hello from Ireland. Incredible fish. Ive only been at it 2 years. What month was this. Congrats again. One day i hope to catch one this big.

Is this water stocked with fish for big pike to eat? Beautiful chunky fish. I've caught many fish of the length but not that girth.
There is a good mixed stock and yes many rudd.
How long was the fight?

Yes indeed and thankyou. Happened to be at right place at right time and fortune favoured me! Plus a bit of past knowledge to land it lol.
he says above he hasn't lol
I wondered which fishery this is please. Tight lines
A club water near Barton on Humber :-)
Great fish Peter - well done!
Must get back down there and see if it has gained a few pounds!? lol
@@faith6651 Is it a trout lake?
Another one this year? Super!!

Lovely fish
Thanks, have not fished down there a while but gather many have tried to catch her without success. Think I will go again soon! lol :-)
That pike looks like the devil himself, dark and a head that looks like it has won wars
fish of a lifetime..good angling!...
Yes indeed and unless I hook it again I will never beat it! Thanks :-)
Huge and amazing fish. Shame that bellend Circus 🤡 Fickling had to chase it after your capture.

Nice pike but deffitnely no where 40 pound get them scales checked out

Only 40 when Fickling catches em 😏
Ignore the jealousy Peter. That looks every bit of the weight you gave. A wonderful fish. Well done.
You said in an earlier comment on here that nobody else had caught it?
