PhD researcher Jasmine Somerville has been deploying CatchCam underwater camera to monitor marine life behaviour around Bycatch Reduction Lights. During these research trials, she used Pisces LED Lights developed by SafetyNet Technologies.
Both the Bycatch Reduction Lights and Underwater Camera CatchCam, also by SafetyNet Technologies, were attached to different parts of the trawl gear to act as bycatch repellents for Marine Life.
The underwater camera has allowed scientists to record some brilliant marine life behaviour underwater, including the one above. The underwater footage shows a skate inside a trawl net.
The underwater footage above was recorded from the Marine Biological Association's research vessel RV MBA Sepia.
